Rachel - Interactive Story - scene 18

Continued from scene 17

Rachel pulls over reluctantly, her foot easing off the gas. She takes out a pistol and slips it between her legs with one hand resting casually on top of it. She cracks the window just enough to talk, keeping her face neutral.

The female officer strides up to the side window. She's tall and fit, with dark hair twisted tightly into a bun. Her uniform is crisp but showing signs of a long night—dirt smudged along the sleeves, sweat beading on her forehead despite the cool air. Her name tag reads Lawson.

Behind her, the male officer lingers at the back bumper, flashlight scanning the Jeep’s exterior, inspecting every corner. His bulky frame fills the space, shoulders hunched as he leans in, peering through the windows.

Rachel keeps her voice light, sliding into a smooth American accent. "Good evening, Officer. I hope everything’s okay. I’m sure you’re incredibly busy tonight with all this news about the outbreak."

Lawson's lips remain pressed into a thin line, her eyes fixed on Rachel. "I need you to step out of the vehicle."

Rachel chuckled nervously. "What’s wrong? Why do I need to get out? We’re just heading out of the city, you know, with all this outbreak stuff. Just trying to stay safe."

She made her voice sounded young and harmless, like a typical scared civilian. But Lawson’s expression remained neutral. She reaches for the handle, jiggling it, but the door stays locked.

"Step out of the vehicle. Now," she says, her voice flat.

Rachel’s grip tightens on the pistol between her legs. Behind her, the male officer approaches, the beam of his flashlight cutting through the dark as it sweeps over the back window.

Bailey sits beside Rachel, tense, her hands resting tightly in her lap. Her leg bounces nervously, tapping against the floorboard.
