Hi Andrea! I listened to the song Misty and the velvety singing by Ella Fitzgerald. Jazz music, including this song, features a fair amount of accidentals - notes that fall outside the diatonic scale. Most lyres, being diatonic, lack the strings to play the full melody of the song. A chromatic instrument, such as the chromatic lyre or the piano, is a more suitable choice for this song. I've found a sheet music that boils down the song to just the main melody, where the lyrics were sang: https://musescore.com/user/29726630/scores/5414275 Every time there is a flat symbol (b), the diatonic lyre won't be able to play it, and can only resort to the nearest available natural note. As a result, anywhere with these flattened notes, the melody will sound different if played on the diatonic lyre. For the same reason, many jazz and classical pieces don't fit with diatonic instruments. I wish I knew a better solution than to change to a chromatic instrument.
