It's a sad day for QFS...

Hey everyone. Today comes with alot of emotion.

So today I spoke with a copyright lawyer regarding my content. We went over the video style, and how the videos were made. I was dumbfounded to find out nearly 95% of my videos were not fair use friendly. As it happens, I pulled alot of media (images, music, videos) off of Google that were copyrighted, and this is in no way kosher or allowed, especially without author permission.

Back when I was making these videos in college, I was doing it as a little side hobby, not really worried about anything like copyright. My videos were barely getting 300 views. I never thought QFS would grow into what it is today. I did not receive any copyright strikes, however, since my work was not fair use, even just one copyright complaint would be detrimental to my channel.

As of today, I removed all content from my channel that was not in line with copyright and fair use.

This DOES NOT mean Questions for Science is ending. However, I have to start from scratch. I did it wrong, and this is a consequence of not following the rules. I understand that.

Now is a time that I need your support more than ever. If not monetarily, then in the very least, support/watch my videos when they come out. I'm sorry I let you down, and that I wasn't more careful. This is my fault.

As bitter sweet as this may be, it's a new beginning for Questions for Science. New videos, new styles of shooting.  I'm still going to continue QFpS, and will be adding an additional series as well.

Thank you all for your past, present and future support.

Sincerely,

Adam

Thank you Marc. When I discussed this with the lawyer, he had a very "this isn't following the rules, nor is this good" tone. It was very much a slippery slope. I now see how the system is absolutely broken, but ignorance isn't a valid defense. If you recall the YTer a couple years ago, Ray William Johnson, he was taken to court for this very thing and lost. I'd rather delete a small video library and rebuild it slowly than lose QFS for good. Thank you again

What's On

The fact that you had to go to a lawyer to figure the fair use out shows how broken the copyright system is. Ask any internationally publishing science researcher about copyright and patent issues, and you’ll likely get an earful. So while you’re beating yourself up, please remeber that the system itself is inscrutable at best, and maybe go a little lighter on yourself. Your style was really developing nicely, I can’t wait to see where you head with your new videos! Hang in there!

I'm not allowed to distribute them. I do have them on a hard rive, but again, no distribution

What's On

I would wanna see some sort of permanent archive of the videos, though I completely understand your position.

It’s certainly sad to see them go but it might be better for the future of this channel. I do hope to see them back if you can sort out any copyright issues or replace those media with free equivalents, even if one video every few weeks. I’m looking forward to the next video. :-)

That's alright! We are here to support you every way shape or form! Dont be sorry! Just glad you caught it sooner than later. I will continue to watch every video you post sharing the videos you post and everything. Just take a breath relax and I can't wait to see what the next video will be like!

Most of your videos are absolute gems it's sad to see them removed

I look forward to the new content and as they say time to leave the past in the past and move forward :).
