Trappers of the Wasted Suggestion Post
Added 2021-10-20 18:37:49 +0000 UTCHello Fellow Trappers!
It looks like our mad max theme beat out dinosaurs for January's set which means It's time to hear your suggestion. For those of you who are new this is your chance to throw some ideas out about what you think might be cool within the theme and if you're lucky see your idea turned into a model. Keep in mind that this isn't a guarantee that your idea will be used but we love to hear what our patrons come up with. Here is some lore to give you an idea of what we're thinking for the set and what fits within the bounds of the world.
This lodge is a last resort for criminals set to be executed or imprisoned for life. Essentially the worst and most depraved criminals can opt to forgo their sentence and serve a year serving in the Lodge of the Wasted and if they survive it they are free to go. The missions trappers of this lodge undertake are extremely deadly, ones that other lodges won't send trappers on as they are often deemed suicide missions. Both the members and tactics of this lodge are considered highly controversial among people. These trappers are reckless, wild, and often lacking in self-preservation instincts. The sadistic trappers of this lodge are kept in control via 3 separate geas spells cast on them every cycle by the ruthless wardens of the lodge to keep them in check. As far as technology goes there are no modern weapons or vehicles but perhaps more medieval counterparts. We are thinking mechanical or human powered vehicles, rudimentary firearms but perhaps instead more mechanical variations of things like cannons and crossbows. Likely little to no animal mounts since they are so cruel but perhaps some large beasts rigged for war or even a subjugated dragon themselves? Some ideas we have are a cleric of a "pain" domain, or perhaps an artificer making vehicles and weapons (spikes and chains everywhere of course). Maybe a trapper that was wrongly imprisoned for a crime they didn't commit just trying to survive a year at the lodge so they can earn their freedom back? Perhaps some orcs and goblins? What kind of monsters do these trappers take on? what sort of dragon for this set? What kind of weapons vehicles or contraptions do they come up with?
Be specific with your ideas and see what interesting machines and vehicles you can come up with. We want this set to have some fun and quirkiness to it, think the borderlands games. One of our favorite parts of the patreon has been building the lore with you all! We can't wait to hear your ideas! Go crazy!
May your blades stay sharp and your flesh on your bones!

Nice ideas for animal mash-ups!

2021-11-16 02:57:45 +0000 UTCTrappers: Orcs, Gnolls, Goblins, Kobolds, Minotaurs, and modified humans. Berserkers, Artificers, Asassins, and Gang Leaders. Mounts: World of Warcraft style Steam Choppers, Construct creatures, Chimera beasts that cant feel pain Dragon: How about a sand wyrm style dragon. 8 legs, tiny wings Macabre face and and giant stinger tail. Large Monster: Triple stinger scorpion, Desert worms, Spider demon, Lizard Monster. Massive desert boar with babirusa style tusks. (Check those pigs out... they are terrifying and males will often die from their own tusks)

2021-10-28 03:44:45 +0000 UTCI like the Dark Suns concept, its mad max D&D essential, with magic having turned the word into a desert... nearly all the characters in that looked liked they'd steal any think if it wasn't bolted down.
2021-10-27 08:28:22 +0000 UTCSome mad max style harlequin/blade dancer ladies could fit into a lot of table top systems.

2021-10-25 23:50:27 +0000 UTCor a goblin on top of an ogre?
Jon Self
2021-10-25 13:35:48 +0000 UTCneed one person with an axe guitar that shoots flames out the base of the shaft. perhaps war carts with people swung out on poles with explosives or spears
Jon Self
2021-10-25 13:34:38 +0000 UTCAs for suggestions, how about a subterranean drill vehicle, something that bursts out of the ground, giant drill at the front for a surprise attack from beneath? Made of wood, iron and stuff like that. Or a Landship, with wheels and sails. A wooden/iron steampowered Mechwarrior piloted by an Orc? And I love Undead, we also need Undead of some sorts.

2021-10-22 08:08:07 +0000 UTCOne question, whatever machines you make, please take into consideration that some of us still have smaller printers ( I have an elegoo Mars) even the wagon in the welcome pack is too big to print and needs cutting. So please make parts then?

