You say something about making a "relentless shmup" with no breaks, constant enemy hordes, more fast bullets, pure survival? Bombs do not affect score? DO IT!!! MAKE ONE STAGE TO TEST IT ALL OUT!

We need more on-foot, Guwange style shmups. Can't wait to see it. On the topic of reviews and ads, thats definitely been an issue for many publications, but at least the bigger ones can have separate departments or at least a separate point of contact. I think developers who put ads in places that also do reviews know what the situation is and wouldn't expect special treatment. They should expect critical integrity to be upheld. If you're clear about the possibility of a review when you accept game adverts, I don't think you have to feel bad. Review the game. Treat criticism and ads as entirely separate functions of your work.

Catching up on your podcasts. Great insight into the YouTuber mentality. I've wondered if the constant feedback, both from commenters and analytics, might drive a person nuts. Or dash their creativity.

Coreo's analysis is good.
From the perspective of an indie developer, if I brought you my game with the intention of you reviewing it, then I want to hear the bad with the good too. Blind praise for something with problems isn't going to serve you or your audience, and as long as it's constructive then criticism is valuable for the developer(s) too. It can also show the review is authentic.
I realise not everybody does this, but anyone watching/reading a review should also take into account that it will always be an opinion, and taste can be subjective.

Yes, I was thinking the same! Luckily I have not encountered this yet, but it's something that I have been thinking about possibly happening in the future. So far everyone that has shown me their indie stuff has been really great, so it's been very smooth so far ha.

About reviewing bad indie shmups, maybe make sure you are objective in the beginning. Present the facts first and later highlight what is missing or just bad. Then wrap it up with highlighting the good with the bad. Maybe you could put a spin on it that this game is good for casual players if it lacks the many of the features of more developed game for genre enthusiasts. Or if the game really is a huge pile of dogshit and there's not much good to say, maybe don't bother reviewing it. Not reviewing it can be a dog whistle to us channel viewers that it's not worth our time.
