TERRIFYING LOVE: The Sarah Boone Case

Enjoy your early premiere VIPs! Thanks so much again for your patience.
Looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts on this one. I know it’s a case a lot of you are fascinated with, and I went in only really knowing the 101s, so I’ll be curious to see if die-hards think I got the right “take” beyond what’s pretty self-evident.
My man another fantastic video.
I’ll admit I waited on it because I’ve seen so much on this case FOR YEARS and just was burnt out on it and didn’t think there was much else to say. Plus if I had to hear “not intentionally” in one more video about her I thought I’d pull my hair out.
But your brand of sarcasm made it my favorite video on the topic.
You actually covered something a lot of people I don’t see cover and that was Sarah’s abuse of George. I genuinely had no idea about that until you started playing some of the videos she took herself while drunk and actively verbally abusing him. I’m not excusing his own abuse with her (although I do think a lot of the physical wasn’t him and was her falling being so drunk) but I thought it was an excellent use of time for you to analyze.
This case didn’t just happen in a vacuum in this one moment of drunken stupidity. This was a vile woman looking for control and the feeling of superiority over someone who she could blame put her shitty behavior on and you conveyed that very well.
Whether you do high profile cases or out of the box ones I love them all keep them intentionally coming.

I did see it in the news and my curiosity was certainly peaked by it - maybe not next vid but I'll be giving it a look for sure.

I would love to see you do a video on Benjamin Eliot (Sleepwalking Twin) The case has a ton of online discussion but I have not seen any big YouTubers do any videos on either side of the case. It sorta reminds me of Micheal Peterson where it appears pretty clear that he is guilty. Still, there is a lot of evidence that muddies the waters such as multiple people in and outside of his family testifying to sleepwalking behaviors. I still think he's probably guilty but the defense puts on a damm good show and, shockingly, even his sister's friends didn't testify against him. I think the biggest factor for guilt for a lot of people is how he acts. But it may be due to having the flat affect common with autism.

I think it was pretty clear there was at least some abuse on his part. Just cause she is an egomaniac doesn't mean at least part of her story wasn't true. There is a reason she was given a very generous deal.

I watched the entire trial on YouTube and predictably the jury didn’t take very long .

Her weird sentence structure always annoys me to no end. Remembering that you were a straight a student at her age, let alone telling people as if your academic history is relevant in any situation, always struck me as some weird defense mechanism. “You can’t think I’m as stupid as I think I am if I tell you, ‘I got straight A’s’ 25 years ago.” Set aside the murder, alcoholism, general shittiness, she’s not very bright, and desperately needs to pretend as though she is. It’s difficult not to pity her, I somehow managed it though. I got a lot of help from her in that regard.

I’ve thought about this case for a while, since the circumstances are quite unique. Despite how insufferable Sarah Boone really truly is, some part of me does feel bad for her in the grand scheme of things. At some point in Sarah’s life she felt the dread of not living up to her potential, and she became dependent on alcohol and this narrative of her unrealized intelligence. As alcoholism continued to degrade her ability to think, her days became a blur and her sadness turned to rage. I assume her husband divorced her, and she got into a relationship with another abusive alcoholic. By the time her own abusive behavior becomes murder, she’s in such a drunken haze that she doesn’t even remember taking the videos of him, or pushing the suitcase down the stairs.
I hope Sarah is able to sober up in prison, even if she remains insufferable. My point is “alcohol dependency” as a mental illness is under-stated in this trial, but I don’t think it should change the sentencing much. Sarah wasn’t just drunk when she committed the crime, she was drunk all the fucking time.

For some reason that bottom shelf Chardonnay line really got to me. Now I have to go buy a bottle of my favorite stuff just to have at my house, just in case anyone has to come in to find my bloated corpse one day.

I’m a Boone-obsessed weirdo and you hit all the high points Matt, and got them correct.
She was never an abused woman, her leg wound was from a broken bottle, Jorge hitting the TV was requested by her, he was hesitant and a tarp was put down, and there many people who came forth and said Jorge had no history of violence previously. Absolutely, their relationship was toxic but she was the problem. She was the abuser as we could clearly see in the videos on her phone, and while Mr. Jay didn’t outright say it, it became evident.
She’s still abusing her husband from her prison cell and to a lesser extent her son. They have a family case scheduled for April and we hope Brian won’t have to pay alimony and will be get sole custody so the poor kid doesn’t have to deal with her unless he wants. Maybe some of those things can be expanded upon here if you have interest.
You did a great job! I was very much looking forward to it and you did not disappoint.

The whole “I have to live with this, and that’s punishment enough” always gives me a laugh every time I’ve heard her say it. I don’t know why, it just seems like such a funny thing to say to a cop who is accusing you of murder.