2021-10-22 08:06:06 +0000 UTCAn antlion like sand trap creature would also be cool.

2021-10-21 14:48:04 +0000 UTCI have a part of my world that is partly irradiated waste, but is still inhabited due to the resources that come from its particular destruction. A piece of Devilstone was blown away from the sun, a crystalline prison for a cosmic power, and landed like a falling star on the continent. The stone has grown like Tiberius from C&C and with it comes radiation and tears in reality where devils and monsters rage. My thought for the dragon would be a in lines with the corroder dragon someone else suggested. But instead of rusted metal the dragon has tumerous crystalline growths sprouting from their body. The dragons, while still a menace on the tribal peoples and civilized centers, are mainly hunted for these unique growths of devilstone. This particular specimen is smarter than usual, feeds off the pursuing trappers, seeds spies, lays traps, and has kept themselves alive through brain and brawn. Where it’s wits are not sufficient it’s radioactive acid breath more than makes up the difference.
Johnathan Chambers
2021-10-21 14:45:15 +0000 UTCI'd love to see a roadrunner terror bird kinda monster. Something super deadly that runs at high speeds and needs chasing. No point in big spikey vehicles if the monsters aren't also speed demons.
Josh Kita
2021-10-21 13:18:55 +0000 UTCA doomsday prepper/explosives expert who fits in so well here he didn't leave once his sentence was up. A large-sized humanoid (ogre) wearing scrap full-plate, and wielding a huge scrap of twisted, broken metal. A huge, snarling beast, pulling four handlers on chains they're supposed to be restraining it with. Two trappers who can't undo the shackles that mind them together, so they've just learned to fight like that now.
Josh Rodell
2021-10-21 08:36:00 +0000 UTCWould love to see a madmax mixed with dinosaur theme.

