Wild West Suggestion Post

Hello Fellow Trappers!

It looks like the March set will be the Wild West theme and it’s time to hear your suggestions. This is your chance to share your ideas on what you’d like to see in the set. There’s not a guarantee we’ll use your idea but we’d love to hear your thoughts. A few things to keep in mind with your suggestions, 1. We want this set to feel more southwest as opposed to the frontier feel of last augusts set. Keep that in mind with your suggestions. 2. There is now another tier so feel free to suggest terrain pieces as well as mobile lodge suggestions.

Now let’s hear your ideas. Some ideas we have are a train dragon but maybe that’s too weird? Maybe you’d rather see a Gila monster dragon or something else? Rattlesnake monsters, skeletal mariachi band bards, gunslinger, cactus creatures, chubacabra. These are some of these ideas we have. How can we merge the wild west theme with fantasy? Go wild! Get creative!

May Your Blades Stay Sharp And Your Flesh On Your Bones!

I don't really have a lot of use for a western theme set, but if you're gonna do it I hope you lean heavily on the fantasy and make all of the technological stuff tinker gnome related. Here are some things I think I'd be able to make use of - A hot air ballon - Werecyotees - Jackalopes - Vultures (normal and giant sizes) - A bank vault - A saloon with gambling scatter like a craps table or blackjack table - Ladies of the night - A traveling theater troop - A vertical mine shaft entrance I'd also like to see some unique mining equipment that other designers haven't done yet, like an old stamp mill (see link) https://i.pinimg.com/originals/55/87/3e/55873ea1b8d19a3603d12536ddcbc6a8.jpg

I love the thought of Sheriff Bigfoot cowboy hat leather vest big shiny star the works. also there need to be cows or a cow stand in the wild west would feel a bit empty with no cowboys

Moving to the north west there's the Tsonoqua cannibal woman myth. Might be a good substitute for a Wendigo, which Patreon sets seem to be over saturated with. Skinwalkers of some type would be interesting. Giant animal spirits like coyote and raven could be cool.

Bryan Stancliff

Pulling from actual Native American mythology would be nice to see.Hopi myth is heavily entrenched in ogres (Soyoks). Bears, lizards and eagles play a large role in the Zuni fetish tradition. A huge Thunderbird would be appropriate. Bison riders would be cool.

Bryan Stancliff

I think ostrich/roadrunner is the way to go for a mount, but I could imagine a yoked bighorn sheep pulling a trapper cart And to add to the rattlesnake hydra idea that seems to be floating around, what about a horrendous ball of rattlesnakes like a "rat king", where rattlesnakes caught by the tail have merged into some disgusting amalgamated monster

modular wagon or a single train of wagons pulled by a powerful animal.

Train Lodge would be neat too.

Alex Leasenby

A modular wagon

Ciza161

Multipart cowboy kits would be cool

Jesse White

Goblin gunslingers and monkeys. Always monkeys :)

Ryder Frankle

Could we get a saloon mobile lodge on some sorta desert creature? Or maybe a non-mobile one on a giant cactus/patch of cacti? I'd be in to some non-standard gunslingers. Snakefolk/lizardfolk/tortoisefolk? Kobolds, orcs, ghosts/revanants? Coyote/snakes/lizard mounts?

Alex Leasenby

scatter or building bits in the style of the ancient pueblo peoples would be cool, in ruin and not ruin (wood and leather tops) like at Mesa Verde: https://www.nps.gov/media/photo/gallery.htm?pg=1978152&id=FF496A0D-155D-451F-6780618AC2528471

Don’t know if this has been said but what about a giant robotic spider ala Wild Wild West

Ted Wilson

I would love some bounty hunters with long black powder rifles. Maybe inspired by Boba Fett or the mandalorian? But with Fantasy kind of armor and backpacks/gear. Would also love just a barrel topped wagon pulled by a horse. Or a coach. Maybe in action pose?

Frans

A little oddball, but how about a tumbleweed, cacti, and fence post golem? Or, if the tumbleweed would be too small of details to print, you could do cacti, fence posts, horse troughs, and an old timey clock face from a tower? A lot of different combinations would be possible, really.

bojesphob

Maybe some inspiration from National Parks like Mesa Verde and Big Bend? The Terlingua/Big Bend area of TX has amazing old ruins and cemeteries - lots of prickly pear cactus, semi-subterranean structures, mountain lions etc. Mesa Verde's architecture took my breath away with its cliff dwellings and kivas.

If you are looking to capture the SOUTH west, Dios de los muertos is a wonderful aesthetic to pull from.

Logophylia

I am really looking forwards to the train dragon! Also cactus monsters and/or cactus terrain.

