Ropes to Ribbons

Dearest patrons,

It's high time I blogged. 2021 is coming to an end and although it's been a faster and more productive year it's certainly not been easy. I know some of you have gone through huge life changes and upheaval and for most of us the future is looking... strange.

Right now I'm sitting with Oli Spleen on a studio session adding gongs to his new single, "Refugee", which will out in January.

I'm looking around at the music studio and wondering how much I can get done in this short Christmas/New Year break before 2022 launches itself. I'm feeling like I've got a challenge ahead. There is a solo record to finish; a Birdeatsbaby record to get underway, but also working on several other people's albums which all need to be finished... by January 1st.

So much to do. Anyone else feeling the end of year pressure? I know I am. Bring it.

I love being a full time musician, but sometimes I do feel my time is so stretched that my little creative-battery gets drained very quickly and I never enough energy at the end of the week to do Birdeatsbaby stuff. I am sorry that this album is such a slow drip at the moment, I can only promise you that it will be absolutely worth the wait. I'm hoping to lay down the first mixes of the following songs over the break, ready for you to hear in the early stages of 2022. These songs are the closest to being finished: Ribbons, I Lay Under The Weight Of It All, HEX and VV

The songs are huge. And complex. And very carefully put together, like a 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle and I don't know what the picture on the box is. Right now I feel the edges have been placed, we have drum tracks and some pretty rocking demos, but I still feel far away from it. I want to take these unfinished songs into completion, and I feel like they've been clattering around my head since 2019.

I know I'm the only person putting pressure on myself. I remember I felt like this during the recording/production process of "The World Conspires", and that was far more stressful for various reasons. HEX is a pure joy to work on, I just need to allow myself a bit more time.

Anyway, sorry for my waffling. I do like to share everything with you guys, it kind of makes me feel like I'm progressing, even if it's just the thoughts going on in my head. It's better to write them all out.

Right now, this very evening all I can offer you is a behind-the-scenes photo from Ribbons (HEX song). I shall not explain the concept yet... that remains a secret for a little longer.

But, what am I going to offer for later this month is a WEBCAST.

I think everyone said yes to a livestream, so now we really just need to set a date.

How does the 23rd suit you all? About 8/9pm UK time?

Let me know your thoughts. I can't wait to tell you all about the new things that are coming.

See you soon wonderful humans.

Love & Feathers,

Mishkin xx
