Creator Commentary: The Predators [+ Kitten!]

Comments

Oh that kitty is lovely, he really likes you, so much purring.

Peta Baipeta

My cat Phillip is my best friend of almost a decade running. He's my rock

Gizmo

I'd love commentary on Darcie Routier and/or Jonbenet!

Captain Panda

There seems to sort of be a new class every year or so as the last group of channels get shut down the more they push the limits of the law. It's pretty astounding Dads Against Predators are still going considering just how brazen their practices have gotten. I guess they're making the most of platforms like Rumble and dodgy gambling site sponsorships.

Matt Orchard

have you ever seen skeeter jean? he is a predator catcher and i've seen a hit piece on him come across my recommended videos kinda just criticizing his methods. i was kinda surprised he managed to fly under the radar for you on this video, you should check him out if youre interested

Haili Devillier

Came for the predator commentary, stayed for the kitten commentary

Big B

Wexler is adorable 😻😻

Katie Hayes

YES!!! Link is in every recent vid description. Patreon exclusive rooms should be unlocked automatically (I dunno how it works) but just DM Miranda or myself if you have issues :)

Matt Orchard

If it's any consolation, you'd have to devote a lot of time to confidence building and being consistently confused by contradictory behavior. That cuteness comes at a price!

Matt Orchard

Now that I watched it I’m just going to say that is one of the prettiest kittens I’ve ever seen. I wish I could have one but my supposedly cat safe dog (greyhound) actually thinks they are snacks. I live vicariously through other cat owners. Wexler is a great name!

Ann Silberman

I was hoping against hope you’d do Boone. No case has captured me like this one, and I know every inch of it: read every letter, every document including the legal case files referenced. I watched every decent video numerous times, raw, body cam and analyzed by psychology creators, by legal creators, even by word analysis creators. I’ve gone down every rabbit hole that could be gone down. All the while thinking, “I wonder what Matt would say?” It’s insane how obsessed I was, to the point I’m still paying attention, to her orison status, what’s happening with her appeal and divorce. Usually when somebody is convicted I’m over it, but this is the crazy person who drew me in. Thank you, it’s going to be amazing. See, I got so interested I haven’t even watched your commentary yet. Sorry. A bit embarrassing isn’t it?

Ann Silberman

I'll try to check some of it out before my commentary/addendum :)

Matt Orchard

it’s going to be a hike to get to my point, but I don’t often see perspectives from someone who has been groomed, and I was. And I want to comment on the “they’re rejected so much that they resort to loving a decoy” point — I agree. So, when I was a teenager I was groomed by a man on Tumblr. I grew up very isolated, so I liked that he was willing to talk to me so often. He never tried to meet me, we lived thousands of miles apart, and also I was smart enough to not let him exploit me toooo much. I never sent him photos, but I got plenty of dick pics. What I’ll say now, as an adult, is yes — I think it’s often about loneliness, at least for non-preferential predators. My groomer was a married man, but his wife had a condition that disallowed sex, and their marriage wasn’t great regardless, and he lived in a rural place in a male dominated industry. He also had kids my age which, gross, but I got the impression he didn’t feel he could leave his situation to find someone to funnel his need for romance and lust. I also think he was not preferential because he never discussed sexualizing other minors, he only talked about being attracted to adult women. I never got the impression that he was inappropriate with his own children. The thing about it though is that giving these men someone to receive their love doesn’t make them a good, normal person. My groomer was not looking for someone to relate to, he was looking for someone to sexualize, and as an adult woman dating adult men — let me tell you, we can see that issue in “normal” men. Men who aren’t predators have an issue with conflating affection with lust, and these people will exploit and abuse the object of their affection regardless of their age. Imo we cannot “solve” this problem — there will always be preferential offenders — but for the non-preferential, the best thing society can do is teach men how to better manage their emotional needs, and enforce that women are equal and feeling humans. I’d find a TV show like TCAP much more “affective” at curbing the issue if they instead addressed men’s mental health, or in some way reframe how men as a “culture” see women. Which isn’t an anditment on all men of course, but as mentioned, female predators are rare, female murderers are rare, etc. There is, I think undeniably, some kind of issue with how men are taught to love. TCAP instead would rather wait until they do something unimaginably stupid instead of addressing any part of the core issues — but teaching men feminism doesn’t make good television.

