FA Battlemaps Foundry Module!

Hello everyone! For past month or so we've been hard at work on our new module that we believe will make browsing and importing our maps m

Our Foundry module makes use of all the standard Foundry features. So walls and lights are set up with ambient audio tuned to reflect the environment. As well as properly integrated Foreground layer and overhead tiles, so things from trees to the shadows themselves affect tokens in an immersive way.

------ Installation ------

Copy & Paste this Manifest link in Foundry's Module Manager to install the Module:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Forgotten-Adventures/FA_Battlemaps/main/module.json

If you need a step by step installation guide you can find it here: https://github.com/Forgotten-Adventures/FA_Battlemaps#installation

------ How to Use ------

To open the module interface click the "FA Battlemaps" button at the bottom of the Scenes panel. You can also open the interface in the module settings and disable this button if you wish.

Battlemaps in the module are fully integrated for use with Foundry VTT. Featuring extra capabilities using Monk's Active Tile Triggers and Tagger for truly dynamic scenes!

Features & Functions

Using a combination of the Active Tiles and Tagger, we can dynamically shape the encounter. Smaller map elements can be triggered by their nearby switches with a double click.

Lighting:

Each light source in our maps is setup individually. We felt it was more intuitive to double click on the light source itself. This will activate the foundry light and also associated tile which has some baked in lighting that enhances the effects.

Overlay Tiles Trigger Switches:

Similarly to Lights, you can find various triggers around the maps which you can double click to activate/deactivate small scale Overlay Tiles.

Maybe a plank of wood breaks underfoot, or the players can see what treasure lies within the chest.

Furthermore, some maps have our "Control Scroll" on the right hand side of the map. Similar to the Trigger Switches, these switches are for more dramatic changes to the map.

Maybe the encounter changes in a dramatic way, or you want to set up a variation of the map ahead of time to suit your needs. The text color changes, so it is easy for you to see what is inactive or active.

These switches are kept in the foreground, hidden from player view, and by default we have set everything to be double clicked by the GM, just to reduce the chance of any accidental triggering by yourself or the player.

Dependencies:

As mentioned above, we have couple of module dependencies which are required for things to work properly, you should have these modules installed and activated  alongside ours.

FA Battlemaps Foundry Module!

Comments

Now that Monks active tile triggers are compatible with foundry v13 will this be updated to work with v13 as well?

Jason Sourdiffe

you upload them via Art Library, and you use the JPG ones, and depending on the size of the file, you may need a roll20 subscription.

Richard Martin

kind of a dumb question, but how do you transfer these maps over to Roll20? are they even compatible with Roll20?

Casey Brassard

i am so sorry to ask a dumb question but i have memory issues from a disability, and took over a month off from foundry - The Illithinoch map i ADORE has cool creepy background ambient hum for me - please tell me this is part of the map, and not some other module i installed that i dont recall thats doing it? (I have like 5 modules that animate maps, graphics, or sound, or link to activities/triggers, and it is like multivariate calc at the moment) I cry mercy!

Matthew Screng Paluch

Monk's Active Tile Triggers are not compatible with v13 yet, so our module isnt either as it's the dependency.

Forgotten Adventures

Foundry integration module + tagger + monk active tiles up to date on the 13.344 version of Foundry and the trigger/scroll thing/interaction are not working at all, any clue bout how would be wrong ?

Mélinoé

it seems that the triggers are not compatible with v12 of foundry

matthias Braun

That sounds like something is wrong, just tried installing the module on a fresh foundry and latest version of FA Battlemaps module is definitely 1.0.26, it might be an issue with your hosting or something like that, you can reach out on our discord so you can provide som screenshots and more info and we might be help to help you troubleshoot what's going on

Forgotten Adventures

I've installed the module, linked to Patreon, and have updated the module. The "up to date" version of the module is 1.0.19, however when I try to download a map it says it requires version 1.0.22 or higher. Also, when downloading a free map, it downloads the files, but nothing appears. I have to manually go find the files (background, tiles, etc) and have to manually attach them to the scene.

