Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven Sneak Peek

I found it extremely insightful to see the poll responses on my last sneak peek, so I thought I would do it again. In this next small scene, you are in a pet shop with Madison. An exchange occurs, and you are given a choice to respond.

As you pass by the grooming station, Madison stops, her gaze locked onto a framed photo on the wall. It's a shot of a purebred dog, its coat glossy and well cared for. "My mother used to buy dogs from breeders," she confesses. "She'd pamper them like they were some accessory, like a handbag or a piece of jewelry. It just…it never sat right with me."

Her voice grows tight, and you can see the anger simmering beneath her calm exterior. She picks up a gold dog collar, examining it with a critical eye before tossing it back onto the shelf with a huff. "It's terrible, you know? Buying a living, breathing creature like it's just another commodity. Like it doesn't have feelings or needs."

As you approach the checkout counter, Madison's steps falter. Hanging from a corkboard are photos of graduating puppies from a training school, their bright eyes and wagging tails a stark contrast to the empty store. Madison's hand flies to her mouth, her eyes glistening as she takes in the sight.

"These poor puppies," she whispers, her voice barely audible. "I don't mean to…seeing this…" She trails off, her hand gripping your arm tightly. For a moment, you stand there, the silence of the store pressing in on you, as Madison fights back tears at the sight of what once was, and what could have been.
