One of the resorts we stayed at was the Hale Koa military resort, where the family attended a very patriotic luau and had an opportunity to teach our daughter about striking workers.

I’m a couple of years older than you, Francis. I went to Hawaii when I was 8 or 9, and I’d almost forgotten the luau until you described yours! *It hasn’t changed much!* There were dancers, there was a very charismatic Lead Dude who did coconut tricks with a machete, there were piles of food that my picky ass didn’t appreciate. Ours had a firewalk at the end though!
