Question on bonus points

One of the most requested additions for ZE: Safe Haven is to add one more option to purchase 25 skill points. I have always felt slimy doing it, but some people state they rather spend $1 to save time and try out the character they want. How do you feel about it?

Comments

I would happily pay for an upgrade for 20 or 30 more percentage points to spend on the base stats, as well as skill points, but that's just me. I like to do everything, which is why I play the games over and over again to try to experience as many stories as possible.

Annie

You should at least double that asking price honestly. It helps support your work on this and future projects. Especially if you're having characters roll forward into other future expansions off of the main ZESH story line. Of course in further games you might end up modifying/adjusting the character skill set options.

This means I will approach CoG about it. The programming is actually more on their end. I think they will approve it, but I can't guarantee it. I am going to ask for +25 more skill points for $1 and +20 Attribute points for $1. Maybe more or less attribute points as I figure out balance.

Jim Dattilo

Great ideas, as always.

Jim Dattilo

With the vote projection pretty much assured at this point, will the extra point come with part 2-2 or part 3?

TheDrake

I still vote for attribute points more than skills as you already have a potential +50 skill points. It could be somewhere from +15 to +25 attribute points, max you could assign to one stat would be 15. Another +25 skill points in addition to the earlier potential +50 and earned points from survival xp seems a bit much. Either that or the skill points could already be assigned to specific skills relevant to survivor training. Survival/Athletics/Crafting/HtH or Melee weapon/Guns and call it the hardened survivor package. But hey I'll default to whatever Jim wants to do as I like his work and he's the one that has to manage the game balance.

Robert C. Kirby

25 seems like a decent amount and I'd be willing to pay another 2 or 3 dollars.

Yes and no, some plot lines would require skill checks and choices through the course of play. The example that comes to mind for me is the play through with the max martial artist in part one where you can beat on the zombie outside your home as much as you want until you wear yourself out. In the end you win but if there were two of them the PC would have been history. Its kind of why I was thinking attribute points more than skill points, as we already have a potential 50 bonus skill points available.

Robert C. Kirby

I think that if people want to spend their money on an extra 25 points then I see no reason why you shouldn’t let them, it’s more money for you to keeping games, but only if the extra points don’t make the game to easy/make it easy to get the achievements, a little easier is understandable but not to easy, if that makes sense?

Henry Skelly

The balance would be thrown out, but isn't that kind of the point of a more skill points mode?

Ethan David Underhill

I think that with you allowing skill purchase before in addition to having your prior product bonus, tripling down might be a bit much. However I like the idea of a total attribute bonus where you could assign it across a minimum of 2 attributes and a maximum of all attributes. ie, 30pts spit into a max of 15 to any one attribute with the rest to assign as you like. Either that or you could have a specific 'skill' boost for post apocalyptic hardening. ie split up however many points you think is fair for the purchase between unarmed combat, guns, melee weapons, construction, survival, etc. The other option would be to allow the purchase of both but it depends on how much you want to allow within game balance limitations.

Robert C. Kirby

The 50 extra skill points is already easy mode but if someone wants 100 more it doesn't bother me to have it as an option.

Nefla Ivanova

I agree, it is better to have the option and everybody wins, gym makes more money and people who want to build the ultimate character Getty ability to do that. I don’t see a downside note to offer that ability.

Tigran Pirumyan

Adding more attribute points is harder due to balance issues, but it could be a better option.

Jim Dattilo

I don't mind at all that there are in-app purchases. As stated earlier, it's personal choice whether to buy them. I would buy the extra skill points but in all honesty, I would rather purchase more attribute points. There isn't much point in upping your long range shooting skills if your perception isn't up to much. You say you feel icky to add these options, but that's exactly what they are - options. I wouldn't feel too guilty in adding any more IAPs, they are there to enhance gameplay, and it's not unwinnable without them.

Sarah Winters

I agree. I pay for things in apps and games to save time or for a "win" mode. But as a developer, I feel icky to add those options. I value other peoples' money more than my income.

Jim Dattilo

I think it's up to people whether they spend money on points. Fair enough an option is "objecting" microtransactions but the simple answer to that is don't buy it. If I want to spend my money on more skill points, it's nothing to do with those who don't want to.
