Agreed. Seeing how the characters lived their lives beforehand gives depth and realism to them, making it easier to view them not just as roles to fill, but as fellow survivors. Although, if Jim writes from the MCs point of view, it may conflict with the characters we have built for ourselves. But meh, who cares if it conflicts!
