THE ESPORTS DREAM IS DEAD! PATREON VIDEOCAST!

Hi everyone, this month's electric after dark is a special video cast where I talk about the end of the grassroots esports era for fighting games and arcade games as well as other topics like the end of e3 and the silent death of AA game studios.

Thank you so much for supporting the channel!

Sincerely,

Mark

I would have to agree. Our culture seems to have gotten lazy creatively. Not many have the artistic integrity or appreciation to question or challenge “great” art either. Like Mark had commented in one of his episodes about his discerning critiques on the City Connection, etc., type of ports that lack the quality of something like Live Wire or at best M2 Shottriggers - people think this is being too harsh, when in reality it’s being honest and fair! If you have a standard for quality (let’s say M2) and something like the Psykio ports are dumped on to a bare bones port of a release, how could one not be critical (unless they were unaware of the M2 treatments)? Back in the day when art was considered as a high and impactful part of society (not just mere entertainment) people would riot at a Beethoven string quartet written with new musical language/themes.

Yes exactly wolf, I think the desperation scraping is out of control right now. For example they are REBOOTING Harry Potter right now, like what? The actors for the franchise are literally in their 30's still ha. We're hitting some power rangers levels of franchise short cooking. They are turning over and remaking anything that is remotely possible to remake.

41:59 yes, it just so happens the best player will always be the nicest sweetest person who's just so amazing and kind. What luck! Ha you're right though it's kind of inevitable. To be fair I think the substance of everything is dying, it's like we're in a kind of scraping out of the last drop of monetisation of everything. Also, I feel about 80 per cent sure my comments will not always be this cynical.
