Wither Episode 1 - Who Gets In?

This is the side-project I've been working on between Rogue and Star Jumper. Episode 1 is up. Ep2 has been submitted and will be up soon.

I wanted to wait until Star Jumper finished before starting to push this one out. But Vella is running a writing contest this month, so it's going up a little early. Part of the rules for the contest is that it has to be Vella-exclusive during the contest period. This isn't a big deal because the first ten episodes are free to read there, which is probably all I'll be able to post during the contest period anyway. Once the contest is over, I'll post the chapters here for members as well.

Wither is my first original content story. Urban Fantasy Superhero Romance, inspired by Rogue and my love for Fantasy and Urban Fantasy. Throughout Wither, I try to balance fantasy and romance equally. For Fantasy readers, its an Urban Fantasy/Superhero story with Weak to Strong and Portal Fantasy elements. For Romance readers looking for specific tropes, this a light Academic Rivals to Lovers story with a bit of Grumpy/Sunshine. Vella has a 5k word limit per chapter, so the episodes are a bit shorter than what I write for Rogue and come out a bit shorter than Star Jumper chapters which are around 5-6k words. For International Readers, I believe Vella is a US-only service, so if you're outside the USA, you might not be able to access it and will have to wait till next month when the story goes up here.

Why Vella? 

I intend to publish Wither on Amazon eventually. But putting the story episodically on Vella protects the story from piracy. If anyone tries to publish it as theirs, I have a basis for the argument of having published it first. Also, Vella is running a contest right now, so it'll be entered in that. Lastly, Vella's exclusivity rules only prohibit the story from being posted for free, outside of the contest period. So once the contest is over, I can put Wither here for subscribers.
