I love the Beatles music, despite John Lennon being a self-admitted piece of shit. At some point the art goes beyond the artist once it gets big enough. Is Sandman big enough? I don't know. However, if you want an alternative, Alan Moore is always solid and better than Gaiman as a person and a writer in my opinion.

I keep telling myself that other artists collaborated on that, so it shouldn’t be burned outright. Gaiman being monstrous doesn’t devalue their work… I think?

I believe they do it because everyone hates them, and, to some extent, they hate themselves.
