Creator Commentary: How Chandler Halderson Didn't Come Close To Getting Away With Murder [+ Update]

Another Creator Commentary to tie you over! A bit of a fan favorite, and my 2nd fav of ‘22, so I hope you enjoy my thoughts on and around it 🙂

UPDATE: [Full Black Screen Update at 1:07:35]

Next vid will be on the Todd Kendhammer case. I’m certainly not the first creator to do a vid on it (almost always true!) but tbh, I hadn’t heard about it before picking it up, so I have to assume it will be new to a few of you. Either way, an interesting case, and I think it’s panning out to be a good vid. I’m aiming to have it up on Patreon by the end of November, and will let you know in advance if anything changes but, fingers crossed, I seem to be going at a decent pace right now!

I’m also going to try and get out an exclusive Xmas Patreon vid about a case I’ve never talked about before (Not actually Xmas themed). Basically the addendum format, but with a fresh subject. I hope you enjoy that when it comes too!

Thanks so much as always for your patience and support!

Ooh, Todd Kendhammer will be a fun one. I would be interested in seeing you do one on - Kelli Lane, who I fully believe chucked her newborn daughter off a bridge -Madison McDonald, who really needs a video that holds her over the coals and breaks down how bullshit her insanity claims are because just showing her interview isn’t enough for the people - A remaster of your video on Justin Ross Harris, or perhaps combo of him and Christopher Scholtes, a guy who left his toddler in the Arizona heat for three hours straight so he could jack off.

if i was a make a wish child i would request to hang out with you and dave for a day. too bad im an adult and also never going to die

Didn’t know that ads dictate when you put them in your videos. Thanks for refusing to take the ones that want them placed in the middle!

I understand the number of interesting Christmas-themed True Crime cases is very finite, but maybe there's room to shift to something like Halloween releases?

33:30 maybe my least favorite part of Kiwi English is they usually call French press coffee "Plunger Coffee". And, sure, it is made with a plunger device, but that is not the first thing I think of when I hear "plunger", and THAT association I do not want with my beverage. At all.

Jonathan Gill

What?!??? Please give me a name so I can look this up!

I know I have mentioned this but you need to watch the 80’s courtroom dramedy with Judd Nelson, “From The Hip”. In this flick, the attorney has a similarly no-win type of case, in which he uses the potential for reasonable doubt by suggesting the murder victim would walk through the courtroom doors, called as a surprise witness. MORE HAPPENS, that I will not spoil for you, but if you need stock footage: this is ideal…. For many many of your needs. First time listening to a commentary and I’m pleased to learn I’ve been missing out and will now devour the rest! Can’t wait for the non-Christmas release. I would listen to you “just talk” through a case you find interesting, for sure!

YESwayTED 024

The murders were done to protect his self-image. So his girlfriend is the last person he would tell because also confessing to fake life.

Steve

Your points about perfect murder reminds me of a case that I recently learned about. A husband was convicted of killing his wife in a clumsy fire. That caused people to realize he had tried to kill her a few weeks earlier with a brilliant scene. He put a giant rat in the glove box and then called his wife on the highway saying the pharmacy had a question about pills in box….She survived but otherwise perfect.

Steve

The Kendhammer case is a great choice. I remember seeing it covered several times a few years ago but not recently. As I recall, it’s an evidentiary mystery in the way of Robert Farquharson.

Steve

I think that is a Yeti; when the detective is asking about the amount of Bart's blood gushing down his leg, he mentions comparing a water bottle lid (or something) with a 'Yeti lid'. Good circumstantial evidence that was a Yeti imo 😁

Claire

Matt you're the best in the business, what an incredibly succinct yet entertaining commentary. Truly brilliant summation of truly brilliant work. However, while we're discussing variability in pronunciation of words like "Speith"...."Su-boo-ru?"- an admittedly fanatical Subaru person.

Bryan

aw don’t ax the christmas special tradition! i do get your reasoning though

marrow

Oh man, I have been waiting for this one since the very first creator commentary you did. I know this is going to be exceptional.

caleb

The only edit I would have made is when Brown is speaking about Chandler not being seen in the neck brace after 1 July, he might have finished the sentence off with "including, as you can see, here today in court at his trial, ladies and gentlemen."

Claire

Brown's opening had me googling to see if he was married lmao; I love the brains of lawyers so much.

Claire

So with the French press, are you making an espresso with it or does it make straight black coffee?

Claire

Yeah, I don’t have any *major* issues with the player here BUT if given the option to click to an unlisted youtube link instead I’d prefer that every time.

Warren Commission Test Skull

“Speith” should rhyme with “Keith”, hypothetically if it were a real name.

SHAUN BAILEY

Sorry to comment again — Rottweiler Investigations on yt published the original interrogation video from a FOIA request a year or two ago. After the detectives confront him, he asks for a lawyer and that’s why it ends. In court, they cut that part out since asking for a lawyer can’t be held against someone under the US fifth amendment but is likely to be prejudicial to a jury, especially when the suspect requests a lawyer in response to a confrontation after speaking quite happily for two hours prior.