Marie

If they cross the line, they cross the line. I don’t really care how they got there. A child would be damaged for life no matter what the predators reasons were.

John Orchard

I’ve always felt this way about tcap. Like most of the time I wonder, did you really just stop a horrible predator who was actively seeking children? Or did you just stop a lonely weirdo who did something regrettable out of desperation?

JenkinsJ

I think it's a very insightful point that a lot of those guys are extremely lonely and socially awkward, and that makes them fall for a variation of catfishing by these Youtube sleuths. Their objective probably wasn't to find a child heading into the online space. The Dennis O'Leary video is one of my favorites. I recognize it's not the most ambitious video on the channel, but I think it flows really well. There are enough elements of the crime for it to be a very hooking, engrossing case. Those are some of the elements that make it really satisfying to watch. Maybe it's the best "standard" video you have if that makes sense.

Jonathan Gill

there's a discord??

hoofy

Wexler is a very cute floofball, the purring is adorable. I have 5 cats so I'm the target audience for kitten reveals. As for the predator catchers, it seems that sometimes it's a bit telling that these dudes end up being what they accuse others of being. There was a recent slew of videos about some chud getting caught abusing his step daughter, despite being a very vocal predator hunter on social media. I can't remember which YouTube channel covered it but... yeah. More Wexler videos 🙏

Alan Holding

🎵 you're done bud / we got the chat logs 🎵 this song seriously lives in my head rent-free thanks to you Matt 😊

Claire

I am pumped for the upcoming JBR creator commentary! It's my favourite of your videos and I think my favourite part of the actual video is the ransom letter dramatic read. The Lore Lodge has been posting about JBR lately and also has a dramatic read, to which I felt a bit like I wanted to pull a Kanye ("Imma let you finish but Matt Orchard had the best ransom note dramatic read of ALL TIME") but unlike Kanye I am medicated and so I refrained hehe. I have been wanting to ask if you've encountered the work of author Nick Van Der Leek relating to Jon Benet? He has been publishing a (lengthy) YouTube series on his channel True Crime Rocket Science regarding his personal theory on the case and it is a theory I hadn't ever seen anywhere before, despite being old enough to remember the event itself. Nick has probably a hundred videos in his JBR playlist (he is nothing if not prolific) but his recent video titled 'JonBenet - The Ace of Spades in the autopsy report' provides an introduction. It is part of a 4-episode sub-series using the ace suite of cards analogy and that's the introduction that I'd recommend. If you have already seen his channel on YouTube I'd be interested to know if you had consumed his content for your original video and decided against including it - I only ask because it's a very convincing theory that explains a lot of apparently conflicting information and I seriously hadn't read it anywhere before. I would love your thoughts on his theory if you could see your way clear to addressing it in your commentary. Also Nick is kind of a card, he has a very dry South African wit, talks down to his audience a bit and chides them on their short attention spans. He was a court reporter during the Oscar Pistorius trial. Also he believes the McCanns and Amanda Knox are each guilty! An enjoyable watch if you haven't encountered his work before. The recent JBR Netflix documentary was truly a shocking example of apologia, clearly financed by John Ramsay who seems to be doing a speedrun of interviews in the past 12 months for some reason. Even though I am agnostic I like to imagine JonBenet in heaven being doted on by my mum and all the beautiful mums out there who have also died. Poor little baby. Thanks again Matt. Keep slaying legend!

Claire

She's pleading to protect her children, not him.

Claire

Dude I am so excited to see your take on Sarah Boone. She really is a creature to behold... And there is so much material to work with, from that ridiculous interrogation to THE video. I'm sure you're gonna knock it out of the park. Also yay baby Wexler! 🥰

Mel T.

