Subtle Performance Workflow Pt.1
Added 2023-10-20 21:49:21 +0000 UTCThis is part one of how I might tackle a subtle performance shot.
It's important that before you even dive into maya, you already have a plan in mind of where you want your character to go (emotionally/mentally) and what the resolve/resolution is for the shot. Does your character go through any emotional change? What are some of the thought processes that lead from emotion A to emotion B?
Make sure there's enough time for each beat to read and simplify your choices as needed to create enough "pause" for your character to think.
If you have some big subtext ideas that your character goes through for a shot, even better. Try not to rely on the audio carry the performance. What is your character not saying that you could convey with their expressions?
There are so many ways you can tackle one shot especially in a subtle acting shot because there's so much nuance and subtlety that you can embed into the performance.
The more you understand what your character is going through in his/her head, more options you'll have to sell an idea.

Awesome ! It makes so much sense on this type of shot to start with the neck as the cog for the head, then to do the head et after that connecting everything. Thanks Shawn ! See you guys this Sunday for our critique session ! :D
