Zombie Exodus: Side Stories, Brody & Madison 8

continued from scene 7

Brody and Madison sprint towards the pool house. They swing open the door and quickly step inside, finding themselves in a sanctuary of sorts. The interior of the pool house is cool and dimly lit, with a spacious open area filled with comfortable lounge chairs and a small kitchenette.

"I've never seen this place," Brody said, marveling at the furniture and décor.

"Be quiet!" said in a hushed shout

Their rapid breathing fills the air as they catch their breath. The smell of chlorine lingers in the air, mixing with the earthy scent of the surrounding vegetation.

They take a moment to scan the pool house, their eyes adjusting to the subdued light. They notice a set of shelves filled with pool accessories and towels neatly folded, along with a few pool cleaning supplies tucked away in a corner.

Suddenly, the silence is shattered by the sound of the main house's door crashing open. The pool area comes alive with the presence of the zombies, their low growls and relentless search sending a shiver down Brody and Madison's spines.

A shadow passes in front of the pool house door, causing Brody and Madison to freeze and take cover in the shadows. Through the glass, they see the unmistakable figure of a zombie as it peers inside, its milky eyes scanning the room. Their hearts race, and they hold their breath, hoping the zombie won't spot them.

As the zombie eventually moves away from the front door, Brody, still crouched, points towards a backdoor partially obstructed by a pile of boxes. He then motions to a hedge trimmer, with its long serrated blade, that leans against the side wall of the pool house. His eyes meet Madison's, silently conveying his plan.

Madison considers the options, weighing the risks and potential rewards. She opens a small refrigerator in the corner of the pool house and finds it still has power. Inside, she discovers a stash of cold drinks, including beer, sodas, and various food items like cold cuts, jars of pickled vegetables, and blocks of cheese.

"We can move these boxes and go out the back," Brody says, crawling towards the back of the pool house.

"Brody, stop. Let's think this through," she says, her eyes searching his face. "Moving the boxes will create noise and might draw even more infected. We have food, shelter, and relative safety here. We can wait and gather our strength."

Brody clenches his fists, torn between the urge to fight and the rationality in Madison's words. He glances at the hedge trimmer, its buzzing potential a tempting call to action.

Madison shook her head in frustration. "Are you serious? You think you can kill all three with that thing before even one of them bites you?"

"I don't think sitting here and doing nothing is a good idea. Those three could break in here anyway, and we would be sitting ducks. We should do something before that happens."