PS: best wishes to you and your sweet kitty! He's BEAUTIFUL! We rescued a pregnant mama cat hiding in our nanny's garage from the freezing cold, and adopted two of her kittens. It takes a minute but I get the feeling you're a stellar cat-dad, and you will be two peas in a happy pod in no time. 😽🩷

TCAP worked with an organization called "Perverted Justice" (if I'm remembering correctly) that only used adult decoys. PJ started off with public awareness/shaming (sending chat logs to employers, family, neighbors, etc) and posting the chat logs and predator info (as much as they could dig up) on their website. Online predator laws had either not been created or just weren't caught up yet, for the times. PJ had a strict protocol they adhered to, so that their predators could be prosecuted, once the law and their process became more refined. I think, before TCAP, they sent the information and chat logs to local police and left it at that. But once they started working with TCAP, obviously they were able to prosecute a lot of the people they caught. All from using adult decoys. I work in mh and have had clients caught up in stings, using adult decoys, run by the police and these people were absolutely prosecuted. I don't think any of these other predator "catchers" get prosecutions because theyre sloppy and don't follow the protocols set out in order to meet the elements of the crime(s), plus then they can't make the predators call their families or do jumping jacks, which might result in fewer clicks 🙄

Anna Francis Dimka

Yeah, I've heard of lots of people being tried and convicted for attempted murder. I can't name a case where someone's been charged with attempted murder of a person who never existed though.

Matt Orchard

people want to understand serial killers but they don't want to understand predators. I think people would fully support predators being fed to lions in a coliseum. maybe one day our society will get passed the taboo and figure out how to treat/ fix these people. hard to discuss this stuff bc people just think you are/ are defending a predator

cool_ranch

23:00 Convicting people for attempted crimes happens all the time. Attempted murder. They prove intent and what's in someone's mind all the time.

Fay

Yea Rami's anttics/ego always make me too mad and skip that part of the video. I bet you he thinks hes the hero in this story, that there value in this, but the output just serves to get him views at the end of the day.

Kevin Flores

The whole hypothetical 14 year old feels a bit like future crime from Minority Report. Something technically didn’t happen, but judgement falls on the intent and supposed outcome. At least TCAP played a conversation out with an actor indicating they likely would have taken it further. I’ve always thought it would make for a fascinating mystery story for someone to somehow be framed into being on a TCAP style show. There’s this instant dismissal of excuses and demonizing of the person when you think they planned to do something so monstrous.

Evan Monroe

WEXLER! We love you Wexler!! 💖 So happy for you Matt, I hope he settles in a bit more soon. Kittens are definitely a lot more energy and effort, but hopefully the transition hasn't been too hard on you 😄

Bri Cousineau

wexxxx 🥺🥺🥺 he's so itty bitty omgg

cluck buckley

Hey Wexler and yay for Sarah Boone, I did wonder if you’d be tempted, Matt. She is a gift that keeps giving unless you’re in a relationship with her, obviously. As for the Predators, members of the public catching them on social media seems a career choice these days and consumers treat it like paid entertainment. It’s a crime like no other. Given the prevalence of the catching teams everywhere Im surprised that anyone falls for the bait still but I’m glad they do. It might be worth noting that in many of these amateur catches, the catch is talking to multiple contacts who appear to be real children. They can also be in possession of child abuse material on their devices and, thus, be helping to perpetuate the market for such things. Though, I think the questions raised in this one make it one of your best commentaries.

Andy

So the Alex's wife is a good person - I understand shock, father of your child, so completely unexpected etc, but if I got a call from Mr Ticket and he had been caught by vigilantes in a set up like this, I'd be like "yes call the police, if you don't I will". The fact this woman is shocked and disgusted but still tries to protect Alex and wants to sort this out privately is telling of where we still are as a society on these issues. She is being victimised like Alex - Rami is getting his power kick from this and enjoying her pleading, but while I understand it I don't like how the family member they are forced to call (in the examples shown here) plead and try to save the person. I suppose I wouldn't protect the person from Rami because we know family members and friends are more likely to be victims due to access so I would immediately jump to I have to protect my kids/niblings/friend's kids etc.

TinTicket

awwwww wexler omg 🥺💖

Lali 🌸 la chonga

Both of us just have assumptions, and they both have a decent logic to them. It's an interesting niche law question!

Matt Orchard

Wex is fucking adorable bro

James Higgins

Looking forward to hearing your take on Sarah « not intentional » Boone! Congrats on the new kitten, what a cutie.

Elisa Villou

@23:09 I think one of the main things is catching them when they're arriving somewhere with the intent to commit a crime. The combination of incriminating chat logs and their presence in an area that they believe they're going to meet a minor is enough to at least have a predator arrested, regardless of who's actually waiting at the location.

Cosmo Reverb

Also welcome Wee Wexler 🐈‍⬛

Claire

Yay! My kid has just fallen asleep and I have a Cornetto in the freezer. Thanks Matt.
