Frontier Trappers Suggestions

Hello Fellow Trappers!

It looks like the August set has been decided and the results are the Frontier Trappers. So what would you like to see in this set? Here are some of the ideas we have, Frontiersman with buckskin and a coon skin hat ridding a buffalo creature mount (guy on a buffalo anyone?). Navadi Native American/european dryad inspired druid character or ranger. Legendary white moose monster? The king of jackalopes? What sort of dragon would you like to see? What trappers? What about the medium sized creatures? Some members of our team really want to see something with a beaver, any ideas? Please be respectful with your suggestions and keep in mind that just because you make suggestion doesn't mean we will use it. We love to hear your ideas and if you're lucky it may just make it into the release.

May your blades stay sharp and your flesh on your bones!

I just ran across a super cool one from the Great Lakes. Mishipetsu, an aquatic Lynx whose enemy is the Thunderbirds.

I love this idea. Medusa in Jason and the Argonauts from 1963 had a rattle on its tail. One of the coolest scenes I ever saw. Love to see that on a hydra.

Unleash the Goosatrice! The Seal-Mermaid! The jackalope's scarier cousin: the Squirrelk!

W.L

I really like the idea of mixing some modern animals like a beaver or buffalo and some prehistoric extinct creatures or other things like you mentioned.

Nathan Gabriel

I like this idea a lot, it could be really visually interesting

Nathan Gabriel

I kinda secretly hope that there is just like a regular horse mount. Not enough people make just plain horses.

some ideas: A beaver crossed with some extinct North American megafauna: beaver/glyptodon (armadillo ancestor) or beaver/giant sloth. An opossum/skunk/porcupine variant

Some Native American themed Aarakocra would go well

Mathew Child

I wouldn’t hate a blue bull ala Paul Bunyon

Those ideas sound awesome

Johnny Appleseed the Druid is an amazing idea!!!

Darren

First Nations peoples as various trappers for sure! Maybe some myths and frontier folk tales as well, like Kokopelli the hunchbacked bard, Paul Bunyan wielding an axe + his trusty buddy Babe the Blue Ox, John Henry the artificer, Calamity Jane the sharpshooter, or Johnny Appleseed the druid, etc. For a dragon maybe go with the Lakota's Unhcegila?

ErisTheMenace

A rattlesnake hydra could be cool

Lucas Keeton

Another I would love to see is an elf riding a grizzly bear, but not upright. More like lying down on its back so it looks like the elf is in partnership with the bear, not riding it like a horse.

Brown in Back to the Future 3.

Another good one would be a mad scientist type with a sniper rifle. Like Doc

Oops. Didn't know enter would post. Let me try that again. A Trapper I would like to see is a former Civil War soldier (ala John Carter). Another good one would be a gunslinger aka quickdraw artist. How about a frontiersman wearing buckskin and firing a Henry Repeating rifle (open in cocking position). For a Dragon, how about a Grizzly Bear with dragon wings. Just a few ideas.

I have a few ideas.

Characters resembling Firefly or Fallout NV riding giant lizards

Conrad

A chimera of grizzly bear, rattlesnake, and bighorn sheep/elk?

chronolizzard

yes, that is awesome! small in size but ferocious in nature.

Nathan Gabriel

Reading everything that people are posting here I definitely think the buffalo idea would be a really kool mount you could mix elements of that with the beast like size and appearance of the mud horn from mandalorian, I think they would meld well together and make an excellent large sized beast mount or maybe carry the party's gear and such.

Nathan Gabriel

I'd love to see that, but perhaps for a different set. (Not that there's really any shortage of giant worm STLs out there, but I have an abiding love of all things Dune-related.)

JK

First of all, never saw the ‘Guy on a Buffalo’ video, WOW! For a dragon, I like a thunderbird inspired creature, as people have mentioned. How about a totem pole golem? Perhaps one where each piece is a different golem that can Voltron (combine) into a massive golem? I like the idea of a MASSIVE beaver, with a dam/howdah. Perhaps called a ‘Dam-lord’? And we definitely need a ‘Beaver swarm’. The only swarm that leaves construction in its wake. Also some lil single beavers, for base fodder.

KingWiku

Maybe a giant sandworm of some sorts, like something out of Tremors or Dune

Joe Chisholm

Wow these are some cool ideas but a lot of them are more southwest than northern frontier. Hold on to them in case we do a more southwest desert theme.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

I can't believe nobody has suggested the sabertoothed moose lion yet. smh.

