The Wasted Potential of Watch_Dogs | 10 Years Later (Retrospective)

Well folks... I have another video for you! I said I might do this and ended up saying fuck it and just doing it anyway.

I wanted to do something different with this, to challenge myself to write more concisely, to be more precise with my words without losing any depth or substance and I think I achieved that. I'm pretty proud with how this turned out. This isn't me saying I'm going to make every video like this, I'm not, because I enjoy indulging in the process and making things that are longer and more personable, but sometimes creating something snappy and to the point like this is satisfying. And hey, if this is how fast I can write up and edit something I'm happy with, then maybe I'll end up making more videos a year... Hopefully.

As Always there will be a Patreon exclusive video for you all once this one goes live on YT, and that'll be on the DLC for the first Watch Dogs, Bad Blood. I'd never played it before so writing about it should be fun (I'm about half way through the DLC now). The only other thing stopping me from putting this out on YT for a bit is an ad deal I've got that I need to put together and edit in once I get the full brief from the company, so for now, I'll leave the video here for you gamers which is a pretty early, early access.

Also, this video is only in 1440p because processing my videos to 4K on my patreon channel takes days, and I feel like 1440p for early access is decent and allows me to be snappy! It'll be on the main channel in 4K once it goes up on YT.

As for other stuff, I am still planning to make the Cyberpunk video and the other script I've been holding onto (once the weather is a tad better so I can film some stuff outdoors), but with the announcement of KCD 2, I'm toying with just jumping on a retrospective for the first KCD first... I'll keep thinking on it but both Cyberpunk & KCD will be this year regardless of which order I do them in.

Anyway, thanks for the support gamers, truly means the world, hope you enjoy the video!

Love to hear it! I love going back to old things with a new mindset, you often find flaws you never noticed before, as well as nuanced that went completely over your head, it's a really fun process. Thanks for the kind words!

These videos never fail to make me want to revisit old games, see how my opinions have changed and developed, as well as encourage me to be more analytical in all media I consume. great job man!

For sure for sure, definitely agree. As for Aiden as an Assassin, I agree with you, but that’s why I say he’s “one step away” over the game he learns to team up with Tbone and Clara, and in Bad Blood we see him a lot more open to having allies in his calls. I think over time he’d probably be good Assassin candidate, almost similar to Edward in a lot of ways.

First off, this was an amazing watch. I agree wholeheartedly on the wasted potential that this series had. I remember playing AC1, and loved how eerie and depressing the modern day felt. Fast forward to Revelation when Desmond describes New York City (I believe) and just picturing it in my mind as the same depressing society. While AC3 is a pretty poor game for me overall, the modern day section where Desmond is climbing the skyscraper was so fun and made me crave a modern day setting. Now Watch Dogs is by no means perfect, but it captured that modern day feel of dark and depressing so well to me. I loved the themes that it brought up on new technology and corporations, which can be related to events such as the TikTok ban, FaceBook's methods of obtaining data, and much more. I never understood how Ubisoft kept calling Watch Dogs an Easter Egg when Aiden killing Olivier shows up in Origins as well. It should have been a spin off from the get go. Watch Dogs 2 just made me sad that I would never get to follow up on Aiden, and a potential of a properly expanded Watch Dogs with Aiden. There was no cohesion in each project. I will say however that the Aiden Pearce DLC in Legion is well done relatively, as it explores his mind even further. Thank you for making this video! And thanks for reading! P.S Aiden would be to self centered to be an Assassin
