He Who Defends Himself: The Legal Manoeuvres of Trevor Summers [Early Premiere]

Enjoy your early premiere, VIPs! Thanks as always for the support.

Interested in feedback for this one as it's a bit different from the usual. Second time the channel has done a trial guide through, but it's a much smaller scale case than Chauvin. I tried to strike the right balance between pacing and conveying what was actually happening. Leave your thoughts below or in the Patreon discord :).

Thanks so much for your words and support Lloyd, really appreciate it!

Thank you, Matt! I discovered your channel after thinking it was another average true crime channel. Truly impressive writing. I don’t know what it is but kiwi content creators are the best. A brief illness has kept me bed-ridden all Easter weekend. Your channel has served as an amazing distraction, passing the time brilliantly! Hearing “The King of Oklahoma” by Michael Franks in one of your videos, cemented my need to finally support you via patreon. I don’t compare your content to JCS, you’ve upped the game for true crime content creators alike. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

Rome wasn't built in a day! But thanks for the heads up appreciate it.

Rob

Aiming to have it up by the 20th...which will be a bit of a push tbh, but def around then.

Matt Orchard

Craving the December video. Is it just me?

Rob

A bit late to watching this one but as always, amazing video! I can’t wait to see the next one

Only 41 minutes though this video and all I’m wanting is more commentary from Matt. But having seen all his videos I know it’s coming and is going to be great. Like JCS, when you’re this good all your fans want is more. As someone familiar with production, I know how much time and effort are put into these videos. An insane amount. Thanks for all you do.

I am impressed with Alisa, that’s a true survivor personality. The guy had zero insight of how he was coming across with those “got you” questions. Pathetic, but less annoying than Darrel brooks for sure. Great video!

Bravo! Excellent work as always, Matt!

(Sorry for screwing up the formatting). Brooks also represented himself and, frankly, made Somers look like Rumpole of the Bailey. Not only was he an arrogant narcissist, as most of these pro se’s are, he also engaged in the whole “Sovereign Citizen” twaddle and spent most of his time demanding the court prove “subject matter jurisdiction” and other meaningless nonsense. Thankfully the prosecution had such a watertight caseagainst him that they were able to limit the amount of victims who needed to testify and face him in court so he was mostly cross examining police officers and other professionals, whose glacial politeness towards him said it all. He was found guilty on all 76 counts of course & will be sentenced this coming Tuesday. Unfortunately, due to Somers and Brooks, I suspect we’ll see more of these self- representers making a spectacle of themselves to a YouTube audience (which will include me) and it’s difficult to know what the courts can actually do about it.

(Sorry…pressed post too soon on my above comment!). More recently, I’ve been watching the Darrell Brook’s trial…the despicable individual who ploughed his SUV through a Christmas parade in Waukasha last year and directly hit over 60 people, killing 6 of them.

Donna McCann

Fascinating - thank you. I watched a tiny bit of the trial as it was happening so it’s been intriguing to see it fleshed out like this.

Donna McCann

Matt, hit me up again, I'll see if I can facilitate this somehow.

JJ

Thank you for your persistence and your honesty Matt.

Wow Matt - that was such a good video. One of your best I would say - interesting story, interesting concept (Someone representing themselves), good research, and very well presented. It was super interesting and got my attention the whole 1:26:18. Great ending as well. I personally liked the topic about someone representing themselves and perhaps an idea for another video could be the same format, of someone who represented themselves and completely lost their case - and make a comparaison on how he could have won the case completely with the help of a lawyer. Keep on the good work - well done!

Dom

Thanks. You can watch his closing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM-m-0qCvPI The vid definitely could have shown a a condensed version of it with a few notes possibly. IMO It doesn't make his defense any more compelling, nor is it significantly worse than what he was putting forward via his cross - i.e. it's non-essential. So for stylistic purposes I thought it was best to unpack the case using only Alisa's direct and cross with the sort of abrupt wrap up.

Matt Orchard

No - that material is still a work in progress and the situation is pretty much the same as when I first disclosed that was going on: Not even a guarantee we'll get it, the powers that be have not given any indication they intend to withhold it, but seem to be dragging their feet. Presuming that video gets made, it will be next year.

Matt Orchard

Haven't had time to watch yet so apologies if this has been answered. Is this the one that was waiting on FOIA material?

Daniel Huslig

Great one, Matt. I thought it was so effective to show her testimony, to let her say in her own words what happened to her. We don’t see that often on other channels.

Samantha W

Great video. Did Summers make a closing argument? If so, I would have liked to see some clips of that, to get a sense of what his general theory of the case was, and to see how a layman handles that aspect of being a trial lawyer.

at what point do people start titleing their videos "(Matt Orchard inspired)" A sea of new channels popping up all "JCS inspired" but you are the only one who truly carries on the legacy. Great production Matt, always love your vids

Spoobini

Closing statement well said Matt

Peter Mather

This is such a clear view of a narcissistic abuser. It’s hell to live with them and hell to leave. Once you leave the abuse doesn’t stop. I’m glad Alisa is in a happy, loving relationship and that her abuser is in prison forever.

ReSearcher

She handled this j-off solidly. Good work, glad no one died.

JJ

Wow what a lunatic, there’s a lot of flaws in the justice system in America and I know this is an exceptional case but there really should be some sort of clause that prevents victims from having to be questioned by their alleged attacker especially when it’s so obviously done out of spite

Christopher

Great storytelling as always! Thoroughly entertaining, disturbing, and a highly satisfactory ending! First time hearing of this case, Good grief what a psycho loser...

Inge Berge

I'm not all the way through it yet, but I'm already excited!!!

Amanda whitten art

I love your breakdowns throughout the video. I was glued to the screen for the entire duration!

Sonne

You have such a knack for ending your videos on such a great note. 👍🏻

Kurt Narten

This channel is too damn good

Bob

I've never wanted to see the wrath of every almighty that may or may not exist come down on a person, as much as I wanted to see it happen to that man during his line of questions involving the pillow. Or his entire cross exam for that matter.

raymond johnson

Could have not have said it better, what a stand up guy Markazi is. He really has no interest or consequence for staying in as "of counsel" for that mess. So far so great, thanks Matt!

JJ

Woohoo thank you Matt! 3am in Missouri but still watching it asap, appreciate all of your hard work 💚
