Arctic Trappers Suggestion Post

The results are in and it looks like the Arctic trappers will finally be coming for December! We are so excited! Now it is time to hear your suggestions on what kid of models you want to see. There is really two separate directions we are considering going with this. One is a Primal/inuit inspired arctic set, mammoth's, sabertooth, whooly rhino inspired creatures and monsters, an Inuit druid with various wild shape forms, or a more Christmas themed set. Perhaps a rugged Santa inspired trapper, Krampus, present mimics. Maybe a reindeer dragon that hordes presents instead of treasure, Goblin helpers, animated toys, gingerbread golems? What do you guys think? We want to hear all of your craziest ideas. There is no guarantee we will use your idea but if you're lucky you may see it in the December set!

Comments

No Santa stuff please. Let's go with Wooly Rhino, Mammoth, Walrus, etc..

Glitterwolf

Primar/Inuit pls Arctic Dragonfox/Ermine , Puffin Mounts .

Jumping off of this, maybe a selkie warrior.

Walrusfolk (walrus people)

Ice Golem/Ice Elemental

An ambush predator in the snow (like an angler fish on land hiding in deep snow)

Primal/Inuit please!

Rob

Primal / Inuit theme, please!

GBoswell

Primal / Inuit theme, please! Love the ideas you’ve had. Also consider a large walrus - I remember vividly (though perhaps erroneously) a giant-sized walrus in the 70s movie Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. Ooh, and taking inspiration from that, maybe the one-horned “troglodyte” giant?

How about a Nordic style Frost Giant wrestling a Mammoth to the ground... or Bubble Gum blowing dragon laying on his pile of christmas presents.. :)

Saber-tooth mount. Polar bear warrior.

Kate O'Neil

How about a polar bear and walrus minotaur? Maybe a Penguin dragon? Yeah, a Penguin Dragon, that would be both hilarious AND awesome!

bojesphob

Technically, the name "penguin" comes from the dutch name for the great auk, a puffin relative that was ecologically identical to modern penguins. They went extinct because they were too delicious

Alice

The sealtaur. A seal griffon. A were seal! An inuit selkie!

Alice

A sealtaur. Half man, half seal.

Alice

Cold water griffon. A combination polar bear and penguin, unlike most griffons this boy is a swimmer not a flyer.

Alice

Tbh, honest I'd go all in primal its a much better theme overall and much more useable in non-christmas situations. I do however feel there should be one mini in the set to pay homage to the jolly fat man. Some sort of Santa or Krampus mini.

I'd lean Primal. Something something Seal.

Vinnie Simonetti

I'd also prefer Primal over Christmas. It's just more universal, as in you can display it not just in one season. Of course, I wouldn't mind a small Christmas surprise :)

Yes I am standing behind you in the crowd trying to get a "PEN-GUIN HE-RO" chant started

Brian Gleine

Please no Christmas-themed stuff.

Harry Colquhoun

An Arctic wendigo would be awesome. Whale dragon or whale folk. Orca Dragon? Penguin Mount? Penguin folk. I know antarctic is for penguins...

Roddy Novogradac

Primal. Would love to see some walrus people. I see a lot of others requesting penguins, but those are at the south pole not the north...

miked0227

Primal - Some type of ancient dragon/greenland shark hybrid. Giant penguin beastmen. Walrus/snow lynx/puffin chimera? moose-narwal unicorn? Polar bear-Killer whale mermaid? Go weird! The otherworldly creatures are what attracted me to DTL originally...

Everytime I've seen Arctic themes, Inuits get the sole focus ignoring all the other Arctic Nations to the east of Alaska , as someone descended from the Mi'k Maq Nations of Nova Scotia its very disappointing we get no representation unless someone's debating which Europeans got here first. Keep in mind there's much more than one Tribal Cultural that calls the Arctic home designing this release. I get some Tribes have a popularity boost by being the top five types seen in movies but a little extra research especially with our own unique set of God's, Cryptids, and Legendary Hero's on the North East Coast that'll do nothing but inspire some great minis.

House Hendoe

I'd like to vote for the Lost World angle over the supernatural christmas angle also. Leopard seals, demonic penguins (something like an imp in a tuxedo), perhaps some kind of cold-water sea bug, like a lobster but bigger and covered in layers of briny ice armour?

