Turbine Dragster

After nearly 6 years of air engine development, it's time to start exploring turbines more! There's still a lot of development and testing to do, but with the new dynomometer, I'm determined to find a turbine that'll out perform my air powered plane record!

Very cool! Any thoughts about sharing the design files in any capacity? Would love to do this with my engineering students.

If I did my maths right I think there is about 2.4 kJ of energy within your 2L bottle at 80 psi. 0.002m^3 bottle of air at 550,000 Pa gauge pressure should contain 0.013 m^3 of air at atmospheric pressure. And according to Wikipedia you can use 100kJ/m^3 ln(P_a/P_b) to get pressure in compressed air. 0.013m^3*100kJ/m^3*ln(650,000/100,000) = 2.4kJ Which interestingly is less than you have in the LiPo battery (300mAh at 3S is 2.22Wh or 8kJ). Would be interesting to see how efficient the turbine is at converting the pressurised air into shaft power. I'm sure you could do better with properly aerodynamically designed aerofoils in the fins. I might have a go at designing those at some point.

Have you tried a Tesla turbine setup? Needs a full enclosure with air-tight seals on the outside, and exhaust towards the inside of the disk... Wish I had time to do a design on Onshape, but too many other projects to do to log onto that.