The Artist H

The above response was about previous iteration of the module (no longer available), you can install and use current module in Forge normally.

Forgotten Adventures

Is there an update regarding Forge support? I just signed up to the higher tier but I use Forge for my games. If I can’t install the Foundry maps in Forge I’m going to have to cancel.

Steve Moss

I look forward to it! ^^

Skellitor301

Should be possible, we will look into implementing it in one of the future updates! ^_^

FA Battlemaps

Could an option be available in the settings to set where the map download assets will be downloaded to?

Skellitor301

No, I'm still using V9 because there are too many mods that V10 doesn't support at the moment. the Ruined Temple. Failed to display properly after downloading.... in current conditions

huning

Can you be a bit more specific? What's not working? Did you update Foundry to v10 ? If so, please update our module to v1.0.6 and try again. Which fixes v10 compatibility, however there are still couple of things that broke with the new foundry version that we are fixing currently.

FA Battlemaps

Why the map will not work properly after I updated 1.0.5, the Ruined Temple.

huning

No worries! That works perfect now. Thanks!!

Michael Russo

Sorry about that, our github account got flagged for unknown reason so the repository was automatically switched to private. Should be solved now.

FA Battlemaps

I tried uploading the json into the install modules on my molten foundry VTT and it's saying https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Forgotten-Adventures/FA_Battlemaps/main/module.json is not providing a valid manifest.

Michael Russo

I have successfully gotten to the part where I hit download on a scene and it says "complete" but there the map is nowhere to be found.

John Forrest

Thanks for the tip! Any plans to do a manifest? TBH I'm not sure I can figure out the FTP file management. Lost a few hours trying.

Michael Russo

Good to know. Is there any need to have the option to change grid size now then? Perhaps it will be needed in the future.

Ben

everything is setup for the 200 ppi / grid size, so yeah if you change that it's gonna break things.

FA Battlemaps

For my first test, I'm using a hex grid on the Winter Cave map and it looks great at Grid Size (Pixels) 200, but once I change it to 120, the overlays don't match up anymore. Using FA Battlemaps v1.02

Ben

Michael Russo

+1 for forge support. Would make updating easier and encourage patrons to stay instead of occasionally paying and downloading the backlog.

Jonah Cawston

make sure you have the dependencies installed and activated

FA Battlemaps

Why does clicking on the light source and trap icon not work? I've tried every picture, but none of the switches seem to work, okay? Is there any place I haven't set up?

huning

Moulinette Integration would be awesome <3

Felix Fischer

An additional patreon to support and a higher tier in this patreon does not really sound like a great deal for me personally

Sebastian Will

Yes!

_Costa

This! It saves users a bunch of time and headache downloading/storing/uploading/managing modules, can be securely restricted to patrons, saves bandwidth cost for creators and storage space on local drives or hosting services for users, and is an all around cheap and easy value add for everyone. Tons of creators creating similar content to FA at large scale (Tom Cartons, The MAD Cartographer, Baileywiki, etc) have found it to be a good option, and in some cases they've even used it to drive additional revenue by making it available at a premium tier. Just an all-around great solution for foundry.

Dor Edras

Love the first few maps out and the foundry version of them looks amazing, especially how all the triggers and control scroll is set up! Would be awesome if you could use Moulinette for distribution as that makes it stupidly quick and easy to use the maps

Erlend Aakre

Thank you for the response! Here's hoping you can work with Forge, especially since one's account can be connected to Patreon.

Jason Kramer

Not at the moment, we've not decided how we are going to approach Forge yet. Will keep you updated once we have more info.

FA Battlemaps

Question: Will this module be available in the Bazaar on Forge?

Jason Kramer

Absolutely love the use of the additional modules, and the "Control Scroll"! This is definitely the direction I had hoped you would go in - Making creative use of the amazing features out there combined with amazing artwork and map design.
