Almost everything regarding law enforcement down here in the US south is so deeply corrupt, and always has been. It's very sad. It hurts me to think of things I have seen, cops following and spotlighting kids riding their bikes, 6'4 officers shouting down and pushing 12 year old girls... 5th graders who, when they see a cop car drive by in what, to you or I might think of as an innocuous situation, immediately dropping to their knees and putting their hands behind their heads.... It's incredibly scary. And that kind of power with such a lack of accountability does attract people from many races nowadays. I'm sure it has improved some things but on the other hand we all know there are cruel and power hungry people from every walk of life. The lived reality is very intense, even for those of us who are peripherally involved, as opposed to personally targeted.
