Dude, you are about the same height as me. I am one of those tall guys who towers above most others like a giant lumberjack.

Virtually chilling with Mark in the mountains of Idaho. Sounds relaxing. Excellent idea, hope you do it!

ha no kidding, I'm actually thinking of going to the mountains and doing some kind of podcast or topics vids up there just to be in full frame, as I can't be when in the shmup shed ha XD. Yeah I'm 5 '11 so I can scratch at 6 ft with a nice pair of boots on ha XD

yes exactly ha, if you aren't running sponsors or anything (which I don't) you basically make no money outside of donation as youtube pays like seriously $4 for the stream itself ha.

Had to laugh visualizing the "keebler elves" running around all busy-like. Speaking of height. I realized I've never seen you below the mid and didn't realize you're quite tall (unless everyone else were actual elves).
On a more serious note I'm glad to hear this turned out so well. We're pretty lucky to have someone like you putting in all of this effort. Hardest working dude in shmupbusiness. No joke!

On the later point: People that believe that an event that has 150-ish concurrent viewers on YouTube is making a lot of money don't know too much about this stuff (probably the same kind of people that think that a $100k Kickstarter for a video game is enough to make a game). I'm happy that you made some money, because even break-even is more than I'd expected.

Curious about the point you're making at about 53 minutes in: Could be it decision paralysis? I found that if you have a MAME Setup of 400 games at a party, no one plays because everyone is just discussing what to play. But if you have an Arcade 1up that only has 1-4 games, people will play it all the time (especially if it's a 4 player drop-in and out classic like Gauntlet, Turtles, X-Men - not sure how that translates to Shmups). Of course, it's a space and money issue, having a bunch of machines that are set to one game.

Hey sounds good! and hey no problem at all haha, and yeah it'd be wicked to take part if possible too, I'm playing Operation Steel and Gradius a fair bit lately but who knows what I'll end up pouring my soul into!

Yes absolutely! I think you are right about paying an assistant, I have a friend of mine that might be a good fit :-) also thank you so much for donating and supporting the event, I really appreciate it a lot and it would be really cool to see you in slam 6!

For those of us who show up IRL, could also volunteer to run the steam for set time blocks as well to help out.

Hey Shump Slam 5 was awesome this year and I'm still watching sessions from it too. It does sound like it's become a huge amount of work for you though and you definitely deserve some support with a paid assistant in my opinion. I definitely respect that you're worried about the micropolitics of oh if i'm paying person x why not pay person y and z too, but logistics just isn't fun period you're completely right. On top of that it's just not really fair for anyone to expect you to operate on 3 hours of sleep a night in order to run an event that should be fun for you too. I'd like to have donated more than I did towards the venue but with the next one being a year away I'd certainly be happy to make sure I donate atleast £50 towards you getting an assistant for the next one. Paying someone takes so much of the psychological labour and ambiguity out of having to manage what you might actually need to ask someone to do against what it's actually fair to ask an unpaid volunteer to do as well. That's just my perspective ofcourse, you seem to know what you're doing though. P.S. I'm working on my shmup skills in the hope I might participate in the next one (as well as scouting which game I really want to invest my time in).
P.P.S as always best wishes!
