Time To Vote For The January 2023 Theme

Hello Fellow Trappers!

We hope you are enjoying this months Halloween set! To recap what we have planned November will be our Journey Through The Astral Sea set, December will be the Dragons War set, and now we must vote for January. Leave your vote for your favorite theme below and remember that if your vote doesn't win it doesn't mean it is gone forever.

May Your Blades Stay Sharp And Your Flesh On Your Bones!

1. Revenge of The Farmomancer

Farmer Joe is tired of being treated like a peasant and his time has finally come. After stumbling upon a powerful magic tome in a crumbling abandoned tower he discovered deep on his property, Farmer Joe is finally ready to get the respect he deserves from those annoying adventuring types always passing though. You ready to see terrifying magically altered counterparts of barnyard animals? a lodge on the back of a massive pig? A chicken dragon to compliment our goose and turkey dragons? horrifying cow monsters? The farmomancer himself. Awakened monstrous vegetables?! This set will be a blast and make for a perfect one shot adventure and teach your murder hobo players a little lesson about respect. (I also we want to make this so bad, please vote for it I beg of you)

2. Tales From Okinja

In the Far East lies the land of Okinja home of the magnificent Shendo Empire. This set would draw heavy emphasis from east asian mythology with a heavy emphasis on China. It will be in perfect time for the Chinese new year and include asian style dragons, terracotta soldiers, Panda people, tigerfolk, various types of monks and martial artists. We could feature giant sky koi that are native to the region and they'd go perfect with the skyback lodge thats getting close to being done. Monsters that are based on the Chinese zodiac would also be very cool for this set creating an awesome idea for a campaign arc. For a lodge perhaps a giant golden foo lion with a fortress on its back. Let us know what you'd like to see! (This set would also have lots of minis that would work great for the current playtest material for our first campaign setting for those of you playtesting for us. If you'd like to join you still can just tag Austin on Discord.)

3. The Dragons War Pt. 2 - The Dwarshka Clockworks

The Dragons War is such a fun concept that we want to explore other factions that are involved in the conflict by making the Dragons War set 2 parts. The December set will feature the dragon born army but this one would focus on the Dwarshka. The Dwarshka are dwarves with a Russian feel to them. Their army would include lots of cool clockwork war machines with thick spider like legs to help them crawl across the battlefield. If you like dwarves this is the set for you! We also know it might not be popular to have two dragons war sets right in a row.  If the vote shows people don't want them right next to each other we'll try again later in the year.

4. Dragons of The Lodge

The Lodge is famous for hunting and trapping dragons but not all dragons are a threat. Some are good and can be negotiated with or even befriended. On occasion some of these dragons have been known to join the lodge to help deal with their more nefarious or problematic kin. This set would focus on these dragons. These dragons would be unique with an emphasis on their character and personality. A dragon cook? A dragon blacksmith? Maybe a dragon lodgemaster? We would also explore a variety of sizes of dragons in this set from dragon wyrmlings up though ancients so you can have a range of dragon ages to use in your games. We'd love to see what sort of dragon characters you could come up with.

Thank you for your answer. I'm not against cultural inspiration. I just think that you should be careful with wording those days when you put "Russian", "army" and "cool" in the adjacent sentences. I'm neither Russian nor Ukrainian but I'm Slavic (Polish) and I can assure you that Russians are not victims at the same level as Ukrainians are. That are not Russian houses that are being bombarded, that are not Russian civilians being killed and raped. The level to which they suffer is not compatible with the suffering of the Ukrainian people. Please, just please, do some research and be aware of how the situation really looks. That is all that I am asking for. In fact, I'm happy we talk if it gives more insight to at least one person.

While I understand your sentiment I also think the Russian culture and Slavic heritage are not the same as the Russian government and that the Russian people are a victim to their own government as much as the Ukrainians are. In that light I do not find it inappropriate to make sets based on traditional Russian culture. Nor do I think ridding ourselves of anything of Russian influence the correct way forward. So while I disagree, thankyou for your perspective. If we ever see this set get made we will be sure to be aware of the sensitivity around the subject matter and take it into account. -Austin, Creative Director

"Eastern European" would probably be more suitable. I get what they're going for though.

In the context of Russian aggression in Ukraine I don't think it is appropriate to base anything on Russia, especially army. And it is even less appropriate to call it "cool". Please consider changing the description of The Dragons War Pt. 2.