Alice

p.s. https://coyoteandcrow.net/

Piecemakers

Could we please have some First Nation trappers? Culturally-informed and non-Tanto. Coyote & Crow is coming out in a few months, and it's a great time to represent this mythos honestly. 🤩🤘🏼

Piecemakers

A small and furry woodland critter known as the Draccoon ?

Mikael Kjellgren

Swan dragon would also be cool

Jeff Abandonato

Hehe, lumberjack Sasquatch trapper with the living hair someone else mentioned or maybe he has creatures living in his beard and a pet dire beaver

Nathan Gabriel

I really like the Sasquatch idea here too, that could be really interesting addition to creatures or even character

Nathan Gabriel

The eagle dragon sounds really neat

Nathan Gabriel

I like the Coon Skin cap. Dire Beaver sounds good too. Maybe a lumberjack... (Can't stop thinking of Paul Bunyan & Babe the Big Blue Ox). Or a 49er prospector type trapper. How about a Native American trapper? - This is my favorite idea.

Treebeard

Adding my voice to Thunderbird (perhaps bald eagle-inspired?) and wendigo! A trickster coyote creature could be an interesting concept to look at, too.

Amanda Winter

I would absolutely LOVE a dire beaver as a medium monster, or an alternative mount. Guy on a Buffalo-o-o is excellent as well!

+1 Lunacy "Prairie dog halfling scout or rogue"

Jeremy Medon

Native American Totem stylized art dragon! Like a Native American village protector golem!

Jeremy Medon

I want to see a coyote trapper on some sort of thunderbird/stormcrow.

Bison men, terror/thunder birds, sasquatches, werejackalope/wendigo, beaver dragon or bobcat dragon. Also, totem poles and leather tents are underrated!

I would be interested in a part wendigo trapper of some kind, a sphinx cat trapper, and perhaps an eagle-themed dragon or mount.

Mathew Child

I want a bearded fighter that has a sentient beard that is forming a fist as if punching an enemy. Or hold a wood chopping axe. Or both

a bison minotaur someone with a lasso for a weapon would be my number one though.

Two words: giant beavers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castoroides

Kate O'Neil

Alrighty, here's a few ideas for ya. A massive Dragon similar to a "Winged Bearded Dragon". Also: Cheyenne Indian Ranger, Evil Head Hunting Apache, Demonic Comanche, Other tribes riding Bison, Grizzly Bears, and Moose. An Angelic Bald Eagle and a Fallen Angelic/Demonic Golden Eagle. A Giant Earth Element Stone Armadillo and a Huge Quill firing porcupine. A Druidic Bigfoot and a Barbaric Sasquatch would make a great team. Awesomeness galore.

Ramiro Carrasco Jr.

Canadian goose dragon. For sure.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

uuuh what?

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

goose dragon all the way

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

goose dragon

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

that is a cool idea

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

well I hate to break it to you but we want go crazy with beavers.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Iroquois Elf hunter-trapper with musket, Franco-Creole Orc trapper with hatchet and pistol, Seminole dwarf with magic javelins, Bobcat-drake with tufted ears and raked-back horns, a furry torso, and flying-squirrel styled wings, copperhead/cottonmouth dragon with narrow snout and wide jaw cross-section, long neck, and a coiled pose, OR catfish-dragon with sleek skin, long droopy barbels, and a fat paunch (since he's a carrion-eating omnivore, obviously), and a Jersey-Devil style demon-monster

Gregory Morris

pretty south western instead of northern frontier

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

thunder bird is cool. Being pretty tempted by a Canadian goose dragon right now though.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

goose dragon? somethins a brewing now

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

A feathered dragon crossed with the thunder bird Wendigo based Jackalopes. Little skeletal things who attack in hearts to devour flesh. I love the idea of the Basileaver the Basilisk Beaver combo. The Woodsman like hairy apes who grow plants in their fur and wield large stone axes. Think a cross between Bigfoot, Lumberjack, and a hint of Ent/Dryad for the plant growth. The Great Rock Snake, large Rattlesnake like creatures who scales are like/made of stone, the rattles would be from boulders to pebbles on the end of their tails...excellent for warning and for clubbing enemies and prey. The Dust Devils, what happens when you cross an armadillo and a bat? You get a strange, and terrifying creature is what. These unique beings are able to dig into the hardest of soil like a hot knife into warm butter, but also have an unique ability. They can pop out at speed and roll into a hard ball, while traveling like a living wrecking ball, they can bounce into the air and unfurl hidden skin flaps to sorta fly glide away at high speeds. This often causes a high wind stirring up the soil into massive dust devils that reach to the skys, which is the name sake the creatures are called after. For Hunters. I would love to see a Crow Kenku medicine man/healer A Prarie Dog Halfling scout or rogue. The Bison Rider would be interesting. This one being the ranged unit on top for the Bison like creature would be an excellent choice. Like a horse archer only a lot more dangerous if the Bison charges. A Desert Tortoise based Tortle Tank of some sort would be a good fit for the theme as well.