I actually started work on Dan Markel a couple years ago. Think I spent about 2 days on it. It got shelved because it became apparent how much of that was still left to go, as you say. It's still sort of up in the air with all eyes on Wendi, right?

Top notch work as per usual! Your videos are simply the best out there. I had been wondering when Sarah Boone would be tackled. One case which really intrigues me lately is the Dan Markel murder case , which after more than ten years is still ongoing. I’d love it if you were to get interested in it since there are so many colorful characters and mysterious events involved. My favorite videos of your involve unsolved cases with wild theories and this one is full of them. Grisch’s YT channel is one interesting theory channel. Thanks for your work! Excited for your future work!

I've got a lot of respect for James Owens for doing the absolute best he could with such an impossible case. I hope the video came across as more poking fun at the absurdity of the scenario he had to argue rather than him personally. He did subsequently say he urged her to *seriously consider* the deal, but at the end of the day, you've got to go ahead with your clients wishes and play your hand the best you can - something he did to the bitter end.

If someone had no prior context to the case, they'd probably think she was giving a victim impact statement. Which I guess it basically was to her, given how she sees herself as the victim in all of this. Disgusting.

Oh! One more thing…. I’m sorry but:
Having followed this since it was raw body cam footage; I am appalled to just now learn about her literally BATTING Jorge’s hand back inside the unique restraint system.
That is called INTENT.
So….. there goes her argument re unintentionally leaving him *to go upstairs and do the NY Times crossword before dozing off (aka passing out fully clothed on a pile of dirty laundry heaped upon your air mattress).
*ok so I took some creative liberty for levity

ONE GOOD THING CAME OUT OF THIS THOUGH
Thank you for providing the footage she took during their relationship prior to the zip up. If anything SHE was the abuser and that leads me to this:
THANK GOODNESS her son is free! Free from his murderous, manipulative, neglectful, elitist, monster of a mother, whom I’m assuming was verbally abusive (and likely physically, as well). Dad seems amazing and I’m confident their son will thrive without her.

Cheeky Bugger!
I loved the strategic timing and the stock animation used for the ‘Like & Subscribe/Cet Notified” alert.
Was ‘Get’ intentionally misspelled ‘Cet’, by the way?
Sorry, but I had to use ‘intentional’ in an appropriate setting to cleanse my palate for the sake of the word.

She is such an appalling person. her lawyer is kind of a hero, and I really hope he told her what an idiot she was for not taking the deal. 8 more years vs all the years she has left on the earth. What a nightmare. I bet Jorge’s family is a little relieved she didn’t take the deal, so there’s that. Alcoholism is a tragedy.

Yeaaah, I can't imagine you're alone in that. However bad he was (and it really is unclear exactly how bad he was, no one can know precisely how Sarah's injuries came about but him and Sarah) cruelty is still cruelty. No one likes seeing a person put down like that.
Matt Orchard
2025-03-20 07:34:03 +0000 UTC
Russell Williams too! It's not a 100% rule. Casey Anthony will probably be done one day, Chris Watts is also a maybe. Boone was fine because the JCS one came out before the trial stuff, so there was enough material to make this it's own thing, albeit with some overlap.

I'm not saying Jorge was a good guy at all, but that genuine look of heartbrokenness he gave when Sarah went: "I don't love you. I don't like you. I don't want to be with you," oddly got to me. He looked crushed. Whoever said words are powerless...

Great video as always, thoroughly enjoyable. When I started the video, I felt I knew the name Sarah Boone, but chalked it off as being from blackscreen updates and the delay post. Then when the zipping up in the suitcase was mentioned I felt convinced I had heard about this story already. First JCS overlap (if I'm not mistaken). I thought you'd elected to stay clear of covering cases already covered by JCS. I am glad you didn't. Keep it up.

Loved the video! Totally worth the wait!!! I feel that the idea of HER hiding HIM to play hide and seek always gets completely ignored but I really like how you touched on it in this vid! Made me realize that’s it’s not a super important detail when you have everything else anyway. As always, amazing work, thanks for the awesome video!

Probably the most ironic thing about the trial is that Sarah had trouble using the zipper on the suitcase when she proposed Jorge could have gotten out himself. She stands out in the true crime circle for just how utterly remorseless she is. She really put her feet down and refused to take any deal other: take the cuffs off, you're free to go Mrs. Boone.

Even though I’ve watched so many things on Sarah Boone, I’m so happy to get your commentary to wrap it up nicely with a bow. Amazing job, as usual. Thanks for your take on this case. As hard as it is to watch her smug face, this was such a nice & satisfying happy ending to such a miserable wretch of a human. Her speech at the end makes me so stabby.

I think she declined the plea deal because she couldn’t give up all the attention. This lady is such a head case narcissist that for the first time she had thousands of peoples attention and couldn’t let it go. I’m not even sure she thought she could win the trial and is happy to just sit in jail and write more letters and prolong her notoriety as long as possible.
