Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven Poll

Thinking ahead to Part 4, I'm considering the style of play that interests players, I have several styles of chapters that I could develop. I have found most readers enjoy a mix of styles.

Linear - the mission/chapter does not branch but you always see the same choices in each playthrough. Your choices affect branching portions of the story later on. Linear chapters take less time to write and playtest but also provide less choice.

Open ended - This chapter provides a long list of activities, consisting of missions, things to do in camp, performing hobbies, etc. You can choose any activity of any order, and the order sometimes affects the impact. These chapters take the longest to write and require the most testing.

Hubs - this is a new style of chapter that will come up more in Part 4. These will occur when you visit the haven of another group of survivors. There will be a short list of activities or places to visit. For example, you can visit the Silverthornes camp and talk to survivors, visit various tents and trailers set up for commerce, or take part in mini games like arena fighting or gambling. These take more effort to write than linear chapters but not as much as open-ended chapters.

This-or-that - This is another type of chapter I would like to do in Part 4. in this chapter, you choose from two major paths that play out as separate missions. You can only access one passed in a single play through. This is a style of chapter I did in the original ZE. You they remember in Part 3 where you could go to the farm to rescue Carl or stay back at the Cathedral on watch duty. I like these styles of chapters because they do not force players to take either path. However it is like writing to chapters for the price of one.

I will likely use all four of these chapter styles in Part 4, but I am interested in which of the four is your favorite?

I would say that a combination of hub and this or that is my favorite as far as giving a "choose your own adventure" type feel with hub potentially affecting smaller attributes, inventory and relationship aspects of the character with this or that providing those story molding choices. Maybe not quite so totally immersive as true open end but still very much so while still providing continuity and a little be easier time for me to vary playthroughs to get substantive differences in my experience without having to chart every single side choice so carefully

Love the game regardless