2021-10-21 06:15:11 +0000 UTCIf there's no master blaster or thunder dome in this set I'll be upset lo. But seriously a master blaster where it's like a little mutated goblin on top of a big giant mutated goblin or a little mutated rat on top of a giant rat would be kind of hilariousl. Also another cool idea might be a giant sentient Cobra that has maybe a mechanical body created for it that makes it look like a dragon and maybe the trappers drain its venom for poison to make poisonous weapons
Michael Abraham
2021-10-21 02:26:13 +0000 UTCmy first few ideas after hearing the theme, poison, all the poison, and psionics, the sort of mind 'taking' mostp eople frown upon, and finally explosives and or a combination of all three, but here's how it all ties in, as in tactics mostp eople would not touch. Insects and arachnids, most trappers not only would not, but cannot work with beasts so alien and emotionless, some prefer it, some can only manage it through a psychic connection, becoming the hivemind and directing a swrm or a few giant beetles, and then all the spiders, from giant ot small, webs to venom, perfect for trapping and hunting, but no normal person would work with spiders, all the drow stuff, riding giant spiders, serving them, maybe even a hybrid, but anyone who works with them from being a hunchback where the whole hump is a crazy spider colony to having a huge puffy deformed face/ body from the venom and constant bites. Bring it back around to the explosives theme, when every critter is under a psychic command, from bombardier beetles to literal beetles with bombs on thier backs, they really will rush an enemy and detonate themselves, in addition to stuff like a sling stuff and lobbing beetles with a big bloated body full of chemical explosives or acid "think boom bugs', for some of the crazy penal colony trappers, a few mass destruction types nobody else would work with, poison guy 9everything dies) leaves toxic clouds and miasma everywhere, pyromaniac, similar, everywhere he goes, everything must burn, and an actual assassin, jungle/ wilderness ninja, stealth killer, crazy guy painted in mud blood and poo so even animals can't smell him, able to creep up on anything with lots of knifes, just loves killing, those are the archetypes of depraved criminals that might actually survive a year, and tactics no regular hunter would use
2021-10-21 02:05:00 +0000 UTCThe Doof Warrior, Master of Bardic Flames and Shredding. Everyone needs a hype man!
ErisTheMenace
2021-10-21 01:32:00 +0000 UTCI'd love to see a medium sized victim of extreme mutation. Give us a few options of squirmy bits, arms, tentacles to mash together a nightmare who roams the wastes. Another cool adversary would be the dregs who are forced to survive in the outlands; scavengers, cannibals, and bandits who barely survive out there
2021-10-20 23:43:15 +0000 UTCI'd love to see some sort of small goblin sapper team, like in DoTA or some such. Or a dwarven "gatling cannon" team of just slap-dash engineering of a multi-barreled monster gun. I'd also love to see maybe a dragon that has augmented their own scaly hide to counteract these more bombastic loot-seekers by strapping/bolting armor plating to itself. Like some grizzled half-mad mix of Deathwing from WoW and an Ork Trukk.
Ben The DorkKnight
2021-10-20 23:24:19 +0000 UTCI'm happy to see the community loving this set so much already! I'm not sold though...It seems it could fall easily into a very clichè amalgam. Someone in the comments mentioned sand-windsurfers, how about (sand?)snowboarding on a rock like Taliah from LOL? And for the dragon, maybe an Archvillain/Mastermind dragon? Let me explain...A dragon that shows a heightened level of intelligence, knows that it is being hunted, and takes pleasure in ambushing the seemingly endless supply of trappers-inmates that keep trying to get it, gathering some alluring souvenirs/trophies from said slain trappers.
2021-10-20 21:52:20 +0000 UTCIm hoping Dinos get to be February ( my Birthday month ) then lol
Michael Abraham
2021-10-20 21:49:27 +0000 UTCI'd like to see a "Big Bertha" hero character weilding a mace and spike collar.
Eugene
2021-10-20 21:09:03 +0000 UTCA smoking diesel golem! A Mongolian death worm dragon! A kangaroo wyvern. A thylocoleo griffon!
Alice
2021-10-20 20:39:15 +0000 UTCHave him on all fours. Or make him a were creature. Happy either way. Were allows weapons
Harold Harmon
2021-10-20 20:34:23 +0000 UTCI want a large hyena/dog-like creature. Name him Max. Put him in leather with shoulder pads. Brace on a leg. Fury road style muzzle on him. Option to have head with and without muzzle. He will need spikes on his “armor” as well.
Harold Harmon
2021-10-20 20:33:00 +0000 UTCIf any of the prisoners escape you’re gonna need a tracker. How about a miniature inspired by Dog The Bounty Hunter? You could even give him a dog face.
2021-10-20 20:21:34 +0000 UTCSuicide Squad/Penal Colony trappers is pure genius. It could be cool if one among them was a "handler" type, not a prisoner, but meant to keep them on track, maintain the geas influence or whatever leverage is used to control them and prevent mutiny against the lodge.
Travis McGruder
2021-10-20 20:19:56 +0000 UTCGotta admit I love the cleric of “pain” thing. I had a cleric of Loviatar once who decided that he would still heal people but that he could not bear to have them miss out on the pain from their healing time. (That would be a sin against his Lady) So ... he rigged his healing spell to have all the pain they should have encountered be condensed into the moment of magical healing. (Most characters survived without having a heart attack from the pain). Someone like that would make a interesting member of the staff for just such a Lodge.
2021-10-20 20:16:55 +0000 UTCGyrocopter sounds awesome!
The Dragon Trappers Lodge
2021-10-20 20:14:07 +0000 UTC"Dust devils" Perhaps they are goblins riding hunk a junk gyrocopters or something similar. Giant gila monster with a steampunk fashioned saddle and accompanying woman rider. Perhaps she has a more sophisticated appearance. I'm thinking a fancy dress laden down with more appropriate survival tools so that they kind of clash.
