Your "why is this happening?" while Shinji chokes Asuka is pretty much what comes to my mind every time I think of this show, lol. Hope that some of your research has helped in terms of explaining the technical details. Have you ever heard of the "Sync Ratios" podcast (hosted by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, who are some pretty successful Hollywood screenwriters)? The whole thing is totally dedicated to deconstructing the plot in a very dense, comprehensive, and intelligent way; I think episodes 29 and 30 are about End of Evangelion. You should be able to find it on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. I highly recommend it; it's helped me answer questions about the show that I didn't even know that I had. Looking forward to the Rebuild films. It starts off very similar to the tv show, but then becomes a totally new and crazy thing! Keep up the good work.