Amber Arvila

Dire jackalopes steeds for gunfighter halflings

Oh man, I love westerns. I’d like to see a dragon oil salesman with his cart of wonders being pulled by a single beast of burden. A cross between an armadillo, Gila monster and an ox might be cool. Gunslingers riding a raptoresque creature. What if the dragon had a chin guard that resembles a trains cattle guard and there are a few train cars on its back? The dragon could even resemble a large Gila monster ala no wings.

Jason Holloway

Oh my goodness so many amazing ideas! I'm so excited for the train dragon and really hope you decide to do it! I was imagining something like a transformer dragon of an old coal train. I'd love to see a burro/donkey/llama/alpaca/ostrich trio for a fluffy option. Add hats? Always a good idea. Maybe wizards? Abandoned mineshafts for terrain. Miners - maybe lizardfolk? Armadillo folk miners? Were-coyote or a Jinn-coyote? I really love the idea of the trickster god Coyote in Native American lore.

Although, IIRC, Paul Bunyan was created by a car dealership back in the early 1900s (in N. Portland, if memory serves). There's a documentary and everything.

Piecemakers

Oh, I would love that, yes. Using traditional patterns and costuming to denote its/their story 🤩

Piecemakers

To be clear, only the leaders of the plains tribes wore the "typical" feathered headdress and it'd be my /strong/ recommendation that DTL reach out to First Nation people for input before going the way of the NFL, etc. in co-opting cultural elements ad hoc. 😅🤙🏼 Besides, wasn't there already an entire release dedicated to that sort of frontier-era theme? I feel that this Wild West release should compliment that previous one and not seek to restate or repeat it. /my2¢

Piecemakers

Heck yeah train dragon! That's legit the main reason I voted for this theme

Nikolas Matovinovic

A large earthen bull that has the texas long horn style horns.

Josh Kita

Coyotes, giant toads and giant snakes would all make fantastic low challenge rating monsters for dnd adventures. What I would love to see though is a group of crow kenku. I would love to see them in a native american style though. Like one would look like the typical tribal chief with a large feathered headdress for a crest. Another could be styled more after the west coast tribal ravens.

Please please please include a kokopelli model and some one or more models that capture the Hopi Kachina style.

Harry Colquhoun

mechanical steam powered train dragon sounds incredible!

Hizeru

Love this!

Arch DeLux

Please keep the train dragon, I would love to see how it turns out. As far as other ideas, folks in the comments have put out some awesome critters. I would like thunderbirds, lake monsters, wendigos.

George Martinez

Big demon gunslinger with a cigar in mouth.

Maybe a pistola dragon? A dragon that is basically a giant gun made by an artificer?

Maybe a bone gollum colorized of bones from the desert with vultures perched on him that it can control? Definitely would need the classic desert steer skull for the head though!

Maybe a herd of "spirit cattle". A bunch of ghostly ethereal steers, kinda a nod to the song "ghost riders in the sky" could also be driven by some ghostly rustlers or something!

Cactus elemental! I wanna see a big pokey boi!

A Gila monster Dragonborn Coyote is the trickster god in a lot of Native American religions

Nicholas McCurdy

Desert creature outlaws, desert plant and creature combos, cacti rattlesnakes, armadillo dragon, bull dragon.

MB

Giant sand worm with mandibles Perhaps a krate dragon (og or mandolorian) Multi hoarse drawn stagecoach Large vulture creatures Large armadillo lizard monster Warforged dressed like Clint Eastwood in A Fistful of Dollars Rock bridge of Kharaz Desert rock archways Sand dunes Bottlenecked mountain pass

Jeff

I need a centaur in a cowboy hat please and thank you 😂

zombie cowboys and nosferatu townspeople

American mythology is full of awesome creatures that could make for great monsters found in a wild west environment. Pukwudgies, Sasquatch, Mothman, Jersey Devil, multiple lake monsters that span from Nessie-like creatures to giant eels, catfish, and gators, the Catawampus, Nightmares, ghosts and demons, could even go in a Paul Bunyan and Blue the ox vibe.

PNDMike

I'm not opposed to the train dragon; kind of like another region's version of the chardalyn dragon. Also loved the idea of armadillo-folk

Travis McGruder

There was a great model in August that was a huge jackalope looking creature. Would love to see some smaller jackalopes too -- or even Jackalope people.

PNDMike

Jackalopes!

michael janney

Cactus or Rattlesnake Dragon Demon Gambler Mariachi Bard Vulture Kenku type Tortoise Humanoid Steampunk Train Saloon Terrain

Yes! Moo Mesa minotaurs!