2021-10-20 20:13:58 +0000 UTCA human artificer that dabbles in steam punk tech, maybe a little mounted Canon on his shoulder and a mechanical glove that is used as his focus. Goggles of course, messed up hair, long duster to fit with the wasteland asthetic. Goblin scavenger, brutal in combat, curious and fiercely loyal to his new friends. Like a barbarian type maybe, with scraps of cloth and metal for his clothing/armor and weapons, Orc that is a wasteland blacksmith An enslaved feral dragon used as a transport for thier goods, maybe even a bulette that is being used as a pack mule A gargantuan sand worm being used as a mobile shop Shop owner is a tinkering crazed gnome Gyro copter type transport designed by the crazed gnome tinkerer Weapons and armor have alternative chitin options due to there being a lack of good metal to make weapons in this area. Feral goblins, bugbears, drakes Large desert dragon/wyvern nesting in the skull of a terraasque A dragon that is ancient and crazed that is adorned with pieces of the skeletons of its defeated rivals A wasteland cadaver collector that's rusted and malfunctioning, it's master long since dead Desert necromancer/mage all rags and rage
E. Howell
2021-10-20 20:09:08 +0000 UTCA sketch for trappers/hybrids in an alternative Primordial Australia/NewZealand. Roo warriors, koala shaman, echidna swarm, indigenous warriors, (boomerang and other ancient weapon possibilities) Tasmanian tigers, giant cassowary riders... Might have been done before, doesn't mean it can't be done better!
Jeff Pelletier
2021-10-20 19:59:19 +0000 UTCOkey, as some might have said gliders/windsurfing on the sand. Giant camels waking the desert where people build makeshift shade on. Always landsharks and killer ostrich like in jumanji. Criminals working hamsterwheels like those in catapults, to drive makeshift vehicles.
Morten Frederiksen
2021-10-20 19:55:54 +0000 UTCI’m thinking a medieval style tank. A large wagon, heavily armored with armor plates and spikes. A large ox type beast up front pulling and a ballista mounted to the back of the wagon.
Richard Orwin
2021-10-20 19:40:26 +0000 UTCCause I always have D&D in mind for my minis - what about a druid who's right at home in this wasteland as opposed to a reluctant survivor? I feel like most people think of druids as having an affinity with forests/greenery/etc., but they just have an affinity with nature, and even a barren, unforgiving hellscape desert is nature. Shape the sand, speak to rattlesnakes and steppe-runners, call some dust devils, entangle with pointy desert flora, etc. I feel like this take is only ever relegated to "Arabian Nights" themes and you could do something kinda unique with it here instead. Just thinking while I type :)
2021-10-20 19:36:20 +0000 UTCI think the best and maybe the only good answer to this is Lycanthropy of several kinds or types, ie... Were-bear, Were-gator, Were-elephant, Were-tiger, Were-Orca ect.. I don't think you'd ever want nor be able to trust a murderous, traitorous, back-stabbing criminal but someone who could not control himself or herself due to Lycanthropy should be allowed to continue helping society by allowing them to this opportunity. Plus the "Geas Spells" will still work while they're in their transformed state so that is a huge help especially if they want to be there doing what good they can. I think this would be an awesome idea if executed properly.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge
2021-10-20 19:24:21 +0000 UTCThe gnoll with a muzzle amd some sort of rust/corrosion dragon sound awesome
The Dragon Trappers Lodge
2021-10-20 19:23:45 +0000 UTCFor some reason, this makes me think of the new game coming out where they took Tiny Tina from Borderlands and made a D&D game. Maybe a take on Borderlands type characters in a fantasy environment?
bojesphob
2021-10-20 19:21:20 +0000 UTCMaybe a 'mad mage' or wizard (thinking like Sirius Black) with some sort of desert creature familiar. Also some of the monsters in this set could actually be the jailers/wardens for the trappers like orcs or gnolls with cages, prods, etc.
Travis
2021-10-20 19:21:00 +0000 UTCMimic mounts/vehicles? That’s kinda awesome.
The Dragon Trappers Lodge
2021-10-20 19:20:47 +0000 UTCWe need a Master/Blaster type trapper. Maybe a Goblin paired with an ogre . Or a gnome with a goliath.
Plus Three Anvil
2021-10-20 19:17:20 +0000 UTCNot particularly interested in a lodge run by sadists but a lodge for working off prison sentences _without_ the cenobite wardens sounds pretty interesting. Higher risk tactics could be used, such as pursuit hunting, traps in tight confines - potion-throwing grenadiers sounds like a good idea too. What about someone manning a wooden decoy basilisk or behir to try and lure in a live one with either mating dances or rival displays?
Gregory Morris
2021-10-20 19:10:58 +0000 UTCOk, I‘ve got a few ideas. 1) A very fast Gnoll Trapper who‘s intent on running down his targets. He received a Mad Max style mouthguard to stop him from biting his fellow Trappers, but he‘s allowed to take it off when hunting. 2) An insane artificer who calls themselves „The Saint of Nails“. They have killed multiple congregations in an attempt to make them their worshippers. The Saint of Nails wears a long trenchcoat, has their hair braided with large iron nails, and possesses a pair of massive metal wings made of a large amount of nails of varying sizes. At the will of the Saint, every moment of these wings can release these nails and send them hurtling either in a direction or plummeting straight down. The saint also carries a holster of dagger-sized nails on their hip for melee combat and likes nailing their enemies to objects (or the other way around). 3) The Great Corroder: The reason the wasteland is so dangerous. A terrestrial dragon that breathes a corrosive haze and renders weapons and armor useless, usually greatly injuring their wearers by melting away their skin. Due to its corrosive breath, it has no teeth but instead a large, scarred beak full of indents and corrosion marks. Hit and run tactics are advised facing this beast. It also likes to lay in the corroded scrap, forming a sort of natural armor of half-destroyed metal over time. It is said that the Corroders are what ruined an ancient civilisation by reducing all their cities to the sand that now makes up the wasteland.

