Deadliest Warrior: Gladiator vs Apache Warrior
Added 2024-02-26 12:59:59 +0000 UTCOnce upon a time there was an incredible show called Deadliest Warrior which took stoned conversations guys had in the mid aughts about who would win a fight and put it to some of the goofiest tests you've ever seen. Francis is joined by KD to talk about the Gladiator vs Apache Warrior

A gladiator vs an apache warrior is like putting a UFC guy up against a Vietcong guerrilla. The gladiators weren't soldiers they were performers. Also for ranged rhe gladiators could've probably had javelins or pila. The Romans had bows but that was mostly for Auxillia troops and still wasn't a super common thing in the arena. Javelins and pila are more Roman. But also also Apache eventually had guns so...

They certainly could have had steel weapons for gladiators. Poking at the history of iron production lightly, it seems likely that gladiators would have had steel swords, even if not as consistently good as we can make them today. (There are some fencing texts from the Renaissance that suggest beating your sword on a rock a bunch to be sure it won’t break on you in combat, for example.)

Of course, I'm thinking more of the BudK knife guys; the knife guys who are really into throwing knives, and can't just say they like it as a hobby, and have to justify the "practical use" of their throwing knives; and the kinds of guys who will argue about minor differences in knives that absolutely need for self defense, and how if you don't use their knife of choice, you'll be dead in the streets. May also sprinkle in something about how fighting with a knife is more "honorable" too. To steal a bit from Lions, heavy overlap with snake/reptile guys, and these guys either have ponytails, or shave their heads, no other hairstyles.
