Preview of the April release, and an important explanation about it.

Hello everyone.

This month's preview post is a little different. In addition to showing the models as usual, this time I have to advance the explanation of the set that I usually give in the launch post, because as you will see, the idea that I originally proposed has undergone some changes, and I want to be clear and honest about it. .

The theme proposed and voted for the month of April was Angels and Demons. The first intention with this was to move away from the classic medieval fantasy, as we already did with Samurais and Ronin. Then, in the general ideas that I give about each proposed option, I commented that I had in mind to take it towards an ambivalent space, since the demons usually appear in the sword and sorcery RPG, but are also present in products like Doom. And using interchangeable parts seemed to me possible to make creatures that fit everything. And that was the first of a few mistakes I've made this month.

The second was to start the work by the angels. By itself, this wouldn't have been a problem, but I didn't realize that by starting here I was setting the tone for the whole set with the less flexible part of the two, and I missed the sense of what I intended to do later with the demons. In any case, before moving on to the following, this is how the angels turned out:

Devils' turn. Before starting the set I had looked at several references and decided that Doom would indeed be my main reference. But even though I know the games and their importance, I'm not a big fan, and my research was not enough. The first model I made is based on the Baron of Hell, since I understood that he was one of the most iconic enemies. Here is the resulting model.

And this is when I realize that I have messed up. I think it is easy to see that this model does not fit at all with the previous ones, with the angels, so continuing in this line would end up with two parts that would seem more like two different sets fitted into one. Although they come from a "hell plane" these enemies fit more as abominations than demons or devils. I considered reworking the angels, to give them a futuristic look, but it was already halfway the time, and with the entire second part still to be done.

So my decision was to redirect the part of the demons, resulting in a more classic and cartoony look. You can even see that one on the demons is the Baron completely reworked. I think they fit the angels now, and that both parts will be a good complement to games like Arcadia Quest Inferno. Here you can see them:

And in a completely separate mention. In this case I didn't care if it had consistency or not, but from the moment I mentioned hell this red guy was a must (The arm can be switched between sword and pistol)

Before ending this post I must apologize. This is not what was agreed, but I hope this text will help explain my reasons behind the change. And that the result, even if it is not what was expected, you like. At least this has been a good oportunity to let you know a bit more about the process of creating a set. And another nice part of this is that now the "Space Demon" concept is still open and will see its own set soon.

not a fan of that this turned in another medieval set more. i would have voted another thing. Maybe Onis or more samurais. At least they will be an SCI-FI demon in some point into the future... but still a very bitter taste , seeing that what could have been and what it turned into

Thanks for pointing it out! It is now open as it should. After so much time writing, my brain has slowed down.

Honestly I love all of it! Including the original Baron, even though I wasn't familiar with the character. Great work all around.

I love it!
