New month ... NO new link sheet?!
Added 2022-08-01 23:27:20 +0000 UTCHey hey!
As the title says, I won't be generating new link sheets this month, as I didn't release much at all. In their places though, here's some updates.
Strap in for some story time hey, as i'm certain this'll be one that i'll be telling people for a while to come.
Storytime
A day after I released the Sokol video I had decided to have a nice, relaxing weekend of snowboarding to recharge. I'd never been before but it looks pleasant, calming and very enjoyable. I'm a big fan of extreme sports and this seemed right up my alley. I knew of a few friends who love it and were gonna go, so I tagged along with them.
In the process of learning this sport, I fell over ... a lot. On one of these occasions I heard and felt an audible crack in my side.
The pain, although strong, I felt to be manageable and likely a heavy bruise. I've broken many bones in my life and over time have developed quite a responsible and medically, scientifically advanced technique to verify whether a bone is broken or not, I call it ...
"The Whack Test".
A series of short yet firm, closed fist strikes against the suspected injury, if the pain doesn't go up dramatically then a bone is more than likely not broken.
After performing this whack test I decide it's best to continue snowboarding, which led me to become very well acquainted with the mountain due to more falls.
Day turns to night, and it's slightly difficult to sleep, I begin to suspect that the whack test failed me, and that I may have a minor fracture. I say to myself "If the pain gets worst I'll get it checked when I return home"
EDIT - To add a little humour into this, there was one moment in particular after that initial rib injury, where I remember falling on my side once more. It was a very gentle fall, I wasn't going too fast, and overall it would've looked like something that should not have caused any pain.
Due to the pre existing pain in my side though, the fall was excruciating, and I had begun sliding on my back down the mountain like a spinning starfish. The words "WHYYYY?!" loudly escaped my mouth along with groans. I had no intention of saying them, no control to not say them. And as this occurred a group of people all watching on at the very dramatic man who had fallen. hahah
A few days later I return home and swiftly develop a fever. I put on my medical jacket once more and begin to research online, fractured ribs. Much to my displeasure I learn that a dangerous symptom of fractured ribs could be fever, as not breathing correctly and avoiding coughs can result in pneumonia!!
I had been holding coughs back, I had been not breathing correctly. Fine, I'll go to the hospital.
Eventually i'm seen and scans are done ... and I wait. A nurse calls me over to follow her. As we walk down a corridor she asks me ...
Nurse: How does it feel to have covid with 5 broken ribs?
Me: Don't mess with me ...
Nurse : I'm not, it looks like you've been in a car accident and you came back covid positive, that's probably what the fever is.
Me: Stop it! I don't believe you, there's no bruising?!
The conversation goes on like this for a little until I get a glimpse of the CT scan results, and yep, 5 broken ribs with a cheeky side of Covid.
So that's my life update hey. A unique experience that's for sure. Not too sure what the lesson is so far, probably still learning it. But it must be an important one because covid + ribs have not been a winner combination hey.
Lots of laying around in the bed ...
Patreon Updates
Which leads me to the thoughts I had during my down time, about Patreon. Pricing in particular (fun conversation, one of my favourites).
I still feel as though asking for 5 dollars a month is not acceptable on my part, especially when months occur like the one passed and I'm unable to get a video to you.
So i'd love your thoughts and input on this one, it's an idea which cropped up from comments when I brought this up last time.
I could make another tier which is identical to the current true crime one, instead of 5 dollars a month though, I make it 2.50. That way if anyone wishes to continue to support on the 5 dollar one and you feel it's worthwhile you can continue to do so. And I would like to say that I do appreciate that, as Patreon is my main income now, I would not be doing any of this without any of you. Every little and large support is appreciated and I do not wish to make anyone feel as though what you put in is not respected. It very much is, I'm trying to find a balance which feels good to me, one where I am able to fully show you the respect you deserve for what you give to me.
So, with this cheaper true crime tier, if you still do wish to get the early access true crime, but money is tight, you don't feel 5 is worth it, or for whatever other reason you'd prefer drop back, you have the option to do so. But if you feel as though 5 dollars is not much of an ask, you also have the option to stay there.
I would eventually think of ways to bring more content to the higher 5 dollar tier and I do currently have some ideas, but for now the two would be identical.
So what are all your thoughts?
Current Work Update
And finally, here's an update on current works. The Lynlee Renick snake breeder murder trial is coming along well. I actually chose this one because I thought it would be a nice quick trial. 2 days of testimony and a straightforward narrative. How wrong I was, as the plot has thickened more than I could've imagined.
To start, it actually has 5 days of testimony, 3 were hidden from the main channel, and the narrative is anything but straightforward.
The defense and prosecution have very (in my opinion) convincing arguments and both have witnesses to boot!
It's been quite an interesting piece to work on, and it'll be even more interesting to figure out how to put it together in video format that flows and makes sense, building a singular cohesive story that shows the differences of each argument.
I would say that it'll more than likely be uploaded this weekend, possibly even earlier if I get a lot done in the next few days, and when that's done I'll be diving right into another true crime case.
Following that we'll have another notch in the Lorne saga.
And that's it from me. If you've gotten to the end of this novel, I thank you, and I hope you're doing very well as you read.
Take care of yourself
Dave
Comments
I think this is the first time that I've slightly regretted your baritone bravado as I chuckled at your recollection of spinning like a starfish! I couldn't help but imagine a scene from a Tex Avery cartoon! I do hope that you recover soon good sir. We will certainly survive while you attend to some much needed recuperation. Your content outweighs many true crime videos that seem both repetitive & brief. I can't imagine not living without your content to stimulate my brain cells! Your $5 tier is already gracious given how much time you take to perfect your videos! There's plenty of content from you to keep us satiated in the meantime and I whole heartedly agree that you letting us criminology fans out here know what's going on with you we can handle a much needed hiatus

I didn’t catch this update when you posted, I hope you’re feeling better already, sir. As for the Patreon tiers, if you recall, then you already know my thoughts. Simultaneously, I respect your sense of honor. Though, I wouldn’t be surprised if many people feel the same as I do. Your personality, writing, and voice are a source of entertainment as well as healing. You’re worth more than 5 dollars a month, so you’re giving us a bargain. As long as you communicate what’s happening, I don’t think many people will mind a “content-light” month.
