Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven scenario poll

At this stage of the game, between the core group (Jaime, Rachel, Brody, etc.) and the optional group members (Dante, Bailey, Woody), there could be up to 25 NPCs in the group. I've introduced scripted deaths in Part 2 and Part 3, but have introduced more characters that either automatically or optionally join the group. In this poll, I would like to know your thoughts on the size of the group.

If there’s gonna be that many characters then some of them are going to need to die

I am all for new characters to recruit and get to know, however, I realize this probably has more to do with my playstyle. I am roleplaying a character that believes in strength in numbers and wants a large group for the different skill sets and a large fighting force. No one cares about my character and how I choose to roleplay. I realize that but I point this out to make two points concerning this topic: 1) everyone has their own playstyle, and they are all valid, and 2) practically speaking our group needs numbers if ever there were a confrontation with a larger group (Silverthorne or the New Army) to stand a chance. To further explain my first point, everyone has their own RP, and when it comes to providing depth and content for each style of RP there needs to be a large pool of diverse characters to accentuate a certain style of play. I am not necessarily saying this large pool is not already provided, but it can always be bigger and a diverse set of skills from a range of personalities that fit the best is needed to provide depth. Of course, as many have already pointed out, this also provides replayability. For my second point, I would like to point out the scope of this story and how it is growing. The first game starts out with you being along (possibly with a nephew) in a very small setting meeting few people. This obviously grows very quickly to the point where we are now with such a large group with out character being very influential within the group. However, the outside world has grown so much as well, as you all know, with other factions and people. Some of these factions are very large, and I feel as this story goes along the factions, world, and number of threats will only increase in size. At least, that's what makes the most sense. With this train of thought, comes the next thought of the size of our group and whether or not it will increase in size or not. It makes the most sense that it would, potentially, however, there is the problem of bloat and creep. I would like to offer a potential solution to this problem: as our group grows in size, don't make every member of the group "knowable". I think the best solution for this problem as a whole, with a larger perspective in mind, would be implement a system like Choice of Rebels has with a number of people in the group without having you, the player, know every single one and their stories. This way, it keeps a rather large group of core members (Rachel, Jaime, etc.) as well as "knowable" optional characters (Dante, Bailey, etc.) while still growing the world and our groups power, while keeping it realistic. These are my thoughts on this problem and the best solution I have come up with but please let me know what you all think. Jim, this may or may not be the direction you want to take this story, and of course at the end of the day it is all your decision.
