True Crime. Ellie Nesler.
Added 2025-02-20 00:45:49 +0000 UTCHey everyone.
I've read and listened to each and every one of your feedbacks. Thank you so much for your time giving me your thoughts and I'll get back to writing to each of you shortly.
What I landed on and gathered from all of your thoughts is that a mix between the two styles would be the preference.
Many of you liked the professional nature of my scripted work, whilst many others felt as though having the camera on would lend itself better to a conversational style of video.
I tried to combine the two. What I did was pretty much read the script almost word for word, whilst attempting to maintain a natural flow of conversation with the camera.
It isn't perfect but I think fairly decent for my first time, I hope you enjoy the video. I haven't decided yet whether I'll send this to the main channel, but time will tell.
Feel free to leave any comments and criticisms on this one as well. Also, if you have any other ideas for how to present these minimal footage videos without using stock footage, I'd love to hear it as well. I'm most definitely not attached to having my mug on screen.
Link sheet will be updated shortly with the next round of projects.
Take it easy.
Dave

This format feels more personal, which I think would fit more sensitive cases. I still love your usual format too! There is a different vibe between the clean cut editing and the person face footage and both bring me the same product: an interesting case analysis done by a dashing Dave!

2025-03-03 04:10:45 +0000 UTCI'd never heard of this case - thanks for covering it. It reminds me of Gary Plauché.. except he walked away from his murder trial with five years probation and 300 hours of community service. I'm not saying it's the right thing to do.. but I can understand why these parents do it.. and maybe sometimes it is in the best interest of any children that may cross paths with these predators in the future.

2025-03-02 01:46:50 +0000 UTCThanks for the kind words. I was a tad but scared to get the old mug out whilst doing a video like this, so I appreciate the positive feedback.

2025-02-26 00:26:34 +0000 UTCIt really does. I was going to put some commentary in about a mother's love but thought that including the second case highlighted my feelings regarding that more subtly. I've been doing my best lately to subtly include my thoughts and feelings at the end. Seeing as one of the main factors that drew you in, I would love to hear any thoughts you have on videos coming out, and whether i'm still hitting that mark for you in a subtle manner. Thank you for joining up over here, and thanks for watching this one :)

2025-02-26 00:24:42 +0000 UTCYou know, I'm pretty bad with names. I may have, and I could do a quick google search to jog my memory. Actually, I'll do that now. Ok, so a quick google search leads me to believe that I haven't heard of this one. I might do a deep dive on it sometime soon. Sounds very interesting!

2025-02-26 00:21:48 +0000 UTCThanks for the thoughts, Plague. It's difficult for me to fully side with her actions, as I mentioned in the vid. But you know, in a situation like this, that man was an absolute menace. The bullet to the head is for sure not something that I will sit and think about whether it was right or wrong. In saying that, I too agree with your thoughts on how the media paraded this around. How horrible for that poor boy. Hearing constantly things like "You're the boy that was molested" I really do think that the media has a small part to blame in the death of David Davis, and the poor set of choices willie made following all of the storm surrounding his mother's actions.

2025-02-26 00:21:40 +0000 UTCAbsolutely true, Janissa. We have a long way to go before society figures out how to properly care for victims of this sort of horrible crime.

2025-02-26 00:06:26 +0000 UTC“He died almost instantly.” That tells me that he, hopefully, felt the pain, fear, and shock of the first few shots before dying.

2025-02-25 21:59:53 +0000 UTCI've been through something similar to Willie myself. I think the issue isn't just the predators, it's the lack of care for victims afterwards. There's no services for healing. This is one of my greatest frustrations with our punitive system. The focus is on the perpetrator, which makes sense from a safety standpoint. But the victims and their families are not healed, and when the system fails to stop the predators, it happens again, and things are worse than ever. While it's understandable to take revenge and maybe even necessary in some cases, this case highlights the areas that revenge cannot make better.

2025-02-25 14:20:24 +0000 UTCI have a few opinions on this case. First being, it’s pretty sad and a bit ironic that it took a meth head to serve justice. He was a multi-confirmed predator, and I believe anyone who harms a child deserves an automatic bullet to the dome. Zero question. So I find no fault in her actions. That being said, and second, I am clearly very much on the side of the mom’s actions, but I found it tasteless that it was paraded around within the media circus that erupted afterward, with the child’s darkest moments being showcased like it had. In no way could it have been helpful to the child’s mental health to have cameras on him zooming in while anchors announced his rape to millions of people. That just sat extremely wrong with me. Third, there shouldn’t be such a huge relief that televised hoedowns are held with whole ass albums being written about it. The immediate (and ideally painful) death of a confirmed child predator should be normal to the point of expected, in my mind. They are a complete deficit to society in every way, and simply take up space from actual human beings. Last, I found your ‘half Dave, half footage’ style great. Your inflection within your narration is top notch and has even made me tear up at times, but it’s also fun to see your physical expressions along with the subject manner. Fantastic vid as always, Dave. Thank you.

2025-02-20 15:25:55 +0000 UTCIn my non professional viewer opinion... I probably prefer a mix of the two, kind of like the misery machine. An ✨ even balance ✨ of the staring into souls 👁👁 and the photos/footage/etc.

2025-02-20 12:47:52 +0000 UTCI much prefer your "script" or "podcast" version to listen to. It's a smoother listen. I do enjoy the photos being shown full-screen if/when they're available, sort of a slide-show style. I'm not a fan of pictures up in the corner, they're pretty hard to see up there lol. I think the way you've done it here is spot on! 🙌🏻 Thank you for working so hard on this!

2025-02-20 04:10:52 +0000 UTCBeing somewhat newer to Patreon, I’m happy to finally be able to place a face to the voice that drew me in in the first place! That and the commentary at the end, that is. Great video - love how you tied in another similar case here too - shows the power of a mother’s love, doesn’t it?

2025-02-20 03:30:38 +0000 UTCWhat a sad case all around. I can't blame Ellie for what she did, often these creeps do slip through the cracks of the justice system and I have no doubt he would have gone on to hurt more children. Poor family.

2025-02-20 01:32:53 +0000 UTCDue to this comment, moving forward every video I make will be 99 percent my stupid face haha. If there's trial footage I'll put that up in a little window that takes up 8-9 percent of the corner of the screen, and i'll be eating crisps as the main focus.