2021-10-20 19:10:27 +0000 UTCJunkyard car mimic. With stationary and action variants
Tori Roz
2021-10-20 19:08:17 +0000 UTCI have seen a model like this before somewhere on etsy, but some sort of giant spiked wheel with a platform in the middle. The wheel could be powered by a bunch of four legged lizard things running inside of it. The platform in the middle could have ballista turrets? Also, seperate thought, armored velociraptor mounts.
2021-10-20 19:05:07 +0000 UTCNo rubber or glass. Could still have medieval war “cars” or “motorcycles”. Just no modern rocket launchers or machine guns.
The Dragon Trappers Lodge
2021-10-20 19:02:50 +0000 UTCI guess like...some interesting desert vehicles using sails to pull them instead of engines could work. Like large dragon wings that were cut off and used as wind-catchers to pull larger vehicles, and smaller sails on surfboard type things could be used to skate across the wastes. Or the kind of solar sails they use in Treasure Planet...but that's more modern.
Joshua Harris
2021-10-20 18:55:25 +0000 UTCYeah...it's kind of hard to put vehicles in without modern tech? They kind of rely on that no?
Joshua Harris
2021-10-20 18:53:10 +0000 UTCWe can still do a medieval take on motorcycles. Just no rubber.
The Dragon Trappers Lodge
2021-10-20 18:52:57 +0000 UTCI'm a wee bit disappointed there will be a lack of modern-ish tech. Dragons and wasteland motorcycles would have been EPIC.
Kythera of Anevern
2021-10-20 18:50:48 +0000 UTCAlso, gnolls have a feral, ravenous energy that would really lend a lot of crazy to the setting while meshing with D&D well. I'm imagining a tiny dune buggy made of bones and chains with a trio of Gnolls swinging their crude weapons around while hanging off of it.
2021-10-20 18:50:17 +0000 UTCIt would rule to see some orcs and goblins from you guys and greenskins are notoriously unscrupulous.
Ryder Frankle
2021-10-20 18:48:36 +0000 UTCI’m imagining a warden that looks like Saxton Hale from TF2
2021-10-20 18:47:52 +0000 UTCI'm looking at the Mad Max aesthetician with some Dark Sun vibes.
John Weyen
2021-10-20 18:44:54 +0000 UTCI'd love to see a deadly subterranean worm creature like the monster from Tremors. Maybe sand sharks too.
2021-10-20 18:44:04 +0000 UTCHell, the Red Elvises as bowling league backup band would kick ass, too 😎

2021-10-20 18:40:17 +0000 UTCSo happy this theme won! Would love to see some borderlands-esque monsters, like Skag, Rakk, and Spiderant inspired monstrosities