Gregory Morris

Primal for me as well, and I'll reiterate what I mentioned on the poll, a humanoid yeti trapper would be awesome, or some kind of wooly rhino, mammoth beast person. Or a narwhal-esque ogre of some kind! So many cool possibilities.

Rozaline

Primal would be a great choice, steer clear of the bears though. Were-Moose, wendigo, sled dogs, orca-dragon (super thick, low to the ground with a fat killer whale head is where my imagination of it goes), boat attached to a whales head.

Primal. I don’t celebrate Christmas so everytime I get hit with an xmas set, it feels lost on me. I still wouldn’t mind like a couple of minis to be the xmas theme, a santa trapper, krampus, and a reindeer dragon could look amazing and not be overtly xmas, to do something for the holiday, but I love ice age themes.

Clara Drake

primal please

so for trappers, I think it is EXTREMELY fitting for a Polar Bear Trapper. For monsters I'd love to see like an orca big monster.

Inazumathelightning

Primal/Inuit please

Joy Doner

Christmas inspired !

Plus Three Anvil

Either way can't go wrong with penguins

Primal/inuit

MB

Primal

Savage Land Miniatures

I must be one of the only ones, but a Yule/Christmas themed set would be phenomenal. I've always wanted a "War in Christmas Village" style set of minis that was well done, and my D&D group did a one-shot that was Christmas-flavored, and y'all's sculpts would kick it up a notch next time we do it!

Dustan Archer

Humanoid snow leopard as a character

Saber tooth tigers are cool, mammoths are a bit overdone, a wooly rhino is awesome though. Penguin Aarakokra could be interesting. Another really cool mount option would be Musk Ox. Whales and seals/walrus would be really cool. Some other ice age creatures that are lesser used would be great, giant sloths, elasmotherium, glyptodon

This. Seals, walrus, whales

What about leopard seals as another less common arctic creature!

Overread

I'd definitely favor the Inuit theme. A lot of great fauna to draw inspiration from; arctic foxes, belugas, yaks, and snowy owls. I kind of love the idea of a narwhal dragon, but I'd wonder about the integrity of the horn. Maybe some were-sabertooths or were-caribou? Some kind of Ice spirit/elemental?

Travis McGruder

Oooh definitely the Primal/inuit!

William Fuller

An armoured werebear would be great!

Sean McInnes

Frosty the greater ice elemental!

Sean McInnes

Maybe mix a couple holiday themed models in with the release, but mostly the Inuit style!

Joshua Harris

Definitely would prefer the primal theme. Christmas sets have already been done by everyone else. I would love to see some kind of predatory leopard seal like monster in your set

Polarbear killerwhales artic theme

Morten Frederiksen

Please, no Christmas theme.

I know some people don't want an animated snowman, but what about a giant snowball golem? Just a giant snowball with legs, arms, and a head. Maybe the snowball contains random bits and bobbles of the gear from trappers its rolled over through the years

I would love for you to take inspiration from the Subnautica Below Zero's alien fauna. Need some Penglings in my life. Also, the nightmare fuel that is the Antarctic scale worm would be interesting.

Inuit please! Maybe some of the Sámi people too, if you’d like to work reindeer into the release without going full Christmas

ErisTheMenace

Omg inkushuk golem is an amazing idea

Rae Farley

Inuit!! Please!! I would love me an arctic owlbear

Rae Farley

100% primal/inuit but with a nice reindeer or seal dragon

Julien Le Pipec

Primal/Inuit for sure. I'd love to see some things inspired by or including the very graphic Inuit art.

Treebeard

Please do the mega fauna thing. Krampus is always welcome and love the idea of the Caribou dragon

Would much rather prefer strictly arctic and not holiday themed. Walrus man trapper, Narwhal Dragon, Polar Bear hunting companion, Leopard Seal Mount, Inuit trappers, Polar Bear man trapper, Mammoth Lodge

cadenheadr04

I need to add an akhlut or the nanook would be beyond cool!

Justin Hudechek

Primal for sure! love the idea of sabertooth and mammoth inspiration. Maybe creatures inspired by a concept like "True Frost" or "Perma Frost". And I don't really have a visual idea for any trappers, but i like the sound of an Arctic OPs team.

