Rachel increases her pace, keeping Scott within her line of sight as he hobbles towards the transport truck. One of the soldiers shouts through a bullhorn, "We're moving out in one minute! Anyone needing evacuation, get to the truck now!"

Scott tries to run, but his steps are uneven and favor his uninjured side. Rachel matches his pace and is ready to provide cover if needed. The woman's terrified screams echo from across the street as she flees the shambling, infected man giving chase. Rachel's instincts scream at her to intervene, but she can't abandon Scott. Not with the stakes so high.

As they near the intersection, a powerful sense of dread washes over Rachel. From the corner house, a zombie lurches into view, its ragged clothing and ashen skin leaving no doubt as to its condition. The National Guard soldiers snap to attention, weapons raised but pointed away from the new threat as they scan the perimeter.

Scott presses on, his desperation to reach the truck evident. But the zombie's milky eyes zero in on him, and it turns with an unsettling quickness, blocking his path. Scott falters, his steps stuttering as he tries to veer around the undead monstrosity.

Rachel doesn't hesitate. With a practiced motion, she raises her Glock and fires a single, precise shot. The bullet slams into the zombie's skull, dropping it instantly to the pavement in a crumpled heap.

For a split second, there's only eerie silence. Then, the soldiers whirl towards her, their rifles leveled with lethal intent. "Drop your weapon! Get down on the ground now!" one shouts, barking the command.

Rachel's heart pounds as she fights the urge to react. She's less than 30 feet from the FEMA transport with at least three soldiers pointing carbines at her.
