BETTER MAN - The Official Music Video

Hey Patrons,

We have a very very tasty "thing" for you guys this month.

It's the music video for Better Man, the single from our upcoming EP. I know you've all heard the track, but this is the music video.

We used a Peaky Blinders inspired theme for the shoot, and some amazing actors (including one of our Patrons Mark Griffin who flew over from Amsterdam to do this! Thanks Mark).

It was directed by Richard Anthony Dunford who also did our videos My Arms Will Open Wide, Mary and Baby Steps.

The official single will be mixed by Paul Reeve, who is the guys who worked on Muse's early records... we are SO excited to be working with him. The mix will be in my inbox very very soon, I'm sure it will be amazing.

Anyway, I thought I'd share a little bit about the concept of the video and as usual, I'd LOVE your thoughts.

Here goes...

Better Man is a feminist anthem about the roles that women play in a world where they are sometimes forced to adopt more than a traditionally feminine gender role to achieve equality.

A woman is constantly under pressure from society to be ‘feminine, but also strong’, ‘assertive, but not a bitch’, ‘sexual, but not a slut’. The media is constantly telling us to ‘love your body’, but the traditionally feminine images it portrays reflect an unattainable ideal and associated advertising is expressly designed to make us feel inadequate as people.

It seems that women often have to balance many different personas and responsibilities in order to succeed, sometimes to their own detriment. This song originates from various experiences in which myself and Hana (and a bunch of other female musicians I know) have had to overcome obstacles and fight to be heard, or to stand up against the misogyny and prejudice that most women experience at some point during their lifetime.

Although the song comes from our personal experiences as women, it speaks to everyone. We all (be we male, female or indeterminate) experience discrimination and exclusion. This song is not meant to be a dig at men, but a strike at the patriarchal system which discriminates against all but a select few and marginalises the rest of us where it can. This song is a call for change and empowerment ...it's also a bit of fun, as with all our music videos there is a tongue-in-cheek element, and it's not meant to be taken too seriously.

I hope you enjoy the video - we had a lot of fun making it, especially the fight scenes! 😂

As always, THANK YOU for helping us create this.

Amazing - the produced version of the song is really strong and the video fits perfectly :D

My wife asked if societal commentary had disappeared from music. I know it hasn't.
