Dear Flock,
I have another song for your ears.
The Georgia Train + Mishkin Fitzgerald collaboration continues, and here is our next single, Ask.
Ask is a song about conflict and resentment, a dark and twisted rock ballad with a few contemporary flairs.
It’s a huge mix of image and sound.
I hope you enjoy.
For me personally, “Ask” is reminiscent to Hounds of Love by Kate Bush.
I adore the synth layers on that record so when I was building this one I tried to give it a similar feel.
The drum and guitar arrangement was done completely by Chris Stagg and it’s one of my favourite parts of the whole EP.
Melodically I think Georgia’s hook “did I ask for this?” just gets you sucks you in until the chorus can deliver.
I also snuck a weird chord or two in there to just to take it away from being too normal.
I’m so pleased with the finished result, it sounds huge!
LYRICS:
So I asked for this did I
Fell down to the ground
Held the gun to you, did I
Picked it to the bone
I was heavy in the womb
Like a stone I tied you to
And you told me til I knew
So I asked for this, did I?
And my knees are raw
Let you bury your head, did I?
You, him and the law
I was weightless underground
Only there on ultrasound
Now I draw a decent crowd
Weigh me for my sins
Strip me of the things
I don’t need your blood
I don’t need your skins
Fall forever short
Tell me it’s my fault
I don’t wan’t your grit
I don’t want your salt
So I asked for this, did I?
