Patreon Voted Review Nominations Open!

Hi everyone,

It's time for the monthly patreon voted review nominations! This month I'm going to be hammering away at trying to get this shmup doc completed ASAP (getting nice and far along in the scripting process) and in the meantime you all can nominate your picks for the patreon voted review. You can nominate pretty much whatever you want, just go ahead and place your nominations in the comments section of this post, and we'll start voting on them on 1/25/24 :-)

Thank you so much for supporting the channel!!

Sincerely,

Mark

Hey playa, I can hook you up with one of my spare arcade sticks :-)

Hey I was wondering if any of you guys could help me find a good stick that’s not too expensive or complicated. (Don’t want to mod anything). I’m currently using laptop keyboard and I’m getting pretty good at it, but think a joystick would be better. I bought this crappy Chinese happ knockoff on eBay thinking it was a real one. The diagonals are terrible. The micro switches on actually had the metal prongs like the Korean sticks but it still sucks. I need something with fluid accuracy on curve/diagonal motions and sensitivity for small shmup motions. I only need the lever as well. I’m using a cheap usb encoder off eBay. I’m playing battle garegga pretty much exclusively. No fighting games.. I watched a couple of Mark’s stick videos but still not really sure what to do because I can only afford to try one.

Thank you for responding and for placing my suggestion as a nomination. Just so you know if you order the Pro model from focus attack it comes with the standard gate for no additional price. I would recommend getting it from there so you can compare the gates.

Oh what a cool comment! That's a cool idea, for me to review a lever, I'll def put it as a nomination option :-)

Agreed. Didn’t know the design came from the Nobi!

It would be like watching a snuff film.

Angel At Dusk! …unless your planning something already for the public… then I’ll second Bushido Blade for the peanut gallery.

This is the same modified octo-square gate profile that the new Seimitsu SELS-70 sticks use. It's the best gate profile out there, IMO.

Although I love your shmup videos, my favorite videos from you are your videos on arcade sticks. I just purchased the Nobi pro lever and I'm in love with it. The stick came out in 2021, but I haven't heard about it until this year. I gave it a try and it feels near perfect. It has a unique octogate that is somewhat of a mix between a square and an octogate. I love the bullet top that comes with it and prefer it over the ball and bat top. The bullet top provides the height and flat surface of a bat, top which makes performing inputs that require multiple single inputs strung together quickly like Korean backdashes and wave dashes in Tekken for example much more comfortable than a ball top. It also has elements of the ball top which I do like, such as the top of the bullet top having a more rounded surface area that gives you more of a surface to grip the top, as opposed to the more narrow surface you get with a traditional bat top. It seems to have the kind of tension you mention in your perfect arcade stick video, where it's light enough to move around without much effort, but it has enough tension so that it returns to neutral quickly. Speaking of which the return to neutral is very good on this stick and it has zero wobble whatsoever when you let go of the stick. I don't get any deflection (opposite inputs) when I hit one direction and let go of the stick quickly. The throw is slightly longer than what I'm used to coming from an LS32 and LS40, but I quickly adjusted to it and I actually like the feel. I feel that due to it being a Japanese stick it would still have a shorter throw than any Korean lever. I'm surprised this stick has barely gotten any attention at all, especially considering the stick was made in a partnership with the professional Tekken player Nobi. This is by far the most well-built stick that I've ever played with. It feels incredibly sturdy and solid and that you can play with it for years to come. I highly recommend you take a look at this stick. Just keep in mind there are two different versions of the Nobi lever The pro and the standard. The pro is the one that I played with and recommend while the standard has a slightly lighter spring and a more traditional square gate.

I feel like this is an interesting one because it got some mainstream attention, although that wasn't all positive. So yeah, I'd like to see this happen as well.
