Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven content poll
Added 2022-03-12 16:56:00 +0000 UTCOne thing I do not do in my games is assume how the MC is feeling. It drives me crazy when I read another choice game and the author tells me how my character is feeling. It's right in Zombie Exodus and Safe Haven, I try very hard not to assume anything about the MC without asking you, the reader.
Along those lines, there are choices that I like to call "feelers". It's not the best word, but it's what I call it. A feeler is a fake choice that asks the player how their character feels about a specific situation. I usually use it as an opportunity to tweak their stats or add extra content based on that feeling. It's also a good opportunity for the player to roleplay how their MC feels about something.
For example, if a new survivor meets you on the road, you strike up a conversation, and they abruptly run off with no explanation, I may ask how your character feels about that. You could be angry that they left without notice, sad for the loss of company, happy this annoying person is gone, or completely indifferent.
In this poll, I'm wondering how you feel about feelers.

I absolutely agree with being spoonfed how I'm supposed to feel when reading. No 2 people are the same and we probably have different motives for choosing a certain option. I may choose to kill Jude at the pharmacy, not necessarily because I am a sociopath who enjoys killing, so I wouldn't want the narrative to "assume" that's why I took his life and you do a great job of avoiding that pitfall. The options presented are varied with reasoning for choosing an option and it makes a world of difference in not being told how to feel. I do like how the narrative adapts to how we choose certain options regarding how we feel about a situation, and not just a change in stats. Even just subtle changes like how we interact with characters, a sympathetic smile or comforting hand, makes a huge difference in immersion and bonding with NPCs, so I would definitely like to see that going forward, but not to the extent of being asked how we feel about every little choice.
