Dearest Patrons,
If I told you this song didn't terrify me as a young child I would be lying. If you didn't already know this is the song from the 1950s Disney film, Dumbo. The animation itself is downright disturbing, and the song itself not much cheerier. However, now as an adult, and now a lover of all things twisted, I have reclaimed it and faced my fears to bring you this rather excellent cover (if I am allowed to say so myself!)
It is possibly the most fun I have ever had in the studio - doing the sinister and silly voices, the bold and bolshy brass and the sheer insane arrangement of it all made this a true joy to work on.
It didn't come without it's challenges though, in fact the whole thing took over a year to complete, having to record parts here and there when I had time and could borrow/pay the musicians involved.
The arrangement was done by one of my most talented students Jacy De Sousa (who played all the woodwind too), and the rest of the brass was done by Sian Buss (brass band leader) and Sachin (another student of mine). It was completed by my ever wonderful band Anna, Garry and Hana on the percussion, bass/vocals and strings. I think it's incredible! I hope you agree.
See you in March!
Thank you for funding this excellent project, next month I hope to have the full Chemical Perils EP ready for your ears... and after that it's material from HEX that's up next. Oh yes.