Lunacy

rattlesnake is pretty cool. Buffalo would be cool too. Wolves area possibility but we've done one before.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

probably will pass on the wending. It is pretty overdone

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Cobra chicken!

John Weyen

Bigfoot trapper?

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Goose dragon!

John Weyen

Would still like it to be a dragon but maybe.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

wending dragon? maaaaybe.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Honestly there are a lot of wending models out there. Seems a little vanilla for dragon trappers lodge.

The Dragon Trappers Lodge

Wendigo!!!

Sean McInnes

You definitely need some sort of goose beast/dragon... a trapper would work too, but seeing a giant goose beast would be great.

A crystaline or ice golem/elemental would be great as well as some sort of yeti/sasquatch ranger.

OMG I NEED A LITTLE RACCOON ROGUE

Jamie

Big Ooooool' Rattledrake

Lisa V

A kenku / crow kin adventurer would be a fun way to play with the Raven trickster that appears in a number of Native American traditions

Jamie

So long as you guys are respectful of the cultures, I'll love whatever you put out!

EldritchBee

Definitely some Moositaurs or even Bison Minotaurs. I am tellin ya, I honestly see a massive wolf dragon with feathers and fur working out nicely. Bearfolk, Beaver mounts or red squirrel type mounts..

WardensForgeCreations

Dragon Guardian on/around an inukshuk

K Vector

Beavers and Moose are in the frontier... How about a take on a Giant Moose Beaver hybrid steed?

Michael Abraham

Oh and definitely Bearfolk! Cave dragon could be cool

Acalagus

Wendigos and the thunder bird of native American lore

Anyone suggested the Flying Head yet?

JK

The jackalope king would be a must for me 😁 also a dragon inspired to nitive American spirituality would be great! And some steampunk cowboy or so...

Moose of Buffalo minotaur trapper Dire Beaver mount Love the Piasa Dragon, Wendigo, Skinwalker, and pukwudgies suggestions Some manner of trickster diety, or perhaps a tricksy looking Raven aarakocra, or anthro coyote trapper. and now that i had the though I will never stop advocating for Displacer Beast/Goose, the Displacer Geese! Any trappers inspired by Daniel Boone, Jim Bowie, Davey Crockett, Paul Bunyan, and definitely Native American trappers as long it it did not fall into sterotype/caricature.

Darren

Piasa Bird is a Native American "Dragon" that would fit nicely in this set

Sable dragon? That’d be cool to see, a long fuck covered weasel of death

Displacer Beast/Goose... Displacer Geese. It's the stuff of nightmares.

Darren

Pukwudgie Trapper, Azeban NPC and Piasa Dragon

Bison mount. Beaver man. Jackalope or goose horror monster. Moose minotaur. Avian dragon inspired in the thunderbird (or also canadian goose dragon haha)

wendigo and a goose.... or a Wendigoose?

Darren

Jackelopes, maybe a Wendigo, some bison and beavers, orcas too. Gotta have a Canadian goose monster in there

Seconded.

Shaun Mayne

I came here to suggest this too 😆

Angela Basset

Jackelope riding halflings or raccoon style goblin-like rogues

Pyromancy

Would absolutely LOVE a tribe of indigenous bison minotaurs!!! Think a Thunderbird dragon or jackalope dragon would be cool. And I really like the idea of a giant moose monster, maybe with a bit of grizzly thrown into it?? A really cool elk or pronghorn mount would be awesome!!

But quetzalcoatl would be more jungle, wouldn't it?

Stick an orca dragon somewhere and I'll be happy, though I wouldn't mind a cute arctic fox cerebrus. Though we already have the horror that is the cobra bird, aka the Canadian goose, maybe you could make it scarier somehow.

Oixys

A dragon/thunderbird hybrid would be cool. Also Wendigos

SNIPE! We can't come out of this without being able to run a camping-based snipe hunt! [Honestly, I'd also be okay if it was just an empty zip file labeled "Snipe".]

