Islander Trapper Suggestions

Hello Fellow Trappers!

It looks like the April set will be the Islander trappers theme and it’s time to hear your suggestions. This is your chance to share your ideas on what you’d like to see in the set. There’s not a guarantee we’ll use your idea but we’d love to hear your thoughts. A few things to keep in mind with your suggestions, 1. We want this set to feel more tropical island and less pirates there can be elements but that shouldn’t be the main thrust. Keep that in mind with your suggestions. 2. There is now another tier so feel free to suggest terrain pieces as well as mobile lodge suggestions.

Some ideas we want to implement are giant turtle with interchangeable buildings on its back that can work as standalone models or in conjunction with the turtles shell so you can grow/expand your turtle in whatever way your players choose. What are some structures a group of traveling trappers might need? Blacksmith is one for sure but what else? It will essentially be a tiny town so throw what you got at us. What about monsters and trappers? Sharks, whales, squids, all free game. Get crazy. We like the weird stuff.

May Your Blades Stay Sharp And Your Flesh On Your Bones!

Comments

Sunken Atantis would be cool

Oh less pirates.....

Craaaaab people, craaaaaab people, walk like crabs, talk like people.

Super excited for this biome! In addition to all the other great suggestions, I would love to see a seaweed elemental and some weird anemones and hermit crabs. I could imagine a creepy eel horror-type-thing too

For terrain, how about some patches of sargassum (sea grass) with baby turtles in them. Maybe some sort of Portuguese man-of-war terrain/monster hybrid. Some sort of red tide based slime monster.

Elizabeth Horner

Jellyfish, starfish, and manta ray based monsters. Maybe some humanoids based off of manatees or platypuses. Maybe a brittle star golem with nasty barbs coming off of the arms.

Elizabeth Horner

Large dragon turtle that prowls the waters and demands a sacrifice (food or treasure) to let ships pass. How about some Grungs that live on the island and of course some vegi-pygmis to round it off. Terrain could include signs and warnings to stay away - all in Grung and VegiPygmi of course.... Maybe idols of the dragon turtle that they revere.

Darren Williams

Coconut Mimics! (I always want more mimics...)

Uh, Maui for sure. Trickster demigod that appears throughout Polynesian legend performing great feats? Yes please!

ErisTheMenace

I think some kind of ship or boat would be cool. Could be as big as a large mobile lodge or maybe small things like rowboats or rafts. Shipwreck/driftwood could make interesting scatter terrain, and some tropical plants or trees would be nice. What about a coral reef that the trappers have to swim and navigate through to find their targets? Some of the animals that first come to mind for a tropical island are snakes, lemurs, monkeys, crabs, leopards, and of course tropical fish and birds. I would like to see a nice mix of land based and water based creatures and terrain for this release because I think that is important for an island setting.

We acctually did a lion fish dragon in December of 2020

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

nautilus?

Justin Hudechek

No joke for this set starfish people would be pretty cool! maybe some pelicans monsters, maybe a crazy nautilus dragon! camilions or iguana people/monsters. also, because I'm an adorable creature lover SEA OTTERSFOLK oh my god I would die if you made seas otter folk. Like a sea otter in shades and a Hawaiian tee shirt with a drink loungeing as a one off I would give complements to the chief for that!

Justin Hudechek

I'd like to see some fantasy twists on AAPI traditional weaponry. Like clubs and gauntlets studded with shark (or "dragon"?!) teeth, etc. Either loose or wielded by someone.

Ben The DorkKnight

this oh man this!

Justin Hudechek

loch ness monster type water dino with chariot option. spear fishing rig and fish in nets props that make him look like a useful hunting pet. Toucan bird that looks more prehistoric and violent. silently bigger eyes and hard looking beak like it is used to crush things. maybe a rider with a net or spear/club to help out.

Bobby Blanding

sea snails, or the type of squid that lives in a shell, I forget what they are called. coral armor for soldiers, calm bra is required of course for the girls. I think he hunters should have gills, or at least look like they can breath water.

Bobby Blanding

nets and trap terrain would be great. the type that look like they can float around because of water. this helps with scatter terrain on a map and makes the map make more sense.