Posted a tonne in chat in Discord. Dragon Train 4 Armed Gunslinger Warforged Horny Toad Dragon Cactus Men Lynx Tabaxi Dragonmen Based on the Athas Dragon (Borys) Scorpion Men Four HorseMEN of the Apocalypse Desert Salt/Crystal Zombies Steampunk WIld West Golem and Sheriff and more. I had a surprising amount of ideas

SaiTheFae

Armadillo folk. Great armored hulks with giant claws, that can barely see at all and mostly come out at night? They were MADE for fantasy games

Rozaline

So, the only reason i changed my vote to this was because i read Train Dragon and Chupacabra, please dont let me down.

People Vultures

Josh Rodell

Cowboy minotaurs! The cows have become the cowboys and cowgirls.

PNDMike

Cactus ents, giant scorpion, thunderbird, gila monster mount

cadenheadr04

Modular cactus mobs!! I am loving the modular creatures

Native American and African American characters Alien grey style gunslingers/adventurers Sharman taming/communing with beasts Sand turtles with buildings on them Fantasy races carpet baggers

Thunderbird Wendigo Chupacabra

You mentioned an artificer with a mechanical horse. How about a warforged centaur sheriff instead? Maybe some catfolk mariachi dancers to go with the skeleton band?

Elizabeth Horner

Some kind of a clock on some terrain piece for that "high noon" feel. Saloon would be amazing, maybe carved into the side of a southwest style rock formation. Monks and friars were also common in SW missions. There is some creepy stuff to be done with people of god. Last but not least a gambler of some kind. Please some cards somewhere in the mix. Cards are so very wild west.

Joe Root

A mimic train car would be pretty cool

Bas Vermeyden

A saloon would be really cool for the terrain and an old-fashioned undertaker with like those coffins out front with maybe some bad guys laying in them with coins on their eyes could be cool

Michael Abraham

They said they wanted this set to feel wild west, they did a Cajun bayou swamp set earlier this year, but it would be fun to go back maybe in the future and do some more there

Michael Abraham

Some cajun bayou feeling maybe ?

A couple months back in the Northern Dragoose set there is a Bison Minotaur as well as a Moose Minotaur and a Stag Minotaur, and they are all awesome :)

Michael Abraham

Maybe a Spirit of west demon. They could be like an undertaker that reaps souls along the desert. Also no western terrain would be complete without a saloon and a caravan. That dragon train sounds epic please don't dump it!

Bison Minotaur trapper, Wendingo, and maybe some Gecko Riders. And you need to stick with your Dragon Train idea. It’s so crazy that I need to see it.

It would be nice to have modular hands for any characters with firearms so the guns could be replaced with bows and crossbows. For those of us who don't like guns in our fantasy.

Eric Jackson

Rattlesnake hydra for sure. This could be a fun month to explore a lot of mounted options since the Wild West is fairly synonymous with cowboys and such. Maybe dire coyotes ridden by vicious outlaws decked in teeth and leather, sheriff centaurs all done up and dignified, or even thorny dragons being used as mounts for more esoteric trappers

Satellite

I’m picturing a Jonah Hex figure or some cactus monsters.

Oh, I'm loving the gila monster basilisk, but picturing it more like a high mesa behir. 🤩 Also, the roadrunner kenku as gunslinger in tassled sombrero and crossed bandolier, workin' a stub of an old cigar in their beak. And, definitely a cactus ent/blight, chupacabra, and YES to sandworms. Bulette-style armored apex predators of the deep desert. 🤘🏼

Piecemakers

How about a Gila Monster dragon/Gila Monster basilisk, a Roadrunner aarakocra/kenku Dragon Trapper, a Horned Toad Lizard(either dragon or Dragon Trapper lizardfolk), a cactus ent, a chupacabra, or what about a sand worm?

Tumbleweed dryads and cactus treant. Goldmine golem, made from minecart etc.

A herd of Catoblepas, Cactus Dragon, little Tumbleweed creatures / Elementals, Maybe not traditional guns with gunslingers but some sort of gun / sword combo and Pistol/Dagger combos for the gunslingers, giant Rattlesnake or 3 headed rattle snake hydra, Yuan-ti Anathema were-coyotes, were-ravens, were-armadillos, dwarven goldminers and blacksmiths, mine cars, a forge to smith the gold and ore from the mines, indigenous desert centaurs, vulturegriffin, Thunderbird like from Fantastic beasts and where to find them , Half-man half-scorpion trappers, giant tarantula

Michael Abraham

A rattlesnake gunslinger a little bit like things you could find in Rango?

Okay, this is out there, but I kinda wanna see a fire breathing mechanical spider monster as a wild wild west reference 🙈

Linnea Juul Sten

I’m thinking like a gunslinger surfing a rattlesnake?
