The most important lessons I've learned from making YouTube videos

Well folks, I'm trying out posting a new exclusive video every month here, based on topics voted for by VIPs and above. This month's topic is a list of the most important things I've learned while being on YouTube, hopefully this can act as advice for anyone getting started or maybe just a little insight into what I've learned over my time doing this.

I have some plans for some more bits and pieces for the vault tier that I think will be fun, I talk a little about that at the end of the video.

Hope you enjoy!

Thank you 🙏🏻 I think over the last couple years it really has hit me that, chasing numbers or trying to make sure I don’t end up losing an audience is actually stopping me from making good stuff and enjoying this thing I’m lucky enough to be able to do. It makes so much more sense to me to just make the things that resonate with me and enjoy the process because one day I might not be able to. Thanks again for the kind words dude, truly does mean so much to hear 💚

Around the 11/12 minute mark where you’re explaining chasing creative freedom rather than just doing something for money and why not get a job at that point, is spot on. I myself follow you for that exact reason, you don’t know what you will get (to an extent) but we know it will have your deep level of analysis and research on said topic. That is something that I really enjoy listening to and someone that can articulate it because I can’t be assed to do the research and spend the time myself. I want the depth without putting in the hours and in a way you bridge that gap. As you said if one day nobody is around and you need a job then do that, but personally I think people are looking for escapes in videos the same way they do in tv shows or video games and your patreon followers aren’t going anywhere. At least for me I can say that is what I look for and why I enjoy all of your content not just old school AC stuff which is how I found your channel. My favourite video of yours recently apart from the AC4 retro was being homesick for a place you haven’t been. To me at least it is just really relatable. Bit late to getting to watch this one but i’m enjoying it and the monthly video poll is a good integration for Patreon subs. Cheers James and take care

Appreciate it! Nice to know my experiences can be useful for sure. And yeah, love a bit of nostalgia, that’ll be a fun one when it eventually wins a poll

Thank you for your wisdom, James! Very interesting to hear how your thoughts on these things have changed in the last few years. I must though, after reading the third topic in the poll, it was the only option for me. I'd always rather take on board lessons I can learn from someone else's experiences over a console comparison or anything of the like. In saying that though, I would like to see the nostalgia video at some stage just because I think it'd be a fun one