Bobby Blanding

All of the above! 🤙🏼

Piecemakers

Would love a manta surfer duo 🤩

Piecemakers

My votes in for some crab/shark people. I imagine bipedal crablike humanoids with wide heads and articulated shells dressed in tribal garb made from moss and scrap fabric from shipwrecks.

Johnathan Chambers

Possessed or mimic Volleyball named Wilson

Would be Astronaut Scott Z

I keep thinking of a large horseshoe crab with a ballista or spear chucker on the back. Perfect for taking neighboring islands....

Legio Mortis 40k

Tiki mask galore. Make stackable tiki totem creatures. A toucan “aaracockra”. Tiny coconut creatures that form swarms, volcano priestess, mermaids/sirens, seahorse type creature; something with a lot of 🌺 flowers. (Maybe a golem or shambling mount or so).

Jeffrey Ernst

A Taniwha would be awesome, they are giant sea monsters from Māori legend. Also some sort of Manta Ray Creature. You could have riders that use the Manta Ray to surf along the waves.

… rideable Puffin.

Julianne Edwards

Hermit crab monsters in various unusual things. Could even be hermit crab humanoids with weapons and stuff. Treasure chests, skulls, boatwrecks. Could give a non crab and crab version so they can be used similar to mimics. Camoflauged octopus mosnters/people. Some sort of lionfish monster/dragon. A swiss family Robinson type house as terrain.

Alex Leasenby

The turtle being a massive leatherback would be awesome. Light house for a building Manta Ray creatures or a mount.

Roddy Novogradac

Giant humpback whale dragon!!!

Coconut trolls like the kakamora in Moana.

Alex Leasenby

How about a leafy sea dragon or seahorse dragon / beast....

Michael Abraham

I’d love to see some mini Tiki warriors (similar to the snow ones but with masks) riding sea gull mounts. It’s very rare to find decent bird mounts and 3 different flyers would be nice. Canoe ship things like used in the Disney film Moana. Lizard folk but styled as an iguana.

The_ Hybred

Flying sea horse dragon.

PNDMike

A beachcomber hermit crab?

Josh Rodell

We need a cute sharkgirl. And a shipwreck hermit crab.

Niels Korteling

dude, a marine iguana with a tail made of snakes??

Crustacean dragon? Mollusk people?

Oh boy, what to pick. This is so perfect for my campaign setting, I can't even think where to start. Obviously some aquatic humanoids (fish people, crab people, octopus people) are always welcome. Maybe some mosasaur-like creatures, you don't see them done very often. Maybe a dire plesiosaur. Maybe that could be for the dragon, which should 100% be mainly aquatic. Maybe some little volcano spirits. What about little magma monkeys that throw chunks of flaming rock. Maybe a weird shrimp-creature that's adapted to live on land. Or maybe even up trees. Maybe an ancient carved stone golem, who's sat on the beach for hundreds or years getting eroded and covered in rock pools, but is now waking up. Maybe a jaguar-type hunter who hides in the thick rainforest, watching you from the undergrowth with huge green eyes. I don't know what the twist would be, but you never seem to struggle with that. Maybe a coastal semi-aquatic wyvern of some sort. Maybe it's something like a flying iguana. Those are the first ideas off the top of my head, but I'm sure I could come up with as many more again.

Josh Rodell

I think being set on a Lion-Turtle would be epic! It would be a slight nod to eastern mythos, but i think it could still work for tropical. As far as components, the basics. and alchemy/enchantment tower, blacksmith, Component storage, portals? trophy room? something i think could look great is a small merchant port where flying or sailing merchants can intersect with the Lion-Turtle and dock and sell wares.

Daniel Burnworth

Little coconut dudes like in Moana

Man-O-War jelly fish Kraken Sea serpent Ship wrecker wail Sahuagin type enemies Let's get weird animated shipwreck automaton welding cannons, anchor on a chain, splintered clawed hand, masts, etc Alchemist shop Enchanter/magic item shop Slain monster components harvesting shop Ship armament/repair

Jeff

Something albatross based - wanderers of the sea, visitors of islands. A bringer of news, rumor woe and joy? Predatory cone snails - they're terrifying. Booby (The bird species.) npc - they act as matchmakers on the isles, advertising their services by waving their iconic feet! Beaked whale bouncers (Blainville's beaked whale, for example) - deep, deep divers. Working night shift on the island(s) to help keep the peace. Scarred by their fights with each other, and run ins with cookie cutter sharks.

