I liked that game, though I'm not sure how many others do, lol. But I thought the build-a-giant-ship power up system was cool. It's so far off from current day STG design.

2020-12-25 05:26:42 +0000 UTCI'm going to throw Blazing Star out there. It's generally agreed to be the best STG on the Neo Geo. It has a really unique scoring system with a number of weird hidden elements. It has plenty of unique ships to choose from, and a quirky sense of humour. It also looks, sounds and plays great. It's by former R-Type devs but breaks their mold - it doesn't have checkpoint restarts on death, doesn't power you down on death (at least not that much, anyway) and feels and moves much faster than their traditional fare. It's a really good time and it's not super hard, most of the challenge is in learning the score chaining layouts. It's also available pretty much anywhere thanks to Hamster's ACA. I'd personally rate Mars Matrix and Soldier Blade pretty highly, spent plenty of time with both. Soldier Blade is my #1 go-to STG on the Wii U via Virtual Console, and I even (barely) survived the endless grind to unlock BG Graphic on Dreamcast Mars Matrix. But for me Blazing Star felt like a cut above when I fully discovered it earlier this year.

2020-12-21 02:47:57 +0000 UTCFor me I would love to see either Border Down or Under Defeat, both are classics from G.Rev that I would really be interested in seeing your thoughts about as they are quite a bit different style than what I usually see you play. What I think might be more popular would be anything from the Raiden series. I always hear about how they are one of the most popular shmup series yet I hardly see anything about it.