Remy LeBeau

plus worm ppl from the horror movie the burrowers would be nifty. Theres a whole bunch of americas folk lore you could pull from

Acalagus

your take on on the wendigo or skin walker would be neat. Also could be cool to see a quetzalcoatl

Acalagus

Dire Beaver, the Piasa, skinwalkers, were Buffalo or Buffalo minotaur

Nicholas Boutwell

Just had a little look into North American dragon myths and this one should get your juices flowing: Amhuluk is said to live near Forkend Mountain in Oregon, where the Native Americans saw this creature with great fear. One story accounts how Amhuluk impaled two of three children on its horns and took them into the enchanted waters that it was named after. The father visited these children, and for five days they appeared by the water. However, afterward, they disappeared and remained with Amhuluk. Many believe that this dragon's passion is to catch and drown all things. This serpent is said to go through transformations as well, each time becoming more and more formidable. Amhuluk is a bogey, something to scare off children from the water.

Oooo a bark dragon would be rad!

Justin Hudechek

In would be happy with a feral racoon monster to!

Justin Hudechek

Racoon monster, A weasel/otter type creature, maybe a catamundi?

Justin Hudechek

I'd love to see some sort of bighorn or bison minotaur!

Mingi Webber

A lot of indigenous tales involve some sort of trickster (crow, coyote, rabbit), so something along those lines or possibly some sort of shapeshifter.

Travis

Iconic western US animals would be the buffalo, pronghorn antelope, elk, moose, wolves, grizzly bears, beavers and big horn sheep. Maybe a bighorn humanoid race? Or maybe a bald eagle aarakocra (but I know you did an aarakocra with the Egyptian theme). As far as mythological creatures you have the jackalope, the wendigo, the hodag , flathead lake monster, Miniwashitu, and bigfoot

miked0227

Wendigo would be amazing, Thunderbird style dragon and a dire beaver mount would be hilariously amazing.

Native American/North American monster word dump activated! Bigfoot, thunderbirds, Lechuza (monster owl women), Flathead Lake monster (think Nessie), Ogopogo, woolly mammoths, Katshtuashku, Piasa Bird, skin-walkers (Ooo it would be cool to get one mid transformation), Uktena, wendigo, wechuge, yeti, chupacabra, pukwudgies (quill covered goblins), Gowrow, Jackalope...

Would love to see a buffalo mount and some Native American inspired hunters, especially the tribes from the great plains region. A wendigo would be an awesome monster, but I remember you mentioning a were-moose, or moose monster. As a Maine native I've got go with the Moose. For the dragon it would be neat to see a thunderbird style dragon. Part dragon, part giant bird/eagle beast.

Bison Minotaur would be really cool

ShogunLogan

I've got a couple ideas to throw your way from North America. A twist on Paul Bunyan and the blue ox. The Hodag, a horned and spined boar. The Piasa, a Native American dragon. The Rougarou, a French Canadian shapeshifter often associated with the werewolf.

Wendigo 💯 easy. Ogopogo would be dope, but maybe not what we are looking for. If you could do a Thunderbird and somehow tie in the way the native art depicts them, that would be sick. Like a living Native Art style depiction. Also, no need to get crazy with Beavers. They are cute, and their teeth have Iron in the enamel. Not much need to mess with perfection. Please, please consider a Trash Panda Adventurer.

Mount-sized jackalope! There's a statue in Wall Drug, South Dakota that I have fond memories of climbing on :)

A monstrous take the old roadrunner - coyote combo? Or a pair of competing trappers based on such?

Wendigo dragon and never basilisk sounds awesome!

What about a dragon themed after the Native American Thunderbird or the Mishipeshu

Raccoon folk trapper, please

Sequoia/Redwood giant tree dragon?

Dire Beaver, maybe mix it with a little flying squirrel some extra scary! Paul Bunyon and his blue bull (so lumberjack trapper!) Canadian Geese demon Giant moose. Nothing fantastical its dangerous enough! Bison mount for trapper Armadillo mount! Can roll up and ride! Rattlesnake wyvern Blink coyotes Thunderbird is always a good one Water panther Sasquatch

Jake Chappelle

You could use a rattle snake as a base for any reptiles. Wolves and Buffalo themed animals would make great mounts.

+1 for the Wendigo and the Beaver basalisk! And if you do the beaver basalisk please include a base detail or small terrain piece of a humanoid turned into wood.

Darren

Bigfoot?

American Thunderbird

cadenheadr04

What if instead of a dragon, you did a Native American Thunderbird?

I like the sound of this "King of Jackelopes" best/fellow!

Ryder Frankle

As a Canadian, I would already love something as simple as just a beaver posed atop a freshly-cut tree stump.

Beaver Basilisk - it turns victims into wood and uses them to make dams.

KarmaKassie

A wendigo monster would be amazing. Perhaps even an unearthly mix of Dragon and Wendigo?

Mikael Kjellgren

a wendigo please?