Daniel Burnworth

I really, really, want that walrus dragon you keep teasing! Sabertooths would also be amazing, maybe even sabertooth cat-people? I'm leaning away from the Christmas themes, mainly because while I'm sure you'd do an awesome job, primal/Inuit is just an awesome combo that isn't done as often. Maybe a reindeer sled that's only Christmassy by association. 😉

I might be in the minority here, but I personally don’t have too much use for holiday themed minis. I largely use my files to print minis for 5e, and I can’t imagine a situation with any of my groups or campaigns where I’d use holiday themed monsters.

giveneausername

Primal all day. Novelty Christmas minis belong on Thingiverse.

Figure Forge

Inuit cause WALRUS DRAGON! Also you could do cool cryptid style stuff like Qalupalik, Kikituk, or Amautalik. But seals, killer whales, Moose, caribou as monsters would all be legit!

Justin Hudechek

Primal is the way to go

Polar bears and ice dragon would suit my games.

Solinity

Sabertooth would be cool, but I am all about the Ice Dragon.

Primal. I'd really love to see a dragon based on totem carvings and such instead of just a flavor of the theme.

really love the notion of a primal/inuit influence and really hate the notion of a christmas theme.

s.j. bagley

Vote for primal from me

BBEG Minis

I like primal more myself, but the Christmas one is unique and fun. I'm more likely to print the primal one up, I'd say. Then again, if you do Christmas then snow men would be awesome. If you had snowmen throwing snowballs that'd be especially cool and I might have to scrap all my plans for an African kings of war northern alliance army and instead do an ice elemental northern alliance army.

fwiw - Inuit / Primal is my preference.

defo the primal set

Anthony Charlton

Walrus dragon please!!!!!

Seeeet

stray

definitely the primal set. An Ice Dragon sounds really ... cool!

Inukshuk Golem, Giant Walrus with an Igloo/Ice Hut on his back, Santa trapper with reindeer-dragon mount, homicidal christmas elves, Polar Bear-Narwhal hippocampus.

Darren

I'd love to see the inuit style. The classic American stuff yall had on the frontier set was amazing and inspiring. I'd like to see that in the Inuit style as well

Inuit/Primal vote here

Inuit/primal with snow covered pine treants. Snow biome goblins, ice elemental giant, Nidhogg type dragon (scales, fur, winged, large antlers on it's head)

Jeff

Christmas inspired- •“Santa’s” workshop lodge •Santa themed trapper •Gnome & Goblin “helpers” armed with candy cane swords, and cookie shields# •Reindeer Dragon pulling a sleigh •Krampus goblin leading some tribal yetis •Yetis with spears, & clubs •Mimic Presents •Ice sorceress •clockwork golem made of toy parts

Argh, both sound so amazing but I've godt to go with an inuit theme. Beasts from Thule culture like the igalilik, aasik and kaliffak along with shaman and Hunter/Fisher trappers and the like would be sooo cool!

Linnea Juul Sten

Definitely Inuit, I feel like I've seen Christmas themed ones a million times before.

Ciza161

I vote for the primal set. I'm always on the lookout for arctic beasts that could populate an icy land, and there are few of these to go around.

Christmas!!!!

Dwayne Hinton

Honestly, I would love to see both sets eventually. I love the idea of the Inuit inspired creatures, potentially a killer whale styled dragon or leviathan? A wendigo would be really cool to see as well. But also you had me at christmas present mimics. . . Maybe a menora golem for those who celebrate hannukah?

PNDMike

Primal please!

No Christmas, I want something I can use. We have waited long enough for Arctic trappers...keep the cutest Xmas stuff for next year in December, give me all the Inuit all the way, throw in some walrus, narwal, wooly rhino, yeti etc.

Michael Abraham

I vote primal inspired. Ice dragon sounds fun. That said you could have reindeer with a Lapland inspired trapper. I'm just not feeling the holiday overlay.

Jaelynn Bright

WALRUS DRAGON!!!!

Julianne Edwards

Inuit and primal

Nick Adegite

If this had come up any other month I’d want the first choice, but my heart is ready to grow three sizes while painting present mimics.

Ericka

Inuit would be really cool, maybe with a narwhal mount?

Bas Vermeyden

The krampus idea sounds neat. A Holly Jolly Hodag?

Daniel Hamilton

The gingerbread golem and golblin helpers sounds amazing

Inuit/primal sounds amazing!

Definitely Santa, krampus & goblins