One of the most recent threads in r/chandlerhalderson is an AMA from a guy who went to high school with him and was in the same Boy Scouts troop. He’s just a normal guy so he’ll probably continue answering any questions that come in even though the thread is from a few days ago. If anyone is interested.

m. kai duffey

Love the content but the Patreon video player is cancer. Would love another option to watch these.

Nick Cottini

youtube would probably censor all the dick references

yessssssss I can't wait to watch this video, I cannot get enough of the Chandler Halderson case. Nor can I get enough of the Todd Kendhammer case. that case honestly mystifies me. if there's wasn't so much evidence against him, or even if there was just one really compelling piece of evidence in his favor, I honestly don't think I could have found him guilty because he and his wife seemed SO genuinely happy, and there seemed to be zero motive whatsoever for him to have killed her. and that bothers me, because if anything that case should probably remind us that you can bury your domestic problems so deeply that no one, absolutely no one, knows they exist. can't wait to hear your commentary. happy Halloween!

AR

I don't think I know the Kendhammer case. Looking forward to it (that feels odd to say, but you all know what I mean!)

PityTheHateful

I have a master's in computer science so you can consider me an expert, computers in general are lying cheating bastards that you can't trust as far as you can throw them. Your honor, I rest my case

cool_ranch

I think Chandler chose the name "Speith" because of professional golfer Jordan Speith.

The Internet's #1 Herbert Hoover Stan

Excited for the Kendhammer case! I had thought for sure the “old-hat” Wisco case you were cooking up would be Mark Jensen

Miranda B

Incorrect AI captioning is a middle finger to the hard of hearing so thank you for doing them right.

Hey Matt I don’t know it it’s got a lot of material to cover a whole video but one for you list is Charles Bothwell IV. He got confronted on live tv about his missing child being found in his basement

Fletcher Henery

Another upload, another step closer to the inevitable Scott Peterson commentary

Don't worry about it

I was watching friend of the channel True Crime Loser who mentioned that Crystal Vera raised her face to the ceiling and shouted "bullshit!" while speaking to the jury. Did she really do that lol.

Claire

You were on the debate team in school weren't you Matt 😆

Claire

Oh and I have two case suggestions for the future, because of how bonkers the stories and trials seem to be : the murder of Kristil Krug, and the Nick Kassotis trial. Others have covered them but I reckon they could be done better with the MOCAS treatment. But that's just me backseat YouTubering, so feel free to ignore me.

Alan Holding

Such an astute comment and I am always surprised that there is no "nuance" in the N v N "debate" but I suspect it is coming because the academic paradigm leaves far too much out of the equation.

J D

Thanks for the morning treat (well, it's morning here in France). The name Todd Kendhammer doesn't ring a bell, but I won't look it up just to make the video extra special whenever you post it. Thanks Matt!

Alan Holding

Re nature vs. nurture debate, I think far too many people see adult behavior as being one of those two factors and nothing else. But by the time you're a grown-up, there are a LOT of other influences on you, besides your genes or your upbringing! If it were just "the way he was" genetically, his brother would also have shared that, so your argument fails there; but it succeeds if you look at them and assume that the differences lie in something else altogether. Experiences outside the home, for example. Brain chemistry that's not genetically caused, but triggered by circumstance. A lot of options that can affect one person but not another, over twenty years of existence.

Naomi Rivkis

The Judge said Todd was 'a destroyer of worlds'. Cant wait to see what you say Matt. Thank you for all your hard work from Bonnie Scotland!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Geraldine Kelly

Cheers, but the script would need to be about fully wrapped at this point for me to have any shot at the 17th!

Matt Orchard

You mean that it was a parent chasing up his son's lies? I'd guess no. I can say as a former CS rep, all the calls become a bit of a blur, and you don't tend to analyze what might be behind any given one of them...not that 99% of them are likely to be anything interesting. Sometimes it's obvious the speaker isn't actually the account holder, but if they can say the magic words (Full name, DOB, etc) your hands are clean, and it's not like it's almost ever anything sinister.

Matt Orchard

For those who haven’t heard about Todd, you are in for a …well, let’s just say’s he’s no treat. Matt is though, so I’m sure his take will be brilliant. Matt, do you have a lot of Americans? I think Thanksgiving is the 17th (someone will correct me if I’m wrong) so you might want to take that date into consideration. If it’s visual, it might be hard to watch although listening to podcasts for long stints in the kitchen is always nice. Anyway, it’s late here so I’ll listen to your new Halderson commentary while I’m paining my bathroom tomorrow. Perfect timing.

Ann Silberman

Yay!

Claire

Do you think the call handler realised what was happening during the call? It’s so hard to listen to 💔

Sharon Straker

I also have never heard of the Todd Kendhammer case. I suppose the name sounds a little familiar, but I couldn't tell you why. I'm excited to see you cover one I'm new to!

Mel T.

Can't wait for this one happy Halloween Matt

Tianna C

Legend!

Reiken Kayzer

What a legend! Thank you for all you do 🙏
