2021-02-02 23:12:16 +0000 UTCI think the better play is to ensconce STGs more firmly in the retro scene. Even aside from AVGN, Metal Jesus Rocks videos get views in the hundreds of thousands. Game Sack hits around 100k. Even Sega Lord X, who basically has a Saturn-focused channel, gets anywhere between 24k-75k for a video. I don't think there's anything special about Earthworm Jim that should make videos about those games outpace everything in the STG world. These games collectively make up more of the value of retro games than any other genre, so there should be a clear overlap and interest there. If you get someone into the genre, it's a lot easier to get them interested in indie shooters that echo their favourites than trying to push people in that direction cold.

2021-01-30 12:20:07 +0000 UTCProbably makes sense to just go ahead and plan to make a video for every CAVE shmup. Kinda inevitable, right? Food for thought, if the goal is to help shmups grow and invest in the future of the genre, should videos featuring newer games take precedence over the classics? Playing the all time greats in ShmupArch and on retro consoles is a blast but doesn't help put $$ in the hands of indie shmup devs. Definitely a balance to be found between celebrating the old school games and supporting the up and coming.
