Fire Dragons of Okinja

The dragons of Okinja are majestic beasts. Unlike other dragons of the world, these dragons have no wings though they can still fly through the use of magic. The Fire Dragons like all the dragons of Okinja are greater dragons, meaning they are intelligent and capable of speech. Fire dragons are fiery charismatic creatures. Unlike almost all other dragons, Okinjen Fire Dragons do not have a breath attack. They have a much more spiritual conection with the elements and instead of creating fire in their throat they can shape the elements themselves, generating fire from their hands and body as the elements bend to their will. The inhabitants of Okinja view the dragons with awe and respect. While some fire dragons can be benevolent and wise other can be cruel and evil. Okinjen Fire Dragons can shapeshifter into other forms including that of humans. Evil fire dragons will use this to manipulate people and empires. It is important to be wary and on guard as trappers on Okinja could be interacting with a dragon at any time. The easiest way to defeat an Okinjen Fire Dragon is to trick them into turning into a human or some other animal and then casting a spell that prevents them from shape shifting. They can then be captured and dealt with in an appropriate manner. Keep in mind that Oknjen Dragons have a strong kinship with each other and if they feel one of their kind has been dealt with unjustly they will retaliate.

Jealousy Spirit

Jealousy Spirits are a particularly nasty type of spirit that can be found in Okinja. Spirits primarily reside in the spirit world and require mortal desire or thought to manifest in the material plane. Jealousy spirits appear when there is a strong presence of jealousy, often over money or status. The spirit has ten arms wielding swords and a pleasant mask portraying the niceties covering the raging jealousy underneath. Their material body is formed from a Tori gate that has been violated and a fur coat. Like most spirits they are resistant to magic. They are very quick and aggressive, striking out at anyone nearby. Luckily they have a weakness. All jealousy spirits are created with a coin in their mouth. If this coin is removed the spirit will be banished from the material plane. While these spirits are certainly a danger they are usually a sign of a larger problem within a community as it takes a lot for these spirits to manifest.

Grandmother Snow

Grandmother Snow despite her frail appearance is one of the best trappers at the Okinja Lodge. She is 376 years old and has learned a lot of tricks in her time. In fact she was the one who developed the tactic of trapping dragons in their human form. As a Kitsune she was familiar with shapeshifting magic and she developed a spell that could hold a creature in it's current from for a period of time. Her approach to dealing with problematic dragons almost never involves killing them and she instead prefers to persuade, negotiate, and listen. If they can't be reasoned with then she will result to tricks and deception. Just because she doesn't use an aggressive approach doesn't mean she isn't capable of defending herself. She is a powerful spell caster though that is something she likes to keep to herself unless needed. She is known as "grandmother" since she teaches the new recruits to the lodge and treats everyone as if they where her own children.

Glade

Glade is a Spirit Sika, They are the lesser cousins of the Kirin though still powerful and graceful. On one expedition to handle a difficult River Dragon that had been causing trouble, their party was stopped by a Spirit Sika that was blocking their way through a glade. There seemed to be no apparent reason why it would not let them pass other than to be beligerent. One of the party members attempted to get it to leave but he ended up flat on his back as a result. Before things could escalate Grandmother Snow stepped forward and scolded the Spirit Sika like you would a naughty a child. The deer seemed stunned at the assertive little Kitsune and let them pass. Glade would follow them from a distance curious about what they where doing. In the Village they where staying in the Spirit Sika charged in plowing into an old man but before he could be scolded again Grandmother Snow realized why. Spirit Sika are known for their ability to see the true form of creatures and this old man had been the River Dragon they had been seeking. Snow named the deer Glade after the place they had found him and he followed them back to the lodge. Now snow and Glade are inseparable.

Takuma

Takuma was always large even as a child. He joined the lodge after being caught cheating in a sumo match. He had been raised to compete at the top levels of Sumo fighting and the pressure had driven him to dishonor his name by greasing the mat before a match. He was young when he was banished from competing only 18 and he was disowned by his strict parents. It was Grandmother Snow who saw him and his value and took him in at the lodge. She saw that he was not dishonorable just desperate for approval. Often times the dragons causing trouble are small young dragons that are proud and unruly and haven't gained the foresight and wisdom that comes with age. These young dragons can't be reasoned with but the lodge does not want to kill them. That is where Takuma shines. His size and strength allows him to manhandle the younger dragons into submission without doing real harm and he is an adept fighter when needed.

Tengashi

Tengashi is a Felis samurai. While many samurai swear loyalty to a lord or Shogun, Tengsahi swore loyalty to Okinja itself. In the best case scenario dealing with a dragon, Tengashi never needs to draw his swords. Sometimes he does however. Often evil dragons will have agents serving beneath them doing their bidding. Tengashi makes short work of these evildoers using his dual wielded katanas. Tengashi is a man of few words and when he does speak his words are chosen carefully. He has only been with the lodge for a couple years but he already commands respect just with his mere presence. He is said to have no fear and if he does he never shows it. 

Kai

As an 18 year old felis, Kai is the youngest member of the Okinjen Lodge. He was raised in a monastery where he was trained as a monk destined to serve an evil cult. Determined to not live a life of servitude, Kai escaped the monastery and fled into the bamboo sea, a massive forest hundreds of miles wide. He knew nothing of life outside the monastery and quickly become lost in his flight from his oppressors. He was discovered by a fire dragon named Moyazu. She took pity on him and kept him safe. Moyazu could see the spark of fire in his soul and began to teach him how to shape flames a s a dragon did. Moyazu eventually sent him to Grandmother Snow, trusting that she would find a place for him at the lodge, which she did.
