The Fox and the Bird Guitar intro tutorial
Added 2024-01-05 20:00:06 +0000 UTCHey patrons! Martín here. I've been traveling quite a bit the past couple of weeks, currently in Nashville, Tennessee 🤠. Since I'm staying with some family (and we're all quite loud, so recording voiceover would've been near impossible) I thought I'd make a quick no talking tutorial of the intro riff of The Fox and the Bird.
This introduction was in part inspired by Sigur Ros's song Gobbledigook. It influenced the choice in instrumentation, for which we used floor toms, a cowbell, and sticks to add to the existing drum groove. This influence becomes a bit more obvious towards the end of our tune, when the guitars are left with the extra percussion and some synth loop sounds, as well as some breaths that we used as a rhythmic element at the very end.
I often use this technique of taking a song that I like and taking mental notes of what makes me feel a certain way and applying that to my own compositions. In this case the feeling I got from the Sigur Ros tune was one of innocence, playfulness, and some slight nostalgia for the simpler times. This made sense to apply it to the two main characters and a song about the special connection that they have.
If you'd like to get a more in depth tutorial for this song (or any other songs) feel free to let us now in the comments!
Thanks for watching and let us know if you can think of a song that makes you feel some sort of nostalgia. Always love some music recommendations.
