IOGWYM - A Duet.

To my favourite people of the internet!!!

I am over-the-moon to release this. 

An official song from my new band MISHKIN FITZGERALD & THE CHEMICAL PERILS.

My collaborator (and now good friend) Jonny Parlett features on vocal to complete this charming and somewhat sad country/folk song, "I Only Get What You Give Me".

It's been a labour of love, with all the musicians involved passing wav files across emails and messages. Not being able to meet up really sucks but I'm so thankful that we have our Nest Studios or I don't know how I would have survived 2020!

This song is a total tear-jerker. I don't know where it came from but it bubbled up one day after a long period of depression. After the clouds cleared I had this very strong pentatonic structure in my head with the opening lines whirring around my head. Jonny came on board to take the lyrics to the next level and we finished the arrangement together last year. 

Naturally it had to be a duet between two contrasting voices, and it took on it's own 'country-folk' sound once I took it away from the piano. I'm trying to step away from my comfort zone with each new song, to challenge myself and also escape the repeated same patterns that can easily form with years of song-writing.

This one turned out very well and was very much a team-effort. I always my best songs come out when I involve other creative people. I am at my best when part a group, guess that's why I always wanted to be in a band ;)