I'm thinking of a volcanic monster, similar to Zorah Magdaros or Dire Miralis from monster hunter; something naturally flowing with lava. Also, a turtle island would probably need to have a shipwright.

Parker Lewis

Just wait til next month.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

We have a coconut crab Mount in the set this one will be a continuation of

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Yes please

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

How does one ride a star fish?

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Like big bird? Jk

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Whale monster coming up.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Interesting idea. Tiki people made a tiki dragon

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Maybe some type of Stonefish inspired mob. I'd love to maybe see a spinosaur based dragon since they were at least partially aquatic.

That sounds fun

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Shoulder octopus instead of shoulder parrot?

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

I'm here for a tiki style tavern!

Linnea Juul Sten

Tortles are a good fit.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Rogo-Tumu-Here, the octopus demon.

Nicholas McCurdy

Pig nosed turtle tortle trapper!!

Linnea Juul Sten

I can get behind that.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Coconut crab or hermit crab dragons or mounts

Swiss family Robinson style shipwreck shelter and terrain

Mike Lea

Cuttlefish folk with octopus mounts

Mike Lea

Giant turtle is absolutely a fantastic idea! Since it's tropical island, how about some creators combined with cocos, maybe an "Exeggutor" type monster lol

I'd love to see some enemies wielding moari style/obsidian weapons.

Ciza161

Tropical fish folk, starfish mounts

Mike Lea

Shark people and for the buildings like potion seller maybe

Maw of Sekolah, a two-headed shark

Paul Morin

One of the things I really like in Pathfinder is that elementals aren't just humans/ghosts, but come in all sorts of cool flavours like Cinder Rats, Magma Scorpions, Mist Stalkers (Water Octopi) and more. Personally I love the idea of going wild with elemental animals, monsters, and beasts. A crab made of earth, falcons made of living wind and lightning, a gorilla made of ice and mist. There are some really cool mashups that can happen and keep the elemental theme while still being super on brand with the tropical theme. It would also be really cool to see the different Genasi that live among the elements, and the different cultures that could spring up in such an environment. Oh, and also Tortles. Would love to see different types of tortles like snapping turtle tortles, flatback tortles, and more.

PNDMike

PARROTS. Also, most tropical islands tend to be coral reef atolls or of volcanic origins -- coral comes in so many fabulous shapes and would be cool and unique for terrain (think Subnautica aesthetics perhaps?). Maybe even a wreck on the shore of the island, partly submerged by the tide!

Amanda Winter

Quetzalcoatl style dragons, maybe feathered dragon like creatures in general? Would love to see feathered dragonborns!

What about like an aquatic chariot, lol sharks for horses, and some sort of old sunken ship bits as the chariot. A cool tortle wizard riding on it? Jellyfish creatures Fishing equipment for scatter terrain

Fatmanicus Fabrications

Tiki mask themes would be awesome, maybe a tiki style tavern? I feel like not necessarily tropical- but old dive suits kinda go hand in hand.

bromeliad terrain, golden tamarin inspired characters, Komodo dragon inspired characters

Mike Lea

I'll reiterate my wish for a gigantic Whale Monster.

Drakensgreed

I'm feeling something Tiki. A tiki themed dragon perhaps?

Daniel Hamilton

I second the crabfolk and Nautilus ideas!

I live the idea of giant skeletal remains hurting out of tropical coves and such

Coconut crab mounts, horseshoe crab monsters, tropical bird dragon, palm tree treehouse terrain, piles of seashells for terrain, giant nautilus shell shelter with makeshift structure built up around it. Washed up sea carcass terrain, shelter made from turtle shells and giant crustacean bits

Mike Lea

Something somthing Coconut spirits.

Gabriel Dominguez

I'd love a good octopus model. Either plain or monstrous would work for me. Maybe a Trapper with a pet/familiar.

Shaun Mayne

a dragon turtle with shark people cultist, some tortles and tritons as trappers. perhaps some interesting monkeys. the mobile lodge could be a whale shaped submarine.

One thing for terrain, if giant turtles exist, maybe a giant turtle skeleton is used as a stationary building. Shell can be removed to see inside perhaps.

Farleyap

Whale folk, both PC sized and giant!
