I really, really like this one, and I've had a bunch of people ask me for another out of the box one along the lines of Anthony Weiner or what have you recently. This is very different from that or any other video I've made really, but I'm hoping it will still be a treat for those that like the scandalous saga type stories. No one did scandalous saga like Mayor Ford!

SOFT SPOILER/NOTE: The C-Word will be censored in the public release (possibly among other things). I was thinking of censoring it in the Patreon release also, because I know some people HATE the word. This is very interesting contrast to your other scandal videos. It seems there is an inverse physical attractiveness to scandal survival effect in these cases. Ted Haggardy and John Edwards were good looking men, and people smelled the shellac in their hair. Anthony Weiner was a little funny looking, and he almost survived if he hadn't kept screwing up, and Rob Ford is quite hideous and survived everything. People didn't feel they were being sleezed. Or maybe people just don't like lechers. Maybe if he was still alive today, he would have stopped Trump from securing eternal liberal hegemony. But for whatever reason, God is never kind to conservatives who aren't lazy grifters.

Please feel free to do as many of these outside of the box videos as you want. I laughed out loud multiple times and you have a goddamn talent with words, sarcasms and using dry humor in a perfect blend that just gets better and better. Even the heavily saturated Sarah Boone topic you brought a magic to it I didn’t thing is possible. Keep it fucking going and always take your time so you’re releasing this level work no matter how much we all whine that we want videos sooner. The fact you aren’t getting at least a million views a video is a travesty but I try and turn people to your channel any chance I get. Don’t worry you’ve given us PLENTY TO EAT with your other videos that I always find new gems in during my second watch.

I don’t think politicians should be high while doing their job but it’s more common than not to use drugs and politicians are out of touch with the people they serve. There’s a reason drug use is so common and instead of helping people the politicians lock people up.

Just wanted to say, I actually love you left the C bombs in the Patreon release. Being British, it's not a word we find nearly as insulting as our cousins across the pond, but sometimes, modified language lessens artistic vision, especially when conveying your clear distaste for politicians. I'm all for the Patreon videos having a little extra spice. Well done, sir.

I don't know if it's a case you have any interest in or any thoughts on, but my mom is OBSESSED with the Karen Read trial. I listened to a podcast about it, agreed the cops mishandled a lot, but I'm still pretty baffled by how deeply committed Read's supporters are, no matter how many times my mom rants to me about the Solo cups. I've been waiting for an analysis or (after it's resolved) a post-mortem of the case by someone who could disentangle the cultural phenomena -- my mom runs in center-right online niches that don't come up on my radar. Anyway, it's a topic I think you might handle well if you ever had an angle on it! Thanks for the great videos :-)

And honestly, I almost prefer this style of video to your more JCS inspired videos. This is a fascinating story about someone who truly seemed to be a man of the people. I get why you're opting to censor the use of the C-word for the official release, but that word was used in a pretty solid frame in the actual video is you ask me.

I had never heard of Ford, although, I might have come across the "more than enough to eat at home" comment when it happened. Half way through, I kept thinking when does it turn sour. The worst they could come up with was that he had smoked weed in college. Then along came the most openly corrupt candidate that our land had ever seen. And despite his overt greed, sexism, racism, homophobia, mocking the disabled, putting children in cages, inciting an insurrection and having a long list of criminal convictions we elected him twice. What I wouldn’t give for a morbidly obese crack smoking alcoholic hero right now. Seriously though, great video Matt!

I went in thinking it might just be a little 20 minute number, because the only two major beats I was keenly aware of were "drunken stupors" and "more than enough to eat at home", then when I started to really get my head around the timeline and associated material it became apparent how much more was going on on the ground at the time!

I think mayors are very similar, they are never off the clock and held to a personal standard greater than that of the community they serve. These leaders in communities are a huge source of fascinating lore. I have one minor example from my lengthy travels around Australia. I arrived in Port Augusta, South Australia, late in the afternoon and needed a place to stay that night. The only place that had a vacancy (this is beginning to sound like the start of a true crime story lol) was an old rooming house that only backpackers really stayed at anymore and it was cheap. The lady in her 70s that ran the place told me not to close one specific door in the house as she wouldn't be able to get back in. Then she left on foot to do I don't know what. About an hour later she came and told me I had left that door locked and she'd had to climb the 9 ft gate to get in. She wasn't mad though, just wanted to update me. She got about in this long black and red leather cape and knee high boots, she was a bit of an odd lady but extremely friendly. The next morning after I left I was fuelling up my car and I saw a picture of this woman in the servo with the servo owner presenting him with a community award and I look at the caption and the woman is the fucking mayor of Port Augusta. Her name was Joy Baluch and she served the people of PA for 29 years, which is believed to be an Australian mayoral record. She was a campaigner for health and environmental causes and she was still the serving mayor when she died of breast cancer aged 80. And I made that excellent woman climb a massive gate to get into her own house smh. Here is a lovely sculpture the people of Port Augusta raised funds for to commission in her honour - this is not a wealthy town by any stretch but they loved her so. https://www.portaugusta.sa.gov.au/attractions/mayoralstatue Community leaders are special people.
