Dearest Demons,
This song was formed by Jonny and I last year. I had the chorus kicking around my head for several weeks before I brought it to him and these beautiful words came out.
It's about how loneliness can turn into obsession and how easily as humans we can misunderstand each other.
We've all probably experienced unwanted closeness at times in life and this song is about stepping back and setting your boundaries.
NOT YOUR LIGHT
I made a trap of flowers
You brought a butterfly net to a meteor shower
And through the flames of a terrible fire
A blind boy walks a wire
We lay awake for hours
In the ruins of ancient towers
And, yes, here comes the night
But, darling, I’m not your light
I’m not you’re your light
Watch in vain for stars to collide
I’m not your light
I’m just the lonely soul by your side
I watched you push away the dawn
Into the arms of a tattooed psalm
Feel your heartbeat at your fingertips
Farewells at the edge of your lips
In a palace of rubble and rust
We can dance ourselves into the dust
As you set out to raise the dead
Haunted hymns spill from your head
I’m not your light
We're children in a street fight
I’m not your light
But we're keeping each other alive
In every secret drinker
The spirit surely will splinter
Here the libertine’s surprise
Is to be burned in the blaze of life
Kids of a vampire state
Leaving early to arrive too late
Sky blushes defiant and bright
But, lover, I’m not your light
I’m not your light
‘It's alright, I'll make do’ you replied
I’m not your light
I’m just the only one here tonight
The song is still a little rough round the edges and unmastered but I wanted you to hear it first. Hope you enjoy or it's relatable in some way.
Let me know your thoughts.
I'll be releasing the rest of the rewards tomorrow.
Love & Feathers,
Mishkin
